I almost didn’t believe it was him.
In high school, Sebastian Pryce had been an aloof outsider who kept to himself. But now, ten years later, he’s back and unusually attractive. With muscle in all the right places and hands that know exactly what they’re doing, Sebastian is everything I didn’t know I needed. And while he isn’t exactly friendly, he has a magnetism that draws me in.
He pulls …
He pulls away, afraid he’ll break me.
Until the night I demanded more—and he gave it. (Hard and deep. Twice.)
Were we just two lost, lonely people seeking solace?
Or could a disgraced reality TV star and a flawed, frustrating man actually find some sort of happy together?
** SOME SORT OF HAPPY is a full-length standalone romance. **
“I kept thinking about this story long after I finished reading. It’s sweet, sexy, and smart, which is what I’ve come to expect from Harlow’s books. I loved it.” — Claire Contreras, NYT Bestselling Author

My favorite Harlow novel. Sebastian will remain one of those heroes I compare all leading men to. Different. Vulnerable. Powerfully romantic.
Skylar is home from New York after trying acting and being on a reality show where she was encouraged to act as the villain. Sabastian is a lawyer with OCD who couldn’t make it as a big city lawyer, so he comes home to work in his father’s firm. Skylar and Sebastian both have problems and help each other. I couldn’t put this down.
Loved the story. You really love to hate the neuroses that Sebastian has. The book really paints a true picture of someone suffering from OCD, anxiety and depression. The manic thoughts and tendencies used to calm and soothe. The book was very realistic. He hates his intrusive thoughts and wished he was normal so he can deserve her. He hates the thoughts and rituals. Skylar is awesome. She is rebuilding her life and seeing Sebastian again they seem to click and balance one another. I loved how she just wanted to be there and help. As long as he explained his issues and opened up she was loving and reassuring and there to help. But when he had set backs he tended to shit down and close off. His thoughts were he was protecting her from him and his issues. But he was protecting himself as well. Loved the end. And the plane scene. Haha the barbie was adorable. How it ended was perfect. Loved how the even numbers are better. Lol. I feel the same.
I am not sure I want to read the rest of this series. I found this book to be depressing. I didn’t really like Skylar, who was kind of insecure and whiny. Especially yo be as old as she was in this book.
I felt badly for Sebastian. I could not imagine having that much going on inside my head at one time. Or trying to have to explain to people what I was thinking or feeling.
I felt like Skylar was more into Sebastian at first because he was all about her. Then she would get impatient because he didn’t respond or react the way she wanted him to at that moment. She knew about his issues. She violated his privacy, not once, but twice, and she tended to push issues.
I’m not saying that having a relationship with Sebastian with his OCD issues would be easy, but knowing what Skylar knew, I could not understand why she never suggests joining him in one of his therapy sessions. Or at minimum, asking him to ask his therapist what he thought about it.
Sebastian’s sexual prowess was a big component of this book, and VERY important to Skylar. I listened to the entire audiobook. Eight hours I can’t get back. I have the 3rd book, but since I have my own issues and like to read things in order (LOL), I listened to this book first.
Way too much angst, struggle, and unhappiness for me. I would suggest you read/listen and judge for yourself.
Some Sort Of Happy is a fantastic contemporary romance by Melanie Harlow. Ms. Harlow has provided readers with a well-written book filled with outstanding characters. It is written in first person, alternating point of view, my least favorite format. Skylar, once loved by the town she grew up in, is a social outcast because she made the wrong decision on a reality tv show. Sebastian has moved back to his hometown after his OCD cost him his job and a breakdown. Sebastian and Skylar’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sexy bits and the horrors of OCD. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Melanie Harlow in the future. Some Sort Of Happy is book 1 of the Happy Crazy Love Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I have to admit, I keep reading Melanie’s series, not in the proper order. It’s fun discovering how all her characters are connected through out all these stories. I do have my favorite and my least favorite sisters. This book goes on the list of my favorite ones. Skylar is not one of the most likable girls but Sebastian makes up for it… and that’s the amazing thing, that they complement each other. I loved this couple. They are both strong and vulnerable in different ways and that makes them the perfect match!
Good narration if the audiobook.
I love romance books that have unique characters and not just your everyday cookie-cutter alpha male meets witty female love interest. Melanie Harlow did an excellent job of creating her male lead, Sebastian, who suffers from debilitating OCD. The story was gripping and realistic, and you will fall in love with Sebastian just like Skylar did. I read this in one day and highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I think It was my first book by her. Can’t go wrong with a Melanie Harlow book!
This was my first book by Melanie Harlow. Some Sort of Happy was the first book in her Happy Crazy Love Series but it can be read as a stand-alone. At first I was not sure how I felt about certain conversations, it seemed like it could have gone down the wrong path really fast. But Melanie quickly stopped my fear of that and I ended up loving the light she painted Sebastian in. Some Sort of Happy was a very sexy, hot, racy read.
Skylar was about at rock bottom. After making a fool of herself on national tv, she was forced to move back home. Nothing like being in your late 20’s and moving back in with Mom and Dad. Could this “free” time allow her to get her life back on track or would past mistakes prove to be too much.
Sebastian moved back home too, but for completely different reasons. He needed time to figure out what he could or couldn’t handle. His life got real too fast, would he ever be able to live a normal life? Running into Skylar made him take a step back. She was the one woman he would try for, would they be able to figure things out together or would their own issues keep them apart?
Skylar was kind of annoying to me but I really enjoyed Sebastian. He was so sweet and caring, he tried his hardest to be the best person for himself and Skylar. This was not my favorite book, but I liked it enough to continue the series!
I am a Melanie Harlow fan. But this book just didn’t entertain or capture my interest at all for some reason. Tried to finish but quit about 3/4 thru. I won’t let this one book stop my interest in Melanie’s writing though.
I was lucky enough to win an Arc of Some Sort Of Happy by Melanie Harlow!! I loved everything about this book!! This book is about MC Sebastian who has to deal with OCD and extreme anxiety while hoping to cope enough to start a relationship with a girl we has had a crush on since school. A beautiful emotional story that makes you think. Melanie truly writes so well that you fall deeply in love with the characters. It teaches us to try to be better people. I simply loved it!!! A must read!!
n the interest of reading the third book in this series, I decided to start at the beginning. So Some Sort of Happy hit my radar and once I started my journey with Sebastian and Skylar, I didn’t want to stop. At all.
Sebastian has OCD and anxiety. It pretty much controls his life. Yes, he has management techniques and he has learned to live with it, but when times get tough or overwhelming Sebastian relapses. Due to these idiosyncrasies, Sebastian is very much a loner and a social outcast. Has been his entire life–or at least after his mother died.
Skylar, middle Nixon child, is a fallen star. Well, really she never took off, but her recent stint on a reality tv show left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths. And I mean EVERYONE. Now a social outcast, she wants to hide from everyone, but she also wants to find herself. She knows she isn’t cut out for the big time, but she wants to prove she can do something. Prove to everyone she isn’t the bad person that she portrayed on television.
A chance encounter at the beach sets this love story in motion.
Oh, I fell head over heels in love with Sebastian. He’s quirky, real, and he loves deeply. He also has a kinky side that is so…incredibly…hot. Skylar is the perfect person for our Sebastian. She knows when to push him and when to hold back. She knows how to love him for him. She doesn’t look at his OCD/anxiety as a bad thing. She doesn’t shut him out. If anything, he shuts her out when things become more than he can handle.
Naturally there are some hurdles, but nothing a true love cannot overcome. I loved reading the progression of this relationship. Sebastian and Skylar both grow during this book. And they grow into better versions of themselves.
My parting words?
Marry Me.
loved it
Loved this first book in the Happy Crazy Love novel! Skylar and Sebastian were two very different people, yet not so different, that come together at a time when they both unknowingly need each other. The story of their relationship is put together so well, it draws you in and has you rooting for their happy ending all the way through the book to The End. Melanie Harlow is a superb author, and I look forward to reading more from her.
I finished Some Sort of Happy about 20 minutes ago and here I still sit, sobbing like an idiot with snot running down my face…and I don’t even know why! OMG, this book! I’m completely in love with Sebastian. (This was my reaction immediately upon finishing the book. I had to soak it all in before writing my full review.)
I would give this book 8×2* if I could.
Gah, this book! This book is everything, everything ! I don’t think I have the words to do it justice. I didn’t believe there was a book Melanie could write that would top Frenched in my mind, but SSoH has completely thrown my world into a tailspin. This book is brilliant. It’s heartwrenching. It’s captivating. It’s perfection. It really is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
Skylar and Sebastian couldn’t be 2 more different people, but together they somehow worked. And they worked beautifully. They were the 2 halves to make a complete and wonderful whole.
Sebastian holds my heart. He’s one of the most compelling characters I have ever had the pleasure to read. His is a poignant story, one that will have you crying and laughing and swooning.
If I have said it enough, I love this book. I think it’s probably Melanie’s best work yet, and I adore all of her books. But there’s just something about this one that sets itself apart from the rest. This is one to be pulled out and read again, and I am not a rereader. And this is one book I definitely want on my shelf.

8 “2 is better than 1” Stars!
I love this book so much! I was worried a little that my memory of loving it wouldn’t live up to a second go-round, but I’m happy to say it did! I just adore Sebastian and hearing his voice, getting to listen to his fears and worries, ugh it just did me in. He is so endearing and such a compelling character, I just wanted to wrap him up in a hug.
It’s funny, Sky irritated me a little this time around, maybe because of hearing her say certain things instead of reading them. It was nothing major, just every once in awhile I wanted her to give Sebastian a break. But I loved that she didn’t give up on him, or let him give up on himself.
I don’t know, after listening to this it may have finally knocked Frenched out of the top spot of my Melanie Harlow favorites.
Speaking of Frenched- I guess no one told Nelson that Mia didn’t have a French accent, or told Lucy that Lucas did! Other than those 2 little blips I really enjoyed the narration. They both really brought Sebastian and Sky to life. It was especially wonderful hearing Sebastian- I think Nelson did a wonderful job bringing out all the emotions and feelings to his character. It made me fall even harder for Sebastian than the first time around, and I didn’t think that was possible.
