For a select group of girls, the Glittering Court offers a shot at a life they’ve only ever dreamed of, one of luxury, glamour, and leisure. To high-born Adelaide, whose wealthy family is forcing her into a loveless marriage, the Glittering Court represents something else: the chance to chart her own destiny, and adventure in an unspoiled, prosperous new land across the sea.
After a chance meeting with the dazzling Cedric Thorn, Adelaide poses as a servant to join the crop of impoverished girls he promises to transform into proper ladies. But her familiarity with upper class life comes with a price: she must hide her identity from her new friends, mysterious refugee Mira and fiery former laundress Tamsin, and most importantly, from Cedric himself—even though she’s falling in love with him.
Everything begins to crumble when Cedric discovers Adelaide’s ruse, and she catches the eye of a powerful young governor, who wants her for a wife. She didn’t leave the gilded cage of her old life behind just to become someone else’s property. But nothing is as daunting—or as wonderful—as the potent, forbidden attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. One that, if acted on, would make them both outcasts in a wild, dangerous, uncharted world, and possibly lead them to their deaths.

Wow!!!!
When I first starting reading this book I was a bit on the iffy side since it is my first Richelle Mead read. No I have not read Vampire Academy despite owning the entire series. But I pushed on with book wondering what was in store for Adelaide. I’m so glad I did because this book was a whirlwind of surprises in the best way imaginable. I was so absorbed in this book I hardly came up for air.
This book was wonderfully written with plenty of surprises and grip your seat angst that had me terrified to read the next page. I enjoyed the world Richelle Mead created that was much like our history, but a few twists on society and religion. I loved the main character Adelaide; she was a very strong and smart girl with a silver tongue who spoke her mind. My favorite kind of main character. I also liked that she had two best friends that she made while in The Glittering Court, Tamsin and Mira who were supportive and had each others back. I also loved Cedric and Adelaide and Cedric together were more than enjoyable.
This book took me by complete surprise. There were plenty of OMG and WTH moments that had me baffled at what could possibly happen next. The romance was beautifully written and very tasteful so that young readers won’t feel uncomfortable. I highly recommend this book.
Didn’t continue with the series as the POV jumps to a different character entirely and I’m just not a fan of stories written that way. Just a personal quirk.
I had preconceived ideas of this book due to the title and the cover, however the direction the story line went caught me by surprise. I liked the book, and it was well written. But for me personally having the cover and title pull me right in, then the direction of the plot not maintaining that anticipation did tinge my overall enjoyment of the book.
Great trilogy! I love the timelines in this series and the way the story unfolds.
I enjoyed the book a lot. It’s one of those books that you never want to end, so the more pages it has, the better it is. I would love to be offered a sequel to read. Maybe something about Tamsen or the other main character, Mira.
I love reading a book by a favorite author that confirms their talent and why I enjoy their stories. The Glittering Court was just such a book. Richelle Mead has a way of building characters and telling a story that draws me in. I find myself getting lost in her created worlds.
In the kingdom of Osfrid, Elizabeth/Adalaide finds herself in the middle of deception, secrets, hidden identities, preparing for adventures in the “New World”, discovering friendship and true love. Along the way she must rethink what she has been taught with regard to religious tolerance and intolerance. She also has to use all her wits and resources to try to save her true love.
Richelle Mead shines a light on injustice, bigotry, betrayal, treason, and other societal downfalls through the telling of an original story set in a fictional world. There were some unanswered questions at the end that I am hoping will be answered in future books in this series! This is a book I definitely recommend!
Richelle Mead never disappoints. She is a story-teller of note.
I was hesitant to read this series as I’m I big fan of Vampire Academy and it’s spin-off.
I should have trusted her. It is a wonderful new series.
I loved the twists and turns of the story.
