Texas Hustle by Cynthia D’Alba is book 6 in the Texas Montgomery Maverick series. The story begins with Porchia Summers whose good life in Whispering Springs, Texas is disrupted by a dark past. Disturbed by the threat, she outbids in a bachelor auction and wins a cowboy. She accompanies him on a 10-day camping. Darren Montgomery, on the other hand, has had his eyes on the town’s sexy, sweet baker for quite a while, but she declines citing that she is too old for him. Now her sudden interest in him makes him a tab suspicious. Still he takes the opportunity to win her heart. Sometimes, camping isn’t just camping. It’s survival.
Porchia and Darren are delightful and believable characters, and the Montgomerys are wonderful supporting characters with a strong family bond. Cynthia D’Alba mixes suspense, childhood indiscretions, parental issues, and enough chemistry to start a forest fire to the story. I had the pleasure to meet Cynthia D’Alba in person and selected Texas Hustle among many of her books at a recent book signing convention.
Porchia’s bakery is a popular place in town, but on this day she gets a very unpleasant surprise. Her ex from many years ago wants retribution for having spent years in jail. She needs time to think about how to deal with this problem. The solution comes in an unusual way at the bachelor auction.
Saving Darren from Sarah Grace was Porchia’s pleasure, even though she feels she’s too old for Darren.
Camping with the entire Montgomery clan turns out to be a chaotic, fun, romantic, drama filled time with many surprises. Darren and Porchia are so great together and they are definitely steamy.
Of course there is also Porchia’s problem that rears it’s ugly head in a very traumatic way and her family issues lend some drama.
This is a book that you won’t be able to put down, just wondering what could possibly happen next.
Porchia has made a home for herself in Texas away from her unforgiving family. She is happy with the friends she has made and the bakery she owns. She has also attracted the attention of one hot cowboy.
Darren has been interested in Porchia since he first met her however she has friend zoned him. One bachelor auction and everything changes. Porchia bets on a date with Darren which ends up being camping his his extended family.
I loved the whole Montgomery family in this book. All the surprised and happy endings that happened in this book. I just couldn’t believe how cold Porchia’s family was. My only surprise was after spending all that time with the Montgomery family why would she want to reconnect with her family?
The danger with Slade kept me on the edge of my seat wondering when he was going to strike.
They just keep coming and these hot Montgomery men are something else! Porchia is in Whispering Springs living a quiet life until someone in her past catches up to her. Darren Montgomery wants her bad and she keeps telling him no thanks. Until she buys a date with him at a local charity auction. A week camping with his family should be long enough for her past to go away. I have to say, I like their idea of camping – in cabins with running water, fireplaces, bathtubs – just my style!
But it does catch up with her and those darn guys come to the rescue, actually the whole town does and that’s just what little towns do! Love this one even more than the rest it seems! Keep them coming!
Again this story pulls you in from the start just like the others in the series. A well written and perfectly paced story with enough action to keep your interest. This one is about Porchia and Darren and the struggles it takes to get to their happy places. You cannot go wrong with the Montgomery family involved.
Texas Hustle is a book filled of fun, humor as two people finding their way to love overcoming issues of age gap and a ex who wants revenge. I wouldn’t call him an ex but someone she wanted as a boyfriend, everyone wanted him and for one night she got her wish which changed her life forever. I totally enjoyed this plot of winning Darren in an auction in hopes of putting off her ex until she could work out what to do about him. Things do not go as planned in keeping Darren at arms link as the author heats of the pages filling them with passion.
Darren is clueless he has been attracted to Porchia since he first laid eyes on her. He has flirted and has done his best to pull her into his web. Nothing seems to work, he has one week to change all this as he romances her the only way he knows how. Darren is a wonderful character any women would be happy to call hers. He is strong, caring and loving. Nothing comes before family or the women he loves. You have to love his humor and his moves as he takes on the world to keep Porchia safe.
Porchia is a sweet woman who has never had a loving family. When she sees how Darren’s family acts she is floored she had no idea that families acted this way. As she is pulled into their lives she must remember not to get to close for danger is around every corner. Her family is truly something as I feel you will make up your own mind as to how each reader will feel about her parents. I can’t say I cared to much for them but by the end of the book I like her father a little more. I really loved Porchia and could really relate to her and her issues. It is heartbreaking to lose everything with one night and one mistake but to have that mistake come back and bite you is horrible for such a wonderful sweet lady.
The author gives you wonderful supporting characters that will keep you laughing with all they do. I can’t say the ex was even close to being a favorite character as he added thrills and a few chills to the read. I just love small towns where everyone helps everyone. The fall back is they know everything that goes on. It is hard to get away with anything but as the chips fall they usually stand beside you and help you along. The author gives you a very believable story which is filled with heartbreak and hope. As always Ms. D’Alba pulls her readers in with a winning plot that keeps you turning the pages. She burns up the pages full of very hot nights of passion as these two pull on your heart strings. Running from you past is never a good thing it always comes back to haunt you as this author reminds us. There was nothing I didn’t like about this read. Ms. D’Alba has another winner on her hands. I chuckled and laughed my way through this at times my heart was in my throat hoping for the best but expecting the worse. This was a very well written and thought out read as the author takes you on a compelling story of facing your past, trying to overcome it as you take your life back and grow to become the person you want to be. This is a book everyone will love, I recommend anything by this author she knows how to entertain her readers. You will not want to miss “Texas Hustle”
