Lady Amelia has only known the comfort of life in mid-eighteenth century English aristocracy. But when her father dies, she finds herself alone, grief-stricken, and not of age. Her appointed guardian, an American uncle, has ordered her to move to America, where she must remain until she comes of age. With the help of Grace and Sarah, Amelia gets her uncle to agree to give her four weeks to settle … to settle her affairs and unbeknownst to him…find an English lord to marry. Despite her mourning period, she endeavors to trap one of London’s eligible bachelors in matrimony so she can remain in her beloved England.
The Duke of Goldstone is devilishly handsome, but a Scottish Duke is entirely unacceptable as a husband. After all, Scotland is not her beloved England. He has a nasty habit of showing up at all the wrong moments and thwarting her carefully laid plans to ensnare a suitable husband. Sparks fly as the pair find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time. Can they stop arguing long enough to explore their growing passion?

When you read a book and months later, see its cover later and remember the story–to me that’s a mark of a good story–this book was that for me. I loved the creative ‘jam’ that Lady Amelia faced and how she went about solving the dilemma. Of course, I could not recommend Lady Amelia’s husband-hunting scheme but found it witty and fun to read. Recommend this book –and the paired audiobook is well done, as well!
Very enjoyable!
I enjoyed this story and the characters in it.
It reads quickly and easily with a delightful happy every after built in and I would like to read more from this author.
The attraction developed quickly between Amelia and the Duke. It seemed, however, that they would not make it to the altar. She had misgivings and he did not want to be railroaded into marriage but there is a happy ending.
Silly – didn’t finish it.
It had some problems with anachronisms in the writing, but it was an enjoyable read.
02/20/2021 “Scandalous Endeavors” (nook) was an enjoyable story with a twist on finding love. Ms Mariel vividly described scenes and situations. Sometimes she used too many words or words that did not “fit.” The main characters, Amelia and Richard, start out with a bit of antagonism but underneath is a spark. A lovely HEA.
Scandalous Endeavors: Ladies And Scoundrels, by Amanda Marie. Prepare to fall in love with a new historical romance author. Scandalous Endeavors is a sweeping love story between Amelia and Richard. Amelia character is not your typical lady who waits for her husband to find her. She went in search of him.
Richard is the normal Duke who had no thoughts of marriage until he sees Amelia at his aunts house. Sparks fly from there. The book moved rather quickly from scene to scene for me, however it did not lose me as a reader. The book held my attention from beginning to end. There was humor, charm, wit, romance and passion.
The dialogue flowed easily for each of the characters. Details of each scene was explained well for the reader bringing more to the readers imagination. I look forward to more from this writer.

Blah characters. Felt no connection to the characters or the story.
Enjoyed very much reading the rest of the series.
The heroine was strong, witty and smart. The hero was handsome and smart, the two had some good chemistry together.
The story line and plot were good. Nothing mysterious or any villains. Just a cute plain regency romance story. A bit too plain for me. But it is a nice read and the characters are likeable.
The book has a good storyline that is captivating. The characters are intriguing, engaging, and well developed.
3 1/2 Stars!
After her father dies, Amelia becomes an adult orphan. She’s inherited all her family’s wealth, but must move to America for two years before she gains executor power over the estate. Her only legal family, her Uncle Lewis, lives in America and insists on her moving.
Caught up in a plan to marry an equally titled lord so she can remain in England, Amelia sets out to find the right man.
Her plans change after meeting Richard, a Scottish Duke.
This was a sweet, gently paced romance.

Highly Recommend for OVER 18 DUE TO CONTENT. Amelia lost her mom a few years back and just lost her father. Now the only family she has is her Uncle Lewis. He decides to take her back to America with him to his home. Amelia has another plan and she intends to find a way to stay in England. This storyline is full of turmoil and intrigue that kept me wanting more.

This was a marvelous first book in Ms. Mariel Ladies and Scoundrels series and I cannot wait to read the three other books that I have. I love Ms. Mariel books I have been a fan ever since I read The Lady Archer’s Creed series. I find her books to be easy to read and very well written. The characters are well developed and have great interaction the books are just super fun to read. Amelia is such a strong character, and I loved the Duke it was great seeing how fate got its way. A great book to read! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
