My name is Ian Memmer, and I’ve been keeping something from my best friend Summer Quinn for years. I’m in love with her. She breaks my heart over and over, day after day, but I love her. We grew up next door to one another. She’s kind and beautifully broken, and she has no idea how I feel. Because of her depression, and since she never showed any signs she felt the same, I’ve keep silent. … Tormented. Wanting her. Becoming the playboy everyone views. I’m her rock. She needs me. I fear she’s keeping secrets from me, too. Then a passionate moment between us changes everything, gives me hope. Yet the guy she’s been dating wants to take their relationship to the next level. If I don’t make a move soon, I could lose her. But telling her the truth could rip us apart forever.

This book leads from childhood friendships and pain to adults learning their way through life and finding their own strength to find happiness. I really enjoyed this book and the narration matches the writing really well. Very good southern accents.
This book had me shedding some tears and a bit of cussing. Art teacher Summer Quinn has gone through some awful lot in her life. Raised by her father, her mother left when she was young now she has to deal with her past. She was picked on all through school, despite having a small, tight knit group of amazing friends. Her father, who was her whole world, was taken too soon by cancer. Her friends are there for her. Summer has a very hard time with losing her dad and Ian keeps Summer from taking her own life. Summer has feelings for Ian and it is more then friendship type of feelings but, she is in a relationship with Matt. Then she spends a night with Ian and realizes the sparks she felt with Ian, she never felt them with Matt. Matt gives Summer an engagement ring and she tells him about Ian and Matt gives her two weeks to decide what she wants and who she wants. The sex scenes between Summer and Ian were very HOT. If you want to know the whole story, you should buy this book but, have some kleenex handy. I truly loved this book. Awesome book Kelly Moran!!
This is the second book by Kelly Moran that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. And it was a pleasure. Summer’s Road deals with the harsh issues of abandonment and depression but the story isn’t depressing. It will have you riding an emotional roller coaster right along with Summer. She has experienced a lot in her life, but through it all, she’s had her best friends, Ian and Rick, by her side. Now, it looks like Ian is upsetting the balance of their friendship and Summer isn’t sure how to handle that.
While this book wasn’t as upbeat as The Dysfunctional Test it was still entertaining and fun. Even though heavy subjects were dealt with, they were handled in a such a way as to not become overwhelming. Ms Moran is now an author that I’ve put on my “go-to” list.
Summer’s Road is about the path Summer takes in her love life. Ian has been her friend, her rock and her secret admirer. Ian quietly loves Summer and is always there to pick up the pieces during her falls and there to celebrate her triumphs. Summer has paced him in the friend category and never sees Ian as more than that. But when the fine line is crossed, Summer begins to question her feelings for Ian. Although this story is about Summer, Ian is telling his story. My heart broke for Ian. We can all relate to having that friend that you do not want to lose, but we love so dearly. I found myself routing for Ian to tell Summer the truth. This story tugged at all of my heart strings. The love was so real. I wanted to shake Summer and make her realize what she had. I love when a writer can make me get lost in the book and Kelly Moran does just that.
Julie Waters and Gene Branson narrate this story. They make a great team. Ian is an intricate character. Mr. Branson really brings him to life. Through Mr. Branson’s narration, I could feel everything that Ian was feeling or struggling with. Ms. Waters brought out the best and the worst of Summer. This was my first listen to these narrators and I look forward to hearing more from them.
