From internationally bestselling author R.K. Lilley comes a scorching new series with melt-the-pages tension and all-consuming angst. It’s love, it’s war and it’s Scarlett and Dante’s story.
Scarlett
It was the kind of relationship where I invested more than I had to spare.
I gave it everything.
And so when it failed, I lost myself.
It changed me. He changed me.
I went down with the ship.
My … me.
I went down with the ship.
My soul, burnt embers in the aftermath.
The fire of him ravaged it all.
He burned me.
Broke me.
Scarlett had always dreamed big. She was headed straight for Hollywood. Destined for silver screen greatness.
But in her wildest dreams she never imagined she’d be broke and single at twenty-seven, doling drinks at thirty-five thousand feet.
She was a glorified waitress in the skies.
It had been years since she’d seen him.
But one day, there he sat, gazing intently at her, ready to set everything ablaze once more.
Dante wanted her. Again.
Sure, she’d play along…but this time, it was his turn.
She was breaking him.
After all, love is war.

It’s heartbreaking, to say the least. I think Rebecca awakened her Domme Alter Ego to torture and whip our souls. She manages to not only stab our hearts, but i believe, takes perverse pleasure in twisting the knife too……like a rotisserie!
The story is set amidst hostile environment. You’re dropped right into the middle of a war with no parachute and expected to deduce where the bullets are flying from and why!
There’s a long war going on between Dante Durant and Scarlett Theroux, with almost daily battles thrown in for shits & giggles. Their encounters are nothing short of explosions in a volcano. They spit fire, use sarcastic jabs, wound, scar and retreat, enough to come back at it again to burning kisses and volcanic passions
Dante sought me out, confronted me, we each got in our blows and limped away. I usually spat the last word at his retreating back.
Scarlett is a trashcan child, forever bullied and abused and her insecurity and anger is like a Himalayan chip on her shoulder. She pushes for the fear of abandonment. Brimming with rage and latent hostility, Actually cut that.. PURE hostility. She uses every trick in the book to poke, lure, needle Dante for a reaction, then feeds off of it. Her bottomless heart is never sated cause she’s NOT LOOKING for closure. His discomfort and pain somehow satisfies her vengeful heart.
“I hate you,” I told him, quietly and vehemently.
“I hate that I still love you.” Just as quiet, just as vehement.
Far more destructive.
Dante has had enough, done enough and endured enough dealing with her bad attitude & temper!! I dunno why he was names so, cause he had the patience of a saint!. He’s battle weary, just need stop let his head rest on Scarlett’s shoulder and get a moment’s respite
My shredded heart had been wrapped up in spite for a very long time, wrapped so long and so tight that it was suffocating, and it was almost a relief sometimes to let it vent. But how much of your life can you devote to spite?
Their love is toxic and poisoned, infecting both of them with venom that has no antidote
The story is slow paced. In the sense that nothing much happens and it doesn’t tell us why the war started, what happened and what it leads to.
What happens when two people of terrible pride fall for each other?
Terrible things.
Destruction.
Chaos.
Pain.
Sorrow.
War.
It just tells you what’s happening while they’re all stuck frozen in hellfire limbo,
BUT the writing is outstanding. Rebecca has a mighty pen and a sadistic heart, together a lethal weapon to drive readers crazy.
That’s what I was…crazy with frustration. I wanted to shake some sense in the characters. Slap some of them (read Scar) and throatpunch ALL of them, most of the time.
Needless to say Rebecca has succeeded in getting extreme reactions from her readers.
I’m immediately jumping in book 2 and will keep you posted !!
4.5 stars for Heavy Hitters
This is the best love-hate relationship book I’ve read to date.
Scarlett and Dante — two people that come from two very different worlds. One comes from the wrong side of the tracks. One is rich and one is dirt poor. But they both have similar personalities and they seem to somehow get along just great once they become friends.
Scarlett has an explosive personality, she’s very jealous and insecure and due to that, I think she lost Dante somewhere down the line. Dante also is a very possessive and jealous guy who doesn’t want anyone talking let alone looking at Scarlett.
These two have such an explosive relationship. They get along one minute and hate each other the next.
But what brought them utterly close was Dante’s grandma. She was really the sweetest old lady and she would go out of her way for these two kids.
I absolutely loved getting the past and present intertwined in the book because we not only get what’s going on as their grown-ups but also when they were children and how their relationship evolved.
I didn’t want this book to end, I wanted the answers that were left hanging at the end and now I’m going to jump into Breaking Her because I just have to find out what exactly happened between these two.
Dante’s mysteriousness is what’s bugging me because I need to connect the puzzle, why he did what he did and made Scarlett hate him to death.
I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book! I absolutely loved the love-hate relationship between these two.
This was definitely a page turner, a book that will leave you completely and utterly in angst to find out more!!
5 BREAKING STARS!!
