Studying abroad just got a whole lot sexier…On my first outing in Madrid, I never thought I’d end up spending the hottest night of my life in the arms of a gorgeous Spaniard. Rafael Montoya is everything study abroad dreams are made of: sexy, sophisticated, and really good with his hands. As the sun comes up over the city, he gives me the kiss to end all kisses. And then he disappears.I’m … then he disappears.
I’m crushed. But it wouldn’t be the first time a guy has ghosted me.
I really need to focus on my studies while I’m here in Madrid anyway. My Spanish is practically nonexistent, and my grades show it.
My program assigns me a new tutor. But when I walk into the room to find none other than Rafa waiting for me, I almost have a heart attack.
Even crazier? I find out I gave him the wrong number. He wants to take me out. Show me his beloved Madrid. More than that, he wants to extend our classroom lessons into the bedroom, too.
I should keep my distance. I’m heading back to the states at the end of the semester. Why fall for someone if it will inevitably end in heartbreak?
But this Spaniard wants me. And he’ll stop at nothing until I’m his.
LESSONS IN LOVE is a STANDALONE romance in the STUDY ABROAD series. The books in this series are complete standalones with interconnected characters, and can be read in any order.

Hot and Spicy Lessons
I would highly recommend this book. Vivian and Rafa are a hot and spicy couple. Vivian struggles with school abroad and tries to make decisions along the way which she thinks are for the best but only hurt everyone along the way.
Did you ever read a book you had no idea what was in store for you? Yes, I knew it was a romance and took place in Spain. What I didn’t know was the cultural experience I was going to get. I would now like to take a trip to Spain. The description of the city of Madrid, the nightlife, the way of life and the cultural tour I was taken on made it such an enjoyable experience.
Now onto the story.
Vivian is a student trying to study abroad and expand her horizons and her GPA. I have to admit at times she really annoyed me with all her vacillating. You know what I get it though. Each person has their own way of doing or not doing things. While I was reading and being frustrated a scene from a very famous teen movie came into my mind. In this scene Jessica says:
“When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Our answers were things like astronaut, president, or in my case… princess.
When we were ten, they asked again and we answered – rock star, cowboy, or in my case, gold medalist. But now that we’ve grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how ’bout this: who the hell knows?!
This isn’t the time to make hard and fast decisions, its time to make mistakes. Take the wrong train and get stuck somewhere chill. Fall in love – a lot. Major in philosophy ’cause there’s no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind. Then change it again, because nothing is permanent
So make as many mistakes as you can. That way, someday, when they ask again what we want to be… we won’t have to guess. We’ll know”.
After I thought about this scene my frustration subsided because many times we are so busy trying to placate or please other people. We forget to please ourselves. You can’t please everyone, especially if you’re not being true to yourself.
Rafa, wow!!! Seriously, I can find nothing wrong with this guy. I tried. If I had to find something it would be that he was too nice. Actually, this is not a problem.
I don’t do spoilers. I feel it’s not fair to the author. Read the book to get full enjoyment of the story. I will say we meet some interesting characters within the book. Looking forward to reading their stories as well.
This is a fast read. I read it in one sitting. Oh too, I also learned a few words in Spanish. Since I’m not fluent in anything but English ( and that’s debatable Lol) it was enlightening. So read this book and enjoy the trip…I certainly did!
3.5 stars. A solid start to the series. Rafa was amazing. He was my favorite character of the whole book. I didn’t connect with the heroine as much. It might be because I typically read books with older characters and that’s what I’m used to. Overall, a good storyline.
I became a fan of Jessica Peterson’s books a while ago, but I had never read the Study Abroad series. Lessons In Love, the first in the series, was a fun romance set in Spain. I loved that Rafa and Vivian felt something for each other the night they met, but their relationship built slowly. I enjoyed learning some new things about Spain, it’s art, and it’s culture.
I’m a huge Jessica Peterson fan, however I never read the Study Abroad series, to be honest I don’t know why, after reading book one I’m kicking myself for waiting for so long. I loved hanging out in Madrid with Rafael and Vivian. I loved the writing, it was so detailed I felt like I was overseas with them. Wine night with the girls was great, I loved Viv’s internal struggle with what to do with her life, we’ve all been there and can relate! and the heat was off the pages with this book!
