Formerly titled Her Scandalous WishA marriage offered out of obligation… horrific fire, Philomena entertains no notions of a love-match. Hers will be a marriage of convenience. If she can find man who will have her.
When the woman he loves dies, Bradford leaves England and its painful memories behind. After a three-year absence, he returns home but doesn’t recognize his first love when he stumbles upon her hiding in a shadowy arbor during a ball. Something about the mysterious woman enthralls him, and he steals a moonlit kiss. Caught in the act by Philomena’s brother, Bradford is issued an ultimatum—a duel or marry her.
Bradford refuses to duel with a gravely-ill man and offers marriage. But Philomena rejects his half-hearted proposal, convinced he’d grow to despise her when he sees her disfiguring scars. Then her brother collapses, and frantic to provide the medical care he needs, she’s faced with marrying a man who deserted her once already.
This marriage of convenience Regency historical by a USA Today bestselling author is a sigh-worthy, heart-warming tale of love redeemed as Brandon tries to win Philomena’s heart again.

A scarred woman hiding in a garden has her former beau come upon her. She thinks he abandoned her years ago, he thought she died. She needs a husband, he wants things in order before taking a wife. Will spending time together renew their love? I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.
This was a lovely novella that sent you on an array of emotions from hurt feelings, to sick/dying brothers, humor, romance and loving families. Philomena Pomfrett and Bradford, the newly-titled Viscount Kingsley made a delightful couple and I also, loved his family – what a hoot they were!
I won’t get into the the details of the story, as it has been done several times by other reviewers but this is a tale of second chances and betrayals of the worst kind. I highly recommend this book and the series – you won’t be disappointed!
Philomena Pomfrett has endured much in her two and twenty years having lost her parents in a fire, a fire which has left her scarred, the betrayal of the love of her life & now her brother is dying from a heart ailment. She would love nothing more than to live a life of solitude but her brother’s dying wish is for her to marry before he passes so he will know she is taken care of. Which is why she is enduring a London season. Waiting in the garden for he brother Philomena escapes further in to avoid a would be suitor only to run into the one man she hoped to never see again.
Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, has returned to London after seven long years. Seven years in which he has tried to forget the devastation of losing the only woman he will ever love. At least he thought he had forgotten until he catches a glimpse of a beauty while at a ball that brings it all back. Escaping into the gardens to avoid matchmaking mommas Bradford is captivated by the golden haired beauty making the same wish he has made on a falling star. He feels he should know her.
Collette Cameron writes an outstanding novella full of betrayal, heartache, anger, tears and her own unique wit. Ms. Cameron’s ability to draw you into the characters will have you traveling the same roller coaster as Philomena & Bradford. So buckle in for a wonderful 5 star+ ride.
A wonderful tale about second chances! Philomenia is considered a scarred spinster! Having lost her parents in a fire, she must marry! Her brother is dying and he wants to make sure Philomenia is taken care of. The only problem is Philomenia has met the man of dreams and was betrayed! Bradford the new Viscount Kingsley loved Philomenia and after the fire was led to believe (by His own Uncle) she also died in the fire. While attending a ball he sees her and kisses her! Her brother finds them and forces a marriage. They must learn to put the lies behind them and trust again. For neither one had stopped loving the other!
This is a quick read that had tears in my eyes at times as well as smiles. It is a second chance at love for two people kept apart by circumstances. I loved Philomena’s determination to please her brother despite her own belief that no one will love her. Once Bradford realized what is happening, he became a hero I cared for. As the two spend time together, the revelations of the past tugged at my heart. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Another heartwarming story by Collette Cameron. Philomena Pomfrett has determined she will never marry and become a spinster. Three years ago she was in a fire that took her parents and left her scarred. Here brother Bradford is all the family she has left, yet he is dying from a weak heart and it is just a matter of time. Trying to make her brother happy because she would be left destitute she agrees to attend the balls to try to find a husband. Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, returns to London after several years. He and Phil had been in love years ago and but he believed she had perished in the fire. When he comes face to face with her, what can a man do? Almost faint dead away? Will she be brave enough to again be tied to Bradford when she feels she is scarred an undesirable?

Poignant with a happy ending. An elaborate plot of greed and snobbery lead to a family scandal and separation of Bradford and Philomena. ****Book 5: The Wallflower’s Wicked Wager
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the mildly steamy novella A Waltz With a Rogue Book 5: The Wallflower’s Wicked Wager by Collette Cameron and this review was given freely.
An attraction at first sight romance with an unfortunate first meeting and dark themes such as parental abuse, bullying and low self esteem balanced by humor and healing resulting from finding your one true love. Trying to escape a fortune hunter, shy Scottish aristocrat Lady Shona Atterberry fleas only to fall in the lake where the disfigured Morgan Le Draco galently rescues her.
Bradford left England because he believed Philomena died in a fire. Philomena believes that Bradford has abandoned her because she was scarred in that same fire. When they accidentally meet at the Wimpleton’s Ball, they must confront the misconceptions and discover if they have a second chance for love. The true villain of this story is awhile dead, but two families are burdened with the painful consequences of his actions.
There is no action to speak of in this one. It is told through dialogue, and Stevie Zimmerman does an excellent job of capturing the emotions in each character, the joy of reunion, the sadness of illness, the happiness of love, and the humor of Aunt Muriel. I enjoyed this short, emotional, story of second chances. It is a wonderful tale that started with a wish (two, actually).
This engrossing story is about a fire scarred young lady and a newly titled Viscount who very luckily have a second chance at love because of the clever scheming of her dying brother. The Viscount’s aunt also plays an important role in their lives.
I spent a good few hours reading and thoroughly enjoying this well thought out and written story which has a re-blossoming love affair at the fore, the sadness of watching a brother die day by day and an aunt who is quite wonderful and very funny in the background.
Collette Cameron has done a great job of entertaining me with this novella and I am very happy to recommend it.
