This set of books my son “lent” to my after my wife said it was “dumb”. A certain young lady suggested he read it.She loved it, he really tried but got nowhere. To prove it was a waste of time he had his warped and demented pater confirm his opinion……
Talk about a rip roaring HOOT and a half….I had to read all four and begged for more…..
Now here is my problem…..do I try to trade in Mrs DOG or ask a fine young lady to adopt an olddog…..I am house broken…..or pound some sense in son’s head….
She is a KEEPER!!!!!!..and MRS DOG wants more grandkids…..
Only reading the first book so far but really loving the world and characters. The heroine of book 1, Cara, is so strong and yet broken inside. Can the man who has fallen for her, save her?
This was the first Steampunk book I’d read and I fell in love with the world A. W. Exley’s created. I devoured the series because I had to know what happened next.
Not to say this subject hasn’t been done before, but this story takes some interesting detours along the up that catch your attention, and to say the characters are colorful is an understatement. I was hooked with the hot-air balloons and submarines with pirates, and heroes; think Jules Verne with a Clive Cussler update, and maybe a touch of Ian Fleming as well.
There is quite a bit of jumping around, both with the characters and their locations. The number of different characters build and divide the settings, so that locations vary away from the usual mid-East archaeological dig settings to Paris, and Rome and other of ancient attractions.
I liked it and read it from beginning to end. I don’t think that there is any risk of disappointment as long as you’re reading for the fun of it. It’s not literary greatness here, but I enjoyed following along from one story-line to another.
I give the story a with a grade of B+
Fun steampunk series set in Victorian London.
Love this whole series!
Probably good if you’re into steam punk. Unfortunately, I’m not. Couldn’t get past the detailed descriptions of mechanical things, leather, rings, furniture. I put it down and moved on.
Fun and romantic fantasy. Great for escaping reality and just being entertained. Great character development and interesting story lines.
Enjoyable
These books were much better than the blips indicated. I powered through all 4 and wish there were more.
Very enjoyable and a good read.
pretty cool series.
Almost finished. Great read
I enjoyed the characters and the stories. Original, witty and steamy.
Steampunk meets romance meets infernal artifacts. Love it!
I loved these books. The main character is a strong woman and I love her independence. I like the magical side of the artifacts.
Good story line. Didn’t care for bad language.
Love this series!
Claims to be a rollicking steampunk adventure and mystery. Is instead “boy rescues impetuous girl who comes to like him despite his roughness” romance, which is something I despise.
These books provide a new take on an old setting, and involve characters who are more than 2 dimensional.
