Hailey Tate thought she was worth more than a straight flush.
Apparently not.
When camera-shy author Hailey Tate’s agent loses a bet and brokers a deal, it leaves Hailey in the last place she wants to be: backed into the corner of Publicity and Paparazzi. Now, thanks to her girl-next-door image and role as pretend girlfriend to a womanizing shortstop, she’s getting the attention she always … attention she always managed to avoid.
Connor Ryan is not only America’s Sexiest Athlete, he’s also the current Bad Boy of Baseball. But when he goes a base too far, management wants to bench him…permanently. One thing he never counted on? Falling for his sweet, fake girlfriend. He’s the guy who can catch anything and now she’s next on his list.

Nothing says summer like the boys of baseball and Connor Ryan is THE one to watch. Mr. America’s Sexiest Athlete has just run through his allotted number of screw ups with his team’s owners when his agent comes to the rescue.
It’s nothing a little blackmail can’t fix!
Hailey isn’t exactly a fan. She’s got her own stuff going on and is more of a “behind the scenes” girl looking to write her books and be left alone in her own little world.
When they’re forced to “date” for a month, neither of them sees a “win” in this game. But, as hate turns to something else, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s the deal.
If you’re looking for a clean romance with a witty heroine and a sporty hero, pick this up. You won’t put it down until the last page.
I love this whole series, but this one is my favorite. Fake relationship with a famous guy? Yes, please! Bria’s writing is deliciously witty, funny, and charming.
LOVED this fun, sweet, engaging read by Bria Quinlan!!
This book was the best kind of fake romance story. Hailey is picked to improve Connor’s reputation. As a sweet YA writer, she is supposed to date Conner for 30 days. Love the way Connor moves slowly but steadily. Their dates and discussions are fun! No sex — just fun romance!
I really enjoyed reading this book!
Enjoyable read. Laughed out loud. Love the characters.
Loved the book.
Loved the fake relationship between two people who hate each other, really gets the sparks flying as they banter! Great read and character development. Sweet heartfelt story.
Hailey Tate, author of pre-teen books, hates dealing with media or the spotlight. She is perfectly content to live her somewhat boring life enjoying the quiet of her routine and the friendship of those closest to her. When her agent loses her in a bet due to her “girl next door” image, however, Hailey’s thrown into the limelight in ways she never could have imagined.
Connor Ryan needs an image upgrade. He’s the Bay Boy of Baseball and known as America’s Sexiest Athlete. But some poor decisions and rotten luck have his popularity falling in certain demographics and his team and sponsors aren’t happy. He needs the perfect “good girl” girlfriend to play the part to help his image rebound.
Hailey is definitely not what Connor expected when he first sees her, and he comes off as beyond rude and refuses to even consider working with her, which suits Hailey just fine since she wants absolutely nothing to do with the deal her agent made . . . especially since she can’t see how it would benefit her at all. Connor realizes Hailey really may be his last chance, however, and offers to help her deal with the spotlight as long as she can play the part of doting girlfriend for a month. Neither expected to like one another or become friends. And, they never thought there was any chance of falling in love . . . .
I have to admit, when I first started reading this book, I thought everyone was fairly hard on Hailey just because looking and dressing like a model was not her top priority. I was totally prepared to not like her agent or Connor because they both seemed so shallow and really fed into Hailey’s self esteem issues. However, I am so glad I kept reading. Connor definitely grew on me. Once you see past the image he tries to project, you see he is really a sweet and romantic man man and really a good guy, especially to his fans and those he cares about. I loved watching Connor and Hailey’s trust and friendship develop. Hailey definitely brought out Connor’s protective urges and it was really fun watching him interact with her close knit group of friends.
The Catching Kind ended up being a wonderful surprise of a book. I was really expecting just another sports romance between a bad boy athlete and the girl next door and instead was treated with a book that had beautifully complex and in depth characters and a plot that kept me entertained throughout between the character development, banter between Hailey and Connor, and their relationship ups and downs. I readily admit I bought the follow-up book in this series so I can see what the author has in store next for Hailey and Connor! 4.5 stars
She’s out of her depth and likely to be the worst-fake-girlfriend ever.
How is it that one day, terminally shy, and successful author, Hailey Tate is taken from her quiet anonymous existence, and thrown into a fake relationship with the notorious and womanising bad boy of baseball? The one who’d rudely insulted her appearance in the lift on the way to the office, and is even now refusing to believe that he would ever date anyone like her, fake relationship or not!
The APC, otherwise known as the Agent Poker Collective, is how it happened. Bria’s agent lost Bria in a game of cards, to Connor’s agent who wants Bria’s good name as the girlfriend attached to his client.
Connor’s reputation is in tatters. The latest scandal has everyone looking to get him off the team, and he has to agree to this latest arrangement, or he could lose everything. Trouble is, Hailey is nothing like his usual type. She’s not tall, gorgeous, and at least, ‘famous’. Well, not until people realise that she writes the sought after books that young women in the 16 – 26 age group love reading. And that is exactly the demographic that Connor’s agent is desperate to regain the following of!
This arrangement will improve both of their public profiles – if they can make it work, and if Hailey can find her feet in public.
I absolutely enjoyed this sweet and romantic story, that is also a witty and clever rom-com. It was also a relaxing fun read that has a happily for now ending, and even though I generally like to read the steamier kind of books, I am compelled to go get the next one – The Proposing Kind. 4 Stars for a brilliant and fun clean read.
