[ Reprint ] On the mountain, the watcher seeks out evil women. And then they die.
Two years ago, when Jake Hunt uncollared his slave, she committed suicide. Guilt-ridden, he will commit to a woman for one night only, devoting his energy to a mountain lodge that caters to a BDSM crowd.
Kallie Masterson is tough. Unwanted as a child, she worked hard to become a wilderness guide. She’s proud of … guide. She’s proud of who she is, and hurt that Jake frowns on her for acting like a man.
After rescuing the macho guide from a bar fight, Jake is stunned that the ugly men’s clothing hides a warm, responsive woman. A submissive woman. When guide business brings her to the lodge on BDSM night, and she is obviously aroused by the play, Jake takes the little sub right into his world of pain and pleasure. He warns her: one-night-only. But she responds so beautifully–so joyously–under his command, that one night soon becomes two, then three…
Then a missing hiker reminds Jake of his past lover, and he realizes he’s become too involved. He pulls back.
Meanwhile, the watcher on the mountain has rendered his verdict: Kallie Masterson is evil. The sentence: Death.

Book okay, but for a whodunnit, it was weak…
I think I was expecting so much more but got a repeat of an intro to BDSM for newbies. So that meant a repeat of Book #1. A lot of angst and a ton of despair from past experience on behalf of the heroine. I thought that for a 213-page novel, I should have liked it. Having read the next novel prior to writing this review, I think this book did a better job introducing me to the next dom (Book #4 — Master of the Dark Side).
I did like the characters, especially Jake. I definitely liked him better than Kallie whom I kept mental-yelling “GET OVER IT!”. So tired of her mental whining, especially after the Great Reveal at the end. What a waste of emotional and physical time.
I had issues with the editing. Too many wrong words that would not be caught by a spellchecker. That tells me no one did a verbal read-through to catch such issues. Makes me question who actually did do the editing. If I was the writer, I would have asked for my money back. I mean, the writer IS talented, but not all writers make good editors. Wonder if the editor was too busy doing other things… There were some research problems but nothing that kept me from enjoying what I did enjoy. I just could have done with less sex. There needs to be a balance.

Master of the Abyss
By: Cherise Sinclair
Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
I love a tastefully written, hot and passionate book with a story that has some grit to it. Cherise Sinclair is the master of this kind of writing. Always a strong, alpha dom, a matching heroine, but what I find the most intriguing is her stories and how they get to where they are. This one lets us get to know Jake Hunt. We first met him in Logan’s story, and now we get to hear his. He is a man, not interested in a relationship after a woman he uncollared committed suicide. Kallie is a a wilderness guide with the Masterson family, trying to learn her place in life. Now in the eye of Jake, her longtime crush, things heat up. We learn a lot about Jake, his past and how it effected then, now and how Kallie learns to help him through. With her own demons, this story has a little of everything, including the steamy erotica Sinclair is known for.
Narrated by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, you will love this story. Their chemistry flows through the story as we hear Kallie and Jake’s relationship grow. I love their performances and look forward to the next in the series.

Love the outdoors, love this! Tasteful errotic adventures
Loved this book . Great author, I couldn’t put this book down. I read
Every book in this series.
Master of the Abyss gives us Jake Hunt’s story. We’d met Jake in the first book which was his brother Logan’s book. Jake was a strong presence in that book and his love and support to his brother who was suffering from PTSD make you fall in love with him and want to get to know him better.
Jake is a kind hearted man who would do anything for family and friends. But he suffers from guilt of the suicide of the women he uncollared and let go years ago. Due to this he will not be with a woman more than 1 night. Jake is taken by surprise when a woman he has known for years but dresses and act more like a man than a woman suddenly catches his attention.
Kallie Masterson grew up with a tough uncle and 3 male cousins. Due to being pushed from family to family after the desertion of her father and the death of her mother she feels like no one loves her and decides the best way to fit into her new family is to become one of the guys. She is a wilderness guide in the family run business. When the Hunt’s and Masterson’s decide they want to combine their businesses this puts her in close proximity to Jake who she has had a crush on for years.
Jake waste no time in getting Kallie to submit to him but he makes it clear it’s a onetime thing. Well onetime thing that happens more than once . These two had issues for sure and it was amazing to watch the other help the other one face them throughout the story.
There was a bit a suspense in this one from a person that watched the town folks and decided that women were evil and needed to be punished. This brought a bit of a twist to the story that was interesting.
