Lawson Daniel is good at a lot of things. He can show you the best places to surf, the perfect time of day to ride the tide. He knows the best bars, the best bands, he has the best weed, and if you’re looking to get laid, he’ll show you the best time.No girl in her right mind should speak to him. She definitely shouldn’t have sex with him, and only a blind, self-loathing idiot would fall in love … fall in love with him.
I’ve done all three.
All in the span of one sweltering, suffering summer that nearly cost me everything down to the blood in my body and the beat of my heart.
No one walked away from that season unscathed.
Not even Lawson Daniel.
*New Adult Romance intended for audiences 18 and older.

Update: I reread this 5/10/2020 and my previous review was spot on. I loved the storyline, the characters and the supporting characters. It was well written, sweet, sexy, intriguing and enjoyable; yet I wanted more from Lawson, which could have been accomplished through his POV. And four years later, I still craved a series – even if only for the main secondary story. No spoilers, so no elaboration, but you’ll know it when you see it! Following was my original review from March 2016:
Lawless was a quick and easy read with great characters and a great storyline.
Lawson Daniels exemplified the typical drop dead gorgeous sexy hero that is the object of every female’s dream. Add in his intelligence, surfer attitude and enigmatic nature, and he’s close to perfect. Rachel Mason was beautiful, driven, and practical with a set of dreams that she’s had planned out in detail for years.
Ward walked us through the attraction and budding relationship in detail and with anticipation. I loved that the storyline wasn’t predictable and included a few plot twists without impractical angst.
Lawless was from Rachel’s point of view. Therefore, Lawson was mysterious and although he was alluring, I desired more character development for him. Furthermore, for a small town, I felt there should have been more to their story growing up that led them to the present day. The additional backstory would have provided increased depth and substance.
Lastly, I loved the supporting cast. There are so many different stories that can be written. I don’t see anything regarding a series yet, but I’m hopeful. This would also give Ward the opportunity to show the continued development of Lawson and Rachel, which I’m craving.
All I all, it was enjoyable and I look forward to more from Ward.
This was a really enjoyable read. The resident bad boy saves our girl’s life – not from a really bad boy, but from one of nature’s most infamous predators. What follows is a summer of discovery – about the validity of rumors, what dreams are really in the heart, the truth behind the public mask, and how to love.
Well edited.
Rachel has her life planned. She has waited two years post-high school graduation to pursue her musical education. On the eve of her departure, she spends time soaking in the sun, surf, and sand of home. One last swim and she’ll be off to finish up, sleep, and be off. Except one last swim derails all of her plans. She goes a little too far out and encounters a curious great white. Fortunately, the shark was young and simply curious. And, fortunately, Lawson was out waiting on one last wave and saw the shark. Lawson saved Rachel that night. The plans for college slowly unravel – the company she planned to work for won’t hold her internship. The apartment she planned to lease falls through. The money for the airline ticket is gone – who knew they’d need the insurance because of a shark attack?
On the plus side, Lawson keeps reaching out and helping. He finds a job for Rachel for the summer. He drives her to and from work as she recovers from her injuries. Slowly, they develop a relationship. But, when the summer is over, will they hold on or let go? Will Rachel leave to pursue her musical dreams? Lawson has been deferring his own dreams for quite some time. Will he ever get to pursue his dreams? And if he does, how will that effect Rachel? Will they ever have good timing?
Lawless was a quick, enjoyable read. Both Lawson and Rachel are trying to figure out life. Are the dreams they have long held still the dreams they want? Will they adjust to include each other in their dreams of the future? Lawson is a really wonderful character – so very selfless, deferring his dreams to help his family, never seeming to let timing get the best of him. Rachel is trying her best to reach for a future, be honest with herself and Lawson, and learn how to navigate life. Pulling for them to find their HEA was so very easy! Enjoy!
