From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, J. Daniels.
Author’s Note: Sweet Obsession can be read as a standalone novel.
Everyone knows Brooke Wicks loves to have a good time.
She’s not interested in getting serious, settling down, or limiting herself to one man. So when she meets the sexy, irresistible Mason King, she sees another opportunity to let loose and go wild. But the … and go wild. But the gorgeous Aussie isn’t interested in just a quick fling with Brooke, and if she wants to get into his bed, she’s going to have to do it on his terms.
Loving fast and hard has always been Mason’s philosophy.
He doesn’t want a meaningless connection, he wants it all, and he wants it with Brooke. When she makes her one desire known—to hit it and quit it—Mason wages a plan to ensure Brooke keeps coming back for more. Or so he hopes.
Getting her attention was the easy part. Keeping it might be damn near impossible.
Sweet Obsession is where the Sweet Addiction series meets the Alabama Summer series.

When I read a J. Daniels book I usually get giddy, happy and a warm feeling inside. She always makes me feel something. And Sweet Obsession was no exception. This was one of those books. Just from reading the first chapter I was ecstatic. It was great to be back in her universe but also with her characters from the Alabama and Sweet Addiction/Possession series. I felt like I was part of the gang with all their shared history.
Holy crap I just thought Brooke was such a great lead character in this book. She’s also in the two books Sweet Addiction and Sweet Possession. I just loved her honesty about who she is and what she wants. She’s not interested in a relationship. It’s strictly sex for her. Doesn’t let anybody close. Except her sister Juls, their mutual friends Joey, his husband Billy and her employer Dylan. But Brooke’s demeanor changes, when the hot Aussie Mason shows up.
“We stand there for several minutes. My head never moves. His arms never leave me. It’s soothing, the constant pressure of his hold, and somehow it feels strangely familiar. Like he’s held me like this for years. Like I’ve known him my entire life, and in the moments when I’ve needed someone to be with me like this, it’s always been him”.
I don’t know what to say about Mason except that I love him. What a man! I could hear his accent through J. Daniels’ written words. Especially his “yeah” had me sold. He’s the totally opposite of Brooke. He’s not interested in a one night stand and wants/seeks a connection with a woman. Mason is very persistent when it comes to Brooke. She doesn’t get her way easily. He tries really hard to woo Brooke and shows her what romance and friendship is all about. I loved that whole courtship between the two of them.
When they finally get together sparks fly. Literally!! Their connection was so strong and their sex scenes spot on. Really hot and in their spirit. Free and fun.
Even though this book primarily is about Brooke and Mason, I loved how I got to know more about the other characters as well. They are just as important as the lead characters.
That’s why J. Daniels is such a damn good author. I’m invested in all of her characters and their stories. I want and need more. This book was just an appetizer and I can’t wait for what she cooks up next. Cause I’m not nearly satiated. I’m more obsessed and addicted.
I have loved this series and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Brooke’s story. I wanted to find out what kind of man would break her from her usually habits. I did have a hard time getting into this story. All the others I feel in love with right away. I’m glad I stuck it out…it definitely got better and finally dragged me in. I love that all the friends are woven into this story and not forgotten. Looking forward to Sweet Love~next book in the series.
4 Star Review Sweet Obsession (Sweet Addiction #3) by J Daniels
AUDIO REVIEW
J Daniels is a relatively new author to me. This is the third and final book I the series. I have listened to narrators J.F.Harding and Holly Chandler before and their performance, particularly J.F.Harding’s was entertaining.
This story was like a roller coaster with the heroine Brooke Wicks who was all over the place and at times I got a tad confused although I did like the hero, Mason King. There was plenty of steamy moments but at times I felt the story line lacked substance, but then that is just my opinion.
I absolutely loved this book! I seriously could not put it it down. Then again, I felt the same about the entire series. If you’re into romance and a bit of steam I definitely recommend this book and the others in the series!
This is the first book I’ve read from J. Daniels so I don’t have the same background information on characters and story lines that most of the reviewers do. However, I didn’t feel lost in the story or like I was missing anything. The book is fine as a stand alone. Brooke’s character is a little off-putting with her forward attitude. However, she does redeem herself slightly as she sort of “grows” throughout the story in the book. She becomes a better person for herself, Mason and her business.
Everyone needs their story told except…..
Brooke and Mason. You know there’s a character in each story or series that you think they really don’t need a book written about them that would be Brooke and Mason. I read the reviews and thought wow it can’t possibly be that bad. From some readers saying she’s a “whore “ and “ he should just leave her”, but what I can’t seem to figure out is how anyone could like Brooke or Mason. Their story is so convoluted and expeditious that I honestly can’t tell you what these two characters could possibly offer the readers. Mason at first showed promise but then I realize what reason does he have to want more with Brooke. It’s never mentioned like oh my lord the most beautiful woman I have ever seen or I love everything about her and I think she’s the one. No he decides out of nowhere and off the bat that he wants more when all she wanted was sex one and done. Then there’s Brooke who does nothing but work, hang out with friends, curse like a sailor, cry like a baby, have sex, think about sex, and act immaturely. Usually with characters such herself there’s a reason behind her inability to get close and just have a good time. There’s no apparent reason at all. She doesn’t give a clear understanding of who she is even when Mason clears the debris. Then don’t get me started on the sex. Every other page was some form of sex, thinking of sex, oral, petting and anything in between. I thought this book would make me laugh but it was just bad. A NA romance/ Contemporary romance not really more like erotic romance. No prude here but when an author uses sex scenes to replace substance in a book why write the book in the first place. It was like reading about a cheesy porno. Good thing it was free.
This is a clever, fun read.
It took me some time to finish this book, not because it wasn’t a good book, but because I just had a lot going on while I was reading it. I have not read any other books in this series but it does read as a standalone book. I am a little torn on this book because while I love Mason, I wasn’t always a fan of Brooke. For me, she did come on a little too strong, with the whole all I want is sex bit. Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but there was an insinuation that she was sleeping with different guys every few days and I just felt that her character deserved more than that. I wouldn’t have liked that if it were Mason doing that so I didn’t like that she did. She didn’t appreciate it when she was called a whore or when she was made to feel like one, but for me, there’s a difference in a person enjoying sex and a person sleeping with all these different people all the time, and as a reader, I was made to believe that is how Brooke behaved and perhaps wasn’t all that selective in who she was with. I do hate saying that because I’m not a prude and hope it doesn’t come across that way, but that’s just my opinion! I do like the person Brooke became once she got to know Mason. The physical part of their relationship was still important to her, but she began to realize her worth and it wasn’t all about sex to her. I loved the way the two of them connected and how Mason stood his ground with her, despite how much he wanted her. The two of them definitely had chemistry! As a whole, the book was good and had I connected more with Brooke, I probably would’ve rated it higher. Still, I could see myself reading more from this author!
Brooke Wicks is just interested in sex, she is loud and does what she wants. She has set her sights on Mason King the Australian stud who opened the Hot Yoga Studio across the street from the bakery. Lots of Hot Sex, banter and crazy situations we expect from J Daniels- Fun read.
I am a huge fan of J. Daniels work. I was first introduced to her writing with her “Alabama Summer” series and this was another fun series to also enjoy.
Fantastic
“I want to be Mason’s Little Devil!”
I love this book so much and I’m so, so happy to say the audio version exceeded any expectations I may have had! The narration was perfection, J.F. and Holly did an incredible job!.
When I read this book I never expected to love Mason and Brooke as much as I did/do, but they became my favorite J Daniel’s couple- I didn’t think that would happen, I was team Ben all the way. Listening to their story come alive just made me love them even more.
The love Mason had for Brooke, (minus that one episode- bad Mason!) was just so swoonworthy- gah that man!
Brooke was such an awesome character, strong and confident but then completely thrown for a loop by Mason. It was fun, and a little heartbreaking, seeing her fall in love.
Cute, steamy, romance.
Loved it
I LOVED IT!!! The H and h were perfect together and there are some interesting secondary characters as well. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good romance novel!
Disappointing
I am not a prude but I almost didn’t get past the first sentence. The graphic opening was a bit much. Once i read on, i really enjoyed the story. The people in the story were funny and easy to like. It was a cute and quick read. This was my first book by this author. I may give another one a go.
Really liked Brooke. A women who knows what she likes and embraces her sexuality. Very liberated lady. Speaks very frankly, no games, just puts it out there. If you were a guy at the other end of her attention it would be a welcoming change of pace. A lot of witty exchanges between Brooke and her roomies, job mates, and of course her the object of her desire Mason. A book with a different pace, the lady leading the charge . . . well, most of the time anyway. Here’s 3 cheers for more Brookes in our lives.
did not like it.
Enjoyed the read.
