Emerson “Emi” Blake dropped out of culinary school to care for her ailing mother, but she has bigger dreams than running St. Helena’s most popular pita cart. First on the menu: upgrade to a gourmet food truck. A new part-time job as a personal chef will definitely provide the funds, but it also forces her into close contact with her one and only one-night stand, Dax Baudouin, who’s daring her to … to try a second taste.
Former army Ranger Dax has a clear mission: come home, get healed, and get gone. Yet Emi’s tough-girl exterior and hidden soft side are even harder to resist than her mouthwatering baklava. After years of battles, he knows better than to try and rescue anyone—not that she’ll let him get close enough to try. Truth is, Dax is starting to think that Emi’s the one person who can save him…if he can just persuade her to give him another shot.

Audio Review from 2018
Dax and Emmie!
These two stubborn and sweet people fit like a glove!
I really loved how she fell but told him she needed all of him before going forward.
He fell hard and didn’t know how to handle it.
The way they got over their confusion was brilliant!!
It wasn’t exactly a slow burn but it wasn’t all sex all the time either. I really enjoyed their ebb and flow!
Oh yes! Emi and Dax are perfect for each other. After a one night stand after the wedding of Dax’s brother and Emi’s best friend Emi left in the middle of the night and now Dax is back in town. He is recovering from surgery after an injury sustained in combat and running from demons he really doesn’t want to claim. Emi is struggling to make her way and find the funds to buy her food truck while helping raise her very young sister and help her father move on from her mother’s death. Dax is all kinds of testosterone she doesn’t need but finds at every turn and when he wants to hire her to cook for him it is the answer to her prayers and, at the same time, the bane of her existence. These two have so much chemistry it is off the charts. Will they combust or will they figure it out? Definitely cannot wait to start the next one!
It’s been a long time since I’ve visited St. Helena’s so I figured I was overdue.
Emi is so selfless. She takes care of everyone and everything, putting her own dreams on hold to make sure everyone else is ok. Dax is home recovering from an injury overseas. He doesn’t plan to stay in St. Helena’s but he can’t seem to stay away from Emi.
I love the Baudouins! Dax needed someone to put him in his place and Emi is definitely the woman for the job. These characters reminded me why I enjoy St. Helena’s visits so much!

LOVED IT
Emi Blake has had to make a lot of sacrifices in her life, after finding out her mother had ALS she had to give up her dreams of attending culinary school, to help care for her mother and also help her father take care of her much younger sister. Not wanting to completely give up on her dream she decides to purchase a food truck so she can sell her culinary treats to the residents of St. Helena, and feed her dream of becoming a culinary chef. Her little business is booming, and she is saving her earnings to purchase herself a larger truck which will allow her to enter herself in a culinary cook-off, and hopefully further her culinary dreams! Her best friend lines up a little side job for her that will allow her to get one step closer to her goal, the only problem is the job puts her working for the one man she never thought she’d see again…can these two keep things just business, or will their attraction for one another end up being a little too hot to handle…
After Former Army Ranger Dax Baudouin had to give up his military dreams, due to a sidelining injury, he decides only the comforts of home can help him heal, and readjust to civilian life again, and get him ready to move onto his next life adventure. After being home for a few days he runs into Emi Blake, and begins to think that his hometown may have a little more to offer him than he initially anticipated. And that maybe his steamy one night stand with Emi five months ago, was just a little appetizer…
This was my first visit to St. Helena, and I am totally kicking myself for not making time to read this series until now, I have totally been missing out! I loved this book, from start to finish, Ms. Adair has created some charming and eccentric characters that I fell for as soon as I opened the book! They drew me right in, and held onto my attention until the very end! Definitely planning a return visit very soon!!
Highly recommend you add this book to your reading list and make a visit to St. Helena…you will not be disappointed!!
