Michael was that guy.
The one that everyone was cautious of. Maybe it was the tattoos. Maybe it was the way he gave off a ‘don’t screw with me’ vibe. Maybe it was because he just told them to leave him the hell alone.
Regardless, people gave him his space.
He was screwed up, and everyone knew it.
He got tattoos because he liked the pain. He was standoffish. He didn’t have many friends … standoffish. He didn’t have many friends outside of work. And the only thing he had going for him was that he was a good cop.
Everyone wondered about him, but no one asked.
The only one that didn’t treat him as if he was screwed up was Nikki Pena, a woman that he couldn’t have.
Nikki was that girl.
The one that everyone loved.
The one girl that he’d destroy if he let her have her way. What did she want?
Him.
But, he couldn’t give her him. She didn’t deserve what it would take to be with him.
So Michael would suffer in silence…or so he thought.
The woman who loved him had different ideas.

Michael and Nikki’s story is beautiful story. It’s not often you read a book about some with bipolar. I honestly loved this story.
Michael was always the one that was never really given much information on. this was because it was always said that he didn’t share anything about himself. there was times that little bits of information was given, but not much. the only thing that you were given was that he was covered in tattoos. Nikki is the sister of Nico, Michael’s fellow SWAT team member. their story is one that they both love one another but are too stubborn to see that they need to actually share their fears to make their life together possible. i likes these two. Nikki was the perfect female counterpart for Michael. she doesn’t see Michael any different once things come to the surface. she just loves him more.
finally getting Michael’s story was the perfect ending for the KPD-SWAT series. and i know that these guys will still make their presence known in future books.
I have been wanting to read Nikki and Michael’s story and boy was it an amazing ride. Let me start off by saying I wanted to throat punch Dean and Joslin!!! Michael’s story is one that is familiar to me and I can say that Lani Lynn Vale did an amazing job bringing his struggles to life. Nikki’s life has not been easy but I have to say I loved how she kept her sass and didn’t back down no matter what. I absolutely loved this story and these characters are family!!!
So good it had me on the edge of my seat
I just loved this last book in the KPD SWAT series. Michael and Nikki’s story is so good. Nikki has some sass and doesn’t take no ones shit. She made me laugh so much during this book. They way she is with her brother, Nico, is hilarious. And then there is Michael who knows what he wants but is afraid to go after it because of his “illness” as he likes to call it. But that does not stop Nikki from loving him and wanting him.
There is someone that doesn’t want them to have their happily ever after. Go read this book to find out what happens because you won’t find any spoilers here.
A beautiful second chance romance and an intensely gripping, emotional journey for Michael and Nikki to go on. Michael and Nikki fight for what they want, know what they wanted, the fight they endured to keep what they wanted with each other, trusting one another, and the unconditional love they prove to one another. I loved, loved, loved this story.
Nikki and Michael were together in the past but had broken up even though they were both in love with each other. While I liked the basis of the story and how most of it was written, I felt it was missing some things. First, I need an epic fight or breakup but theirs fell short. Maybe it’s just me but I like it. Also, I thought the whole storyline with the case and her doctor needed more. How was she not involved in it in the end?! Then there was Joslin. I feel like there was a buildup for some kind of epic fight or something with her with either Michael, Nikki or both about her wanting Michael and it didn’t happen. I feel like it was hinted the whole time that she hated Nikki so i expected something to happen. In the end it was an ok story but I just wished it had a little bit more.
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the publisher sent me.
I have to say this one was quite interesting from the get go. Michael is not who you think he is. He is a private guy who keeps things to himself. He falls for Nikki who is the perfect girl that he shouldn’t fall for. Michael ends up going to a call that changes his thinking. Him and Nikki give each other a chance. But one person keeps getting in the way. That person I could not stand. She was plain and simple just evil. Lani wrote her character amazingly. She was the person no one liked or wanted around and her character was perfect. I absolutely loved Michael and Nikki and how they fought to be together. There was a lot between these two that they needed to work through. I could not believe everything that goes down between these two. This was a very gripping intense storyline. I loved every intense page turning moment.
The final book in the KPD Swat series ended on such a massive high. Michael and Nikki’s story was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. A story that made me cry, ache, smile and laugh with two people who brought out the best in each other. Michael was a man with a heart of gold who sometimes doubted himself and in turn unintentionally hurting the ones he loved the most. Coup De Grace was a story that you emotionally connected with and found yourself held hostage to each and every word. This is the third time I have read their book and I can guarantee you it will not be the last.
FINALLY, Michael & Nikki got to tell their story. I truly enjoyed the humor infused throughout the story (those chapter headings are AWESOME), the touching on delicate subject matter, getting to catch up with characters from previous books & I absolutely LOVED Nikki. But, at the same time… I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this one. I wanted more. More from Michael, more of the strong connection that I know they had with one another, more passion… It was definitely a good read but something was just missing for me.
Nikki… I ADORED this woman! She had spirit, she was fierce & she stayed so very strong in the most stressful of situations. Stealing Michael’s truck, her dancing at Salsarita Mamacitas, her relationship with her family & the hilarious things that came out of her mouth are just a few of the reasons why I loved her. I can easily say that Nikki is one of my favorite SWAT heroines!
Michael… I liked him but honestly, I wish Nikki would’ve made him work for it a bit more. After he made his play for Nikki once again, I appreciated the way he opened up to her about the tattoos, the way he turned Nikki into a “walking horny machine” & his determination in helping out the abused children in his cases at work (even if one led to their time apart). And he was super sweet in the epilogue.
There were a couple of confusing spots in this book for me. I was completely baffled with one scene that goes from flashback into present. I read & re-read it a few times because it felt like it should still be in the past but it wasn’t… It went from past relationship to present relationship. Huh? Then the time apart stuff… WTF, Michael?! I definitely was not a fan of that communication breakdown. And one more thing… How come Michael’s name changed from Perez to Alvarez (Bennett’s last name) in the second half of the book?
Oooh, & let’s not forget Joslin. I really disliked the way things ended with her. It would’ve been so much better without her sticking around for so long.
Coup De Grace is a must-read for fans of the SWAT series. Can’t wait for the next Lani Lynn Vale adventure!! Will it involve Hannah & Wolf? Hmm…
I absolutely love the KPD swat guys and all their books. I’m sad that this is the last one though. But it’s a great story. I’m so happy with how things worked out with Michael and Nikki. I just wish this series could keep going and going and going. But that’s my greediness coming out again.
I was shocked by what was happening in the book, not with Nikki and Michael, but with the “bad guy”.
I loved the parts about baby Nathan and with Madden and the other two babies. I love how things ended up for them. I was a little shocked with Madden’s story though. With who helped him out. My jaw may have dropped a little.
Lani Lynn Vale did a great job with portraying Michael’s issue, sorry don’t want to say what it is and go into detail and give anything away. How Michael handles it, is great. And when he tells Nikki, she doesn’t even blink over it.
I love Nikki’s smart mouth and how she doesn’t think before she acts all the time. I mean, who steals a cop’s truck? Nikki does that’s who. I was busting up laughing.
Just like in all the other books, there were little sayings and such at the beginning of each chapter and they had me rolling. I really look forward to reading those.
“I hate you. Not in an ‘I hope you die’ kind of way, but more like I hope you develop an allergy to chocolate and cheese kind of way.”
If you haven’t read this series, you really need to. I love them all!
So this came at the perfect time, you know, when you just finished a read that was…… not good. So let’s just say this baby popped up on my kindle and I waited, I promised myself I would finish this book before I started, what to me, is a book by an author that is just AMAZING. Yeah, that didn’t work, I said, oooo just 20 min with my coffee this AM….um…. 2 1/2 hours later, I was done….oops!
LOL anyways as usual here is your warning, THIS IS PART OF A SERIES, I DO RECOMMENED YOU READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS. WHY? YOU MAY ASK, CUZ YOU WILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT HAS HAPPENED OR WHAT’S GOING ON, AND LET’S FACE IT, STARTING IN THE MIDDLE OR END OF A SERIES IS JUST FREAKING CRAZY. Ok, you were warned…
So, finally we get Michael and Nikki’s story!!!! And yes this was worth the wait! For those that have read this series, Michael and Nikki are side characters that we grew to love while reading Nico’s story. Michael and Nikki had been in a relationship before, but for a couple of good reasons, it didn’t work out. Will Nikki give Michael a second chance? We get to see everybody in this book, and I loved it. With a bit of a mystery, some drama, needing a cold shower sexy time, and hot alpha males this was fantastic.
I can say, I laughed and giggled probably the last….25%. Lani Lynn Vale pulls you into this world where it will play out in a movie, and have people around you thinking “what is wrong with her, she keeps laughing!”, or in my case, “o crap, she is crying.” LMAO I give this 5 stars.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
Michael falls for a woman he should stay clear of. But in the end who can control who they fall for. Nikki is amazing and funny.
