When Aiden agrees to run the Mad Mucker–a twelve-mile muddy slog over an obstacle course–he’s expecting it to be a bit of a laugh. The training will be tough, but Aiden could use the motivation to regain some fitness. Matt is the sexy cousin of one of Aiden’s coworkers and a last-minute addition to the team. When he agrees to train with Aiden, Aiden suddenly finds the prospect of regular … regular workouts a lot more appealing.
Soon attraction flares, and they embark on an intense physical relationship. Matt doesn’t want to fall in love with a man, and Aiden doesn’t want to fall in love at all, but despite their insistence on no strings, they grow closer. As the day of the race approaches, time is running out for them to work out how they feel about each other.

I loved it!
I always enjoy books by Jay Northcote but the last two I’ve read (Nothing Special and this one, Nothing Ventured) I have absolutely loved! After some badgering by a workmate, Liv, Aiden agrees to participate in a twelve-mile run/obstacle course team challenge.
Aiden is a bit out of shape so Liv gets her cousin Matt to join the team and help whip Aiden into shape. When they meet, Aiden is attracted to Matt’s looks but their first conversational exchange has Aiden backing off and away from flirting with the straight guy.
As they spend more time together Aiden begins to believe that Matt is attracted to him, too. Eventually they give into their mutual desire for each other and begin a no-strings-attached relationship (and boy is it hot!). Neither of them wants anything long-term – or do they?
Wow! I really felt the connection between these two guys. Matt tried hard to fight his feelings for Aiden but a near catastrophic accident during the race finally makes him realize that he can’t let Aiden go.
There are definitely rocky places along the way for Aiden and Matt, and I shed more than a few tears – both happy and sad, but I’m not giving anything away by telling you they do get an HEA and I thought it was pretty wonderful.

When Aiden’s friend, Liv, talks him into joining a mud run, at first Aiden is really not sure… but with the help of tequila he of course agrees. The next morning when he wakes up… well thats a different story. While Aiden is sure this is a super bad idea, Liv has taken the reins and decided that she will get her cousin Matt to join and he can help train Aiden. Upon the first meeting, Aiden is very eager to be “trained” by Matt but he is straight much to Aiden’s disappointment. As the two train, both running and going to the gym, they start a friendship of sorts, and in one moment they go from friendship to a friends with benefits type of thing. For Aiden this is perfect he doesn’t want anything serious anyways… until there comes a point where he realizes that maybe he does. Maybe he wants more than a no strings agreement, but he can’t say the same for Matt. Matt who is so far in the closet that no one knows that he is bi. What happens when Matt realizes that he overstepped the agreement? Will they call it quits or try this new thing thats called a relationship?
So I am on the fence with this one. To me, IMO, this was more about the hook ups. I say that with an S so be prepared there is more than one, and while it was ok… I didn’t want to read about Aiden and someone else, this was supposed to be about him with Matt. Don’t get me wrong, this was not cheating in anyway, shape or form. Just not my thing, I don’t like that in MF stories either. I didn’t get any feels from Matt and Aiden, this sort of fell flat for me. I give this 3.5 stars.
