Ruthie –
I have read many of Ms. Scott’s books and enjoyed them greatly, so was delighted to get the excuse to read the Ellery Mountain series over the next couple of weeks in the run up to the release of book eight.
Although this is not a long book, there is enough detail that I could give you a good run down on Max and Finn, their backgrounds, families, and what makes them tick. That is impressive given how much action there is, that there is time for a super-hot romance, which moves along at speed, but never in a hurry. Ms. Scott has a style which just binds key information into scenes without it ever being forced. And she definitely has a talent for creating sexy men and describing their encounters (often against counters) with plenty of creative detail.
As well as meeting Max and Finn, we also get to know a little about a couple of other guys who are ripe for romance and their stories to be told. Ellery Mountain is going to be giving up its secrets in future installments and I can’t wait!
Reviewers on the Wicked Reads Review Team were provided a free copy of The Fireman & the Cop (Ellery Mountain #1) by RJ Scott to read and review.
Finn is a cop who lived in Ellery all his life. Max, who moved from the city, is the assistant to the mayor and volunteer fireman in Ellery. Max saves Finn from a fire in the police station and the sparks fly between them. When more things start happening to Finn it looks like someone is targeting him. I really enjoyed this book.
This was a great quick read. The story was well written, funny, had danger and a touch of suspense, and wonderfully written characters.
The new volunteer fireman in town, Max Harrison, ends up running into a burning building on his second day in Ellery to save Finn Ryan, life long resident and cop. They are instantly attracted to each other and start a relationship. A week later Finn is driving down the mountain when his brakes fail and he has to crash his truck. Max helps rescue him again. Finn is beaten and nearly killed by his ex college boyfriend and Max with Daniel save Finn. Finn has a hard time adjusting but they manage to work it out and get their HEA.

Small-town guy-next-door type of romance
The biggest difference between this romance and any other small-town slice of life romance? Author RJ Scott. What might be a fairly commonplace trope is elevated into a class of its own by Scott’s sensitive, realistic and low-drama treatment of this M/M love story. Fireman Max has left the big city FD for a small town, a career segue, and a new life. Meeting heroic cop Finn Ryan gives him a lust rush that morphs into real love, despite small-town drunks and a spate of arson episodes that may be more personal that he thinks. Max and Ryan are real, sympathetic, and likable guys, and truly deserve their HEA.

The storyline was well written and the characters were very likable, believable and engaging! I really enjoyed Max and Finn together, they made a great couple!
Finn is a cop who has been living in Ellery. It is a small town near the mountains where everything is calm and quiet and they have to do is to take care of the drunk of the town.
Max is a fireman who is new in Ellery. He wants a quiet place without stress. However, he has no idea what is lurking in the dark.
I like Fridays meeting with Daniel and Kieran. They are crazy but, at the same time, they are the best friends you can have.
The book is full of intrigue and adventure plus the feelings between Finn and Max,
Although I enjoy the book and like the characters, not just the main ones but the secondary ones also, I think it should have at least two more chapters, one about Finn’s background and the other about Max’s.
Men in uniforms are HOT! Fiinn goes into a fire to save a person in the holding cell. Even though the person was the town drunk, he elected to protect & serve. Max goes into a burning building to save a man left behind. Finn makes a provocative revealing statement as he was being treated in the ambulance. Max accepted the challenge and the potential relationship is on! Very nice story. You can’t help but cheer for Max & Finn. Will they make a go of a relationship in Ellery? Can they find time to have a relationship with their mutual busy schedules? What about the Friday night meetings? Enjoyed the story. RJ has me hooked on the series. I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
Max really did not expect his start in a small town to include rescuing a cop from a collapsing police station- especially when he faced the added bonus of the cop propositioning him and asking about his um hose.
Ah well- smoke inhalation. The cop would likely have little memory of the exchange.
Theirs is a romance that started in fire and ashes. The real bravery is making things work day to day after the flames have died down.
Intense KU psychological thriller and romance!

Story got lots of things going on
Once upon a time, in tiny town where bears sightings are daily occurrences, a Fireman saves a Cop life from a burning building .
The heroes Max and Finn , faced a variety obstacles before finding their HFN .
A lunatic arsonist , few murder attempts, never able to finish a single date , inexplicable shopping trips to grocery store and bad Chinese take out.
Just like this review , the plotline and progression of this book it’s all over the place.
It was an okay story.
For the most part, this is a fun, sexy story about a cop and the new volunteer fireman in town. They hit it off against a back-drop of arson and other threats. I really enjoyed the mostly light-hearted approach, but near the end, it gets a little traumatic with murder and a physical attack, so if you are sensitive, be aware. Otherwise it is a sweet, sexy story, and I loved the Friday get togethers. I liked that Finn didn’t just through his friends over when he found his new love interest. I hope we get to see Daniel and Kieran’s stories later in the series.

Finn ends up in an accident when his breaks fail and he ends up in the ditch. Max talks to Finn and then Finn is cut out of his truck and taken to the hospital so his injuries can be looked at. Someone is targeting Finn and they need to figure out who. Will Finn survive the next attack? Who is targeting Finn? How can Max get through to Finn?

What do you do when you are a hot cop who has a thing for hot firefighters, but there aren’t any to be had? Well, you luck out when one comes to town and happens to save you. Finn wakes up in hospital to a gorgeous hero firefighter and thinks how lucky he is to make it. What he doesn’t realize is that trouble has come to his small town and he is in the middle of it. Falling in love might be more dangerous than he thought. This is a good read. A love story that leaves you rooting for them to find their HEA.

Things are heating up in Ellery Mountain. This is the first of the series and what a great start to a new series by RJ Scott. What can be better than a hot, sexy man in uniform? Only thing better…..TWO hot, sexy, men in uniform. Finn finds himself in a sticky situation when he meets the man of his dreams. Who know that his white knight would be Firefighter Max. He is everything that he has ever wanted in a love interest. He’s tall, blonde, sexy and we won’t even talk about his equipment.
Max finds himself rescuing Finn from a fire and can not help but to be charmed by the sexy police officer that risked his own life to save the town drunk. Sparks fly, passions ignite, and emotions sizzle as this short but action packed book brings joy and entertainment.
Written as a 3rd person, multi POV with a HFN ending. I assume this will be part of at least a 3 book series. We are introduced to Finns 2 best friends and I assume each of them will get their own book as well. I hope that Finn and Max show up in the next books, so we can “keep in touch with them” and see their relationship grow.
Strong story line, awesome characters, fantastic description to detail, lots of sexy hotness. All in all, a great read!
Would I recommend this book? Yes!!
Would I read more from this author? Yes

I enjoyed this book the first time I read it and love the second edition. The author does a fantastic job developing the story and pulling you in with all the emotions as well as the action and danger and what’s hotter than a sexy firefighter and cop? It’s a well written book with strong supporting characters , moves quickly and smoothly and is an entertaining read. I loved this new edition and would recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I absolutely loved this novella. The characters were well developed for the length of this book, and the writing style is smooth and flows nicely.
Max has very recently moved to the small town of Ellery to take a position as the mayor’s assistant as well as a volunteer firefighter. However, his second day in town, he learns that his life is potentially going to be more complicated than he had hoped. He is out, and that is a big part of why he left the big city.
Finn is a cop who grew up in Ellery, and after graduating college and the academy, he moved back home to be a cop. He has been out for years, and has the support of most of the town. When the first crime happens, Max and Finn meet, and it is Insta-attraction on both sides.
The two men explore their attraction fairly quickly, but don’t define what is building between them. When the second crime comes, a definite pattern is discovered. After the denouement, our MCs are on rocky ground, but true love eventually conquers all obstacles, and Finn and Max get their HEA.
Happy reading!

Max is new to Ellery. He rescues Finn from a burning police station and falls for him instantly. They keep dancing around their feelings and in the meantime, someone is coming after Finn. Loved the cheeky ending!!
This fantastic, grab-you-by-the-feels, slow burning, and totally awesome tale may be short in length, but, filled with danger, firebugs, heroism, and passion, I can’t to see what happens next.

When Max runs into a burning building to save those that are trapped he never figured the man he saved would be the man he fell in love with. But when the fire was intentionally set, Max feels the need to save Finn. But will the person who wants Finn dead take the life of Max instead? Or will the two find their HEA once the culprit is caught? I feel in love with these two characters from the opening pages. The story dripped with emotion and you could not help but feel like the other shoe was about to drop. I was locked in so much I had to finish it in one sitting. Cannot wait for more in the series.
Love this!
…..and the whol e Rest of the series!
