The seductive and stunning #1 New York Times bestselling sequel to Sarah J. Maas’s spellbinding A Court of Thorns and Roses.Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. … lives of Tamlin and his people.
As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world in turmoil.
Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her dazzling, sexy, action-packed series to new heights.

A Court of Mist and Fury” the second novel in the exciting “A Court of Thorns and Roses” fantasy series opens three months after Feyre’s trials and tribulations “Under the Mountain” saving Tamlin’s people and returning his power to him. With a human heart and an immortal body, she has the powers of the the High Lords but has been traumatized and broken by the experience leaning on Tamlin and his childhood friend Ianthe, a High Priestess for advice and support. But Tamlin has his own terrors to overcome, one of which is his obsession that Feyre will be stripped from his side especially when her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court means leaving him for a week once a month.
Coddling her, wrapping her up like a present and stripping her of her indomitable will while treating her like a prisoner in the Spring Court, Feyre escapes with the help of Morrigan to Velaris where Rhys warns her about the war looming and together they begin an adventure that has them working together to “harness her gifts, heal her fractured soul” and to stop the impending chaos that threatens not only Prythian but the human world beyond the wall.
Sarah Maas skilfully creates a world filled with beauty and horror beyond a magical wall that separates humanity from Prythian, where Rhys sacrificed himself to keep his wondrous city of performing artists, culture and trade safe from Amarantha’s cruelty. Fast-paced the action never stops as the plot heats up when Feyre overprotected by Tamlin escapes her prison in the Spring Court to take up residence in Velaris where she learns of the King of Hybern’s campaign not only to take over Prythian but to tear down the wall and storm the human world. Cleverly the author builds intensity and suspense as they learn of the resurrection of the evil within “the Caulderon” and the “Book of Breathings” that can nullify its power, making plans to steal and decipher the code that could stop the devastation and bloodshed. As the story progresses there are graphic sex scenes and swearing that adds little to a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat as it twists and turns.
Sarah Maas is gifted with creating characters that are complex and compelling like Feyre whose broken and dark inside, filled with rage, grief and guilt having to kill for Amarantha to save Tamlin. Only when she’s given her independence back and regains her confidence and self-respect under Rhys mentoring does she become stronger and spirited again. Handsome dark-haired Rhysand who’s cocky, arrogant, cunning and strong contrasts dramatically with Tamlin who’s controlling, hot-tempered, self-absorbed and a stubborn protector because of his fear.
Like the characters Feyre’s love affairs with Tamlin then Rhys are beautifully crafted. As a human Feyre sacrifices herself to save Tamlin and his people who need her to help overcome Amarantha. Yet after becoming immortal she hates his dark obsession with protecting and owning her, never allowing her to train with Lucien, or to be an integral part of his plans for the future. In contrast Rhys treats her as an equal even when they clash or flirt, giving her the freedom to develop her power and become one of his trusted Inner Circle. As Rhys dreams of peace, freedom and of a world united and thriving, they not only fall in love, but she becomes a part of that vision as together they overcome their nightmares of the past and she regains a sense of self-worth as she harnesses her power.
I enjoyed “A Court of Mist and Fury” with its incredible world building, imaginative plot and compelling characters. I look forward to reading the 3rd book in this fascinating series.
My favorite book of all time
So much better than the first one! Loved Rhys!
Wonderful. The book might be considered slightly slow at the beginning because the main character was in an emotional bind that she couldn’t see a way out of. But wow! Love what happened.
I loved this book. I’d read a Court of Thorns and Roses quite a while ago and somehow moving on to this second book got buried in my “to read” pile. Wish I’d read it sooner! There are a lot of references to the first book that I’d forgotten about so now I want to read the first book again. The first one was engrossing and this one was even better! Sarah Moss is a good author and I will look up more of her books. Really got into this one.
I can’t say enough about this book. I don’t generally re-read books, but I have read either the entire book or parts of it over and over again. The beautiful darkness of this book stayed with me for days after reading it. Easily this authors best work.
I really enjoyed this entire series. Not my usual reading style, but it is highly enjoyable and the characters are engaging. Becoming a huge fan of Maas.
This book, along with the whole series, is the most well-written, action packed, romantic. I am in love with this book and I recommend it to everyone I talk to. Read this series and you will fall in love with the characters, plot, and see everything differently. The bar is certainly high to top this book
If you follow my reviews for a while now then there is a chance you read my review of A court of thorns and roses which clearly projects my dislike towards it, especially regarding Feyre character. It was partially the reason why I didn’t read the second book for so long. The other reason was the whole love-triangle concept other reviews suggested. Anyway when I’m in a reading slump I usually go on a fan art hunt to choose my next read and let’s be honest ACOMAF has some phenomenal fan art to choose from and this December I finally gave in and read it.
This book exceeded my every expectations and give me such a reading hype that I’m still reeling from it. ACOMAF is a stunning, vivid, magical and exceptional read the only drawback to it that you can’t read it without reading the first book. They kinda strongly connected. I loved every minute of this book and it quickly became my favorite from the author and since then reading the third book, I can safely say it’s the best in the series.
The plot has a beautiful and steady arc to it, and I especially liked how the author twisted the whole story up in a way to let the characters and the whole book take a completely different direction than they had in the first book without if feeling strange or abrupt. The character development and the little improvements regarding the world and the atmosphere are just incredible.
The storyline has it ups and downs, slower and more dynamic parts but all of so deliberately plotted and emotionally supported that all if it just works so well together. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star was because there was a couple of really slow, almost dragged out and overly detailed parts in the book that not only bored me but also felt out of place and I think the story could have done without them and it could have helped with the length of the book as well. Also I think the author either has to work on her sex scenes or leaving them out all together because most of the time they are flat, out of place and sometimes even cringe worthy. They are just not working.
Feyre- She was the one who went through the most noticeable changes. So much so that I loved her in this book. She broke out of her cage. She became a strong, fierce woman who started to stand up for herself. My favorite scenes in the book consisted of her fighting using her new found powers, those fight scenes are awesome, detailed and really exciting. I’m not too sure about her relationship with Rhysand, I like him and all, he is an interesting character he is just missing the edge and also I just don’t feel the fire between them.
Lucien- He was my fave character in ACOTAR but in this book he was the most disappointing. From the sneaky, cunning and flirty warrior he became the shadow of himself. Somebody who blindly followed the orders of Tamlin even when he knew they are wrong.
Tamlin- He pissed me off but in the beginning not because of his overbearing, protective behavior but because he let himself be led by the nose. He believed and followed everything that stupid, cunning and annoying Ianthe told him.
Azriel/Amren/Cassian/Morrigan- I absolutely loved the inner circle and the camaraderie they had between them . My personal favorite was Azriel but all of them had a unique personality that created a perfect blend of a family. I enjoyed their interactions, it was funny and warm.
I also liked that we got an insight into the other courts too and see more of the other fae, too. They all put something new to the story.
The sisters- They still annoy me with their attitude towards Feyre and I don’t think this is going to change.
This was a phenomenal experience and I was overblown by the ending. I read the third book immediately after finishing this one and I read the two books in 3 days. I think that’s big especially considering the length of them.
LOVE IT
This whole series is amazing! I am so glad I learned of it and have read it!
This is a book in a series it is well written I suggest reading the previous one
Loved it!
One of the best series I’ve read. Can’t wait for the next book
I enjoyed this book. I’m not sure, some of the other reviewers say this is listed as Young Adult (Y/A), I feel the series should not be anything younger than New Adult (N/A), as there is a lot of violence & some sexual scenes. I don’t feel the sex scenes are super erotic, but there’s enough stuff that it should not be read by very young readers.
This did start off pretty slow, slow enough to be almost boring. It did not pull me in right away, bad enough to almost enough to want to quit the book. It finally picked up speed (maybe around the 25% point), & kept increasing in speed, finally sucking me into the story to not be able to put it down & then it hits the end & I’m like “NOOOO” because of the cliff-hanger ending! Boy, if I had powers like Feyre, I’d be getting a lot of revenge! Rhysand sure was not what he seemed in book 1, & that was a nice surprise. By the end of this book, I was all for Rhysand & Feyre. I was not sure about Feyre & Tamlin’s relationship in book 1 to start with, it seemed based on sex or Tamlin’s obsessiveness/possessiveness of keeping Feyre for himself & not based on a real give & take type relationship, so I was not shocked to see the direction this book went. The over all plot had kept me guessing for the most part. Did not see it ending the way it did. I would suggest a reader stick with the book past the slow part at the beginning, since I did feel it improved enough to be worth reading, & enough for me to want to continue with the series.
I just… I don’t… How… WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?!? I CAN’T STOP TYPING IN ALL-CAPS BECAUSE I’M SO HYPED. MY BRAIN IS GONE. IS THIS REAL LIFE??? ME CAN’T WORD RIGHT.
~| THE GOOD |~
BEST. SEQUEL. EVER. Like, SERIOUSLY.
I loved everything. EVERYTHING. I loved that Feyre struggled with the events that happened in the last book because it felt so real and genuine. A lot of other books just move on to the next thing without consequence and that’s not how life works. Seeing Feyre in the grips of PTSD and depression, but then having the courage to stand up strong was SO INSPIRING. Ugh, that scene with the Weaver??? OMG. THE BEST.
“I was strong. I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again. I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.”
And seeing Rhys with her was amazing to watch too and it was so fun seeing him slowly open up. The slow burn of their relationship in the this book GIVES ME LIFE. I just… I LOVE FEYSAND SO MUCH. *Weeps*
Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE all the bad ass ladies!! Feyre, Mor, and Amren are SO AWESOME. Seeing them strong and fighting with their cool powers was THE BEST. I cannot WAIT to see Nesta join the mix because it’s gonna be fierce.
~| FINAL WORD |~
THIS. BOOK. WAS. AMAZING. Better than the first and I didn’t even think that was possible. Now I really wanna reread the first one again knowing what I know now. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT ALL. I NEED MORE MORE MORE MORE.
I read this series because I enjoyed the Throne of Glass series so much. It did not disappoint! Much like the Throne of Glass series, the first book is slow compared to the rest of the series. However, they are all great books! You will not be able to put them down!
Love love love it
So when I read the first book A Court of Thorn and Roses, I thought it was great. Now that I have read A Court of Mist and Fury, well… let’s just say I loved it even more. Not sure how she did it but she lured me in deep and kept me there not wanting to surface from the paper pages. What an amazing story. Any one who loves fantasy, magic, romance mixed into a pot of dark goodness then I must insist that you pick this book up.
Eagerly awaiting the next… come on May!
I am obsessed!!! I love this series so much I always re read it every few months <3
