A Desperate Magic…
On Beltane eve, Mary Fallon Delaney steals to a castle ruin where her mother’s allegedly magical brooch has been hidden all these years, waiting for the right moment to summon “Ciaran of the Mist,” a mythical Celtic warrior promised to appear at the hour of Ireland’s greatest need. A legend to be sure, but Fallon is willing to try … willing to try anything to save Ireland from the marauding English. When she waits for the moonlight to work its magic with the brooch, a naked stranger stumbles out of the mist and she stares in disbelief.
A mysterious stranger…
As much as he insists he is no Celtic warrior from the fairy realm, this mad Irish beauty insists on calling him Ciaran. He knows nothing of his life before he stumbled out of the mist, his head gashed, and he has no intention of getting swept up in the clash between the Irish and the English. However, when Ciaran encounters the villainous Captain Lionel Redmayne, who is fascinated by Fallon, Ciaran finds himself caught up in Fallon’s world of rebellion, wishing he could be the hero she longs for.
A sacrifice foretold…
But whatever his identity, Ciaran knows how the story will end. He will walk into the mist alone— unless the passion he finds in Fallon’s arms is strong enough to ransom him from the secrets locked in his past. Yet does Fallon have the courage to love an all too flawed mortal when she’s spent a lifetime in love with a dream?

This book was entertaining but somewhat predictable. An easy read that had a happy ending!!
Kimberely Cates always tells a good story with great style.
spent pages reading what someone was thinking got quite annoying after a while
We know Ireland as the land of magic, but Mary Fallon Delaney truly believes the ancient myths and legends. So one Beltane night she takes the brooch passed down through generations of women and calls forth Ciaran, an ancient hero who can come to earth only once every three hundred years. Naked, with a serious head wound, Ciaran has absolutely no memory of his name, who he is, or where he’s come from. Fallon believes the stranger is truly the heroic Ciaran come to keep the British officer Captain Redmayne from destroying sites of ancient Irish culture. The entire plot evolves from this point. This book is wonderful, but the epilogue puts it over the top, making it one of my all-time favorite historical romances.
Ms Cates writing is vivid and colorful and spoke to my minds eye. I could envision each word as if I was there living it.
The characters were well written and drew you into the story. I learned about the fairied past of the Irish people. The Epilogue was especially helpful to understand the backstory
Welcome to the Irish world where belief in magic, spells, and magical people help ordinary people deal with the hardships of daily life. Or is the magic real? Find out as you follow a spirited young woman who is a true believer.
I like stories with fables and fairies
I loved this book and was so taken with the atmosphere and characters that I went right on to the sequel, “Briar Rose,” which I also loved. The epilogues are especially not to be missed. These books made me wish that the wonderful fairy stories and legends were part of my heritage too.
I hate the word “damp” used as this author uses it. That said…..I wish there was more story and less soft porn. This writer has a beautiful way with her characters as they observe, think, learn, grow and speak about themselves and their insights to other characters. Just too many wasted pages of romantic sex and not enough story line. Really, I think the author could write better things than this. She is talented enough to do more.
I liked the mystic element.
Loved the magic and I kept guessing to the very end.
Different but good
Charting
I almost didn’t want the reveal at the end but forgetting who one really is I find common among humans. Some good consistent character revealed even so in the protagonist. Dreams were encouraged which is generally good.
Nice twist at the end. Good fun filled read. Enjoyed it throughly.
Good read.
It was so boring it was hard to read. I usually like this author’s books but not this one. I literally made myself read it because I purchased it and I kept thinking it would get better. Story went no where and characters were just silly and boring.
