New York Times Bestselling Author Lorhainne Eckhart brings you HE CAME BACK, one woman’s haunting journey when her husband returns home and everything she thought she knew about their life together has suddenly changed.
And for fans of the Walk the Right Road series, guess who’s back? Diane and Zac join a new cast of characters in this upcoming release!
An interesting story. This review is based on the audiobook I received from #authorsxp and wanted to give an honest review.
Sean is in the navy and deployed overseas. One day, his wife Annie receives a phone call from a man called Zac. Apparently he is a good friend of Sean’s. He explains to Annie that Sean is back in the US even though he hasn’t contacted Annie at all. He is definitely not the same man who left. When Sean finally comes home, he seems to want nothing to do with Annie. The damage to his psyche is so deep. A deeply disturbed man. A devoted wife. An attack in the night. Zac and Diane, amazing friends. What an absolutely fabulous story. Fantastic.
This is an engaging story about a soldier who returns from his tour of duty a far different man. It is obvious that he is suffering from PTSD, but he refuses to share with his wife. Instead, he relies on his friend to help him through. When he finally snaps (inevitably) and nearly kills his wife, he finally seeks help. Things progress and it seems that everything is going to work out fine. But, of course, there has to be the big finale!
Not a bad book, but it did become tedious at times. The MC, Sean, is not very likeable and I found myself wanting to shake him. His friend, Zach, wasn’t much better in that he didn’t insist that Sean seek help before tragedy could strike. There was a happy ending, but not before loads of problems.
The narrator did a good job and added a lot to my listening pleasure. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.
An emotional journey for Annie Green whose husband, Sean, should be home any day from his latest deployment. Instead of Sean, she receives a phone call from his best friend Zac. Plans have changed and Annie must deal with the new normal. Her husband has seen things that have changed him, is it too late for them to reconnect? Sean is afraid that he is too broken, too far damaged to be with Annie, but how can he live without her? A more somber storyline dealing with returning military personnel who have survived issues that may have physically or mentally changed them. A story of hope and healing with help from friends Diane and Zac (from Bounty). I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
Another good book by Ms. Eckhart. She always delivers! This is a standalone book that deals with two couples going through issues in their marriages. Annie & Sean are dealing with PTSD and the effects of it on relationships. Sean tries to handle it alone and finally realizes that he can’t. Diane & Zak are dealing with strong personalities clashing and having to learn to compromise. All are very good characters. Good story with HEA.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
It’s Sean’s last deployment. As Annie, his wife, prepares for his return and their move across country to their new home and life, she gets a call. A call that will change everything she ever knew about her life and her husband.
This is a moving tale of a warrior’s fight to comeback from a tragic incident for which he is responsible. It’s filled with emotional drama, episodes of PTSD, and internal strife, as well as the inevitable hope born out of a deep and abiding love. I especially loved this because of the return of Zac and Diane, who play a major part in Sean’s and Annie’s new reality. For those who have read the Walk the Right Road series, you’ll be familiar with their back story. Toward the end to this book there’s an episode of life-threatening danger for both couples that will have you on the edge of your seat. This is a very compelling story that will keep you captivated from start to finish.
This is a review of the audiobook.

I enjoyed this; the narration was very good.
This story is a bit different from other books I’ve read by Lorhainne Eckhart so that took a bit of adjusting at the beginning. It’s the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Caroline McLaughlin and I thought she did a very good job. Her voice was pleasant to listen to and the cadence and inflections she used were on the mark. I wouldn’t say that she performed this book, like some narrators do, but she definitely read it well and change the tone of her voice for the different characters.
He Came Back is a stand-alone story and it’s pretty angsty. The summary doesn’t really tell you too much about the story so I’ll share a bit here. Sean has left the Navy and is having difficulties now that he is back in the U.S. His wife is ready to join him in their new home when he changes everything on her.
The book got off to a bit of a shaky start for me but it quickly picked up. It soon became apparent that Sean was suffering from some type of PTSD. It’s takes quite a while but we eventually find out what happened in bits and pieces. That added a bit of mystery to the story.
Annie is not happy when she learns that Sean has taken a job in a different city from where they planned to live. It really throws her because she already had a job lined up in Seattle and now Sean says they’re moving to Port Angeles.
While this story took my emotions on a rollercoaster ride I thought would end in disaster, it has a satisfying HEA.
I read one review on Audible where the reviewer was confused because the bulk of the book is about Sean and Annie and then it suddenly seems to be about Zac and Diane. I didn’t notice anything odd but since I also have a copy of the ebook I took a look at it and found that it’s divided into two separate books with the last 9 chapters being about Zac and Diane. However, Sean and Annie definitely have a major role in this part of the story, too.
In conclusion, I have other audio books by Lorhainne Eckhart that are read by Caroline McLaughlin and I will definitely be listening to them soon.
I won a copy of this audiobook in a contest and no review was requested or required.
