Autumn Chase is painfully aware grief is a beast that won’t be chased off before it’s ready to leave. When an icy road and a dark night leave her a young widow, she’s forced to trade in her perfectly planned future for the unknown. Like a child hiding from a monster, she pulls her covers up over her head with the intention of sheltering herself forever. But once an unexpected stranger shows up … up on her doorstep, Autumn has to choose between being alone or connecting with someone who is hurting as badly as she is.
Noah Key, an emergency room doctor, has solemnly informed countless families that their loved one could not be saved. However, when his own wife dies suddenly there are no words to bring him comfort. His in-laws want him to fall to pieces to confirm his love for his late wife. His colleagues want him to take time off to grieve. The only thing Noah wants is to work enough hours in the day to forget his wife is gone. He’s written himself a prescription for a cocktail of distraction and exhaustion in order to trick his brain into thinking his life isn’t in shambles.
When the world keeps moving on without them, Noah and Autumn will need to decide if they’ll survive the storm or allow themselves to be swept away by it.

Not too developed
Strong and emotional story about how people handle grief in different ways. The ending was a little disappointing or I might have given it five stars.
The lives of two people intersect at the scene of an accident one slippery New Year’s Eve. Neither one is coping well with the loss of their spouse, one has cocooned herself in her house, unwilling to go out in the world, the other has buried himself in work. This story is a great portrayal of how the most unlikely people help us in our storms. It’s a quick, easy read, not always enjoyable, but still, good.
First book I’ve read of this author was a really good book I’ll be looking for her now to find more books.
Wonderful book. I couldn’t put it down!
Read this book if your’re interested in how some people react to the death of a close loved one. As for me, I thought it was way over-the-top emotional sickness. Yes, I understand individuals cope with sorrow in different ways (I’m a widow), but these people were so into themselves that it was hard to sympathize.
This book was good example of what grief looks like. Had a good ending.
I enjoyed this book & look forward to reading next one on this series.
