Things become very complicated for perfectionist Alyssa when she takes the game to a whole new level and winds up entangled in a sticky situation.
Budding actress Katherine stumbles upon what could be her big break, but finds out the hard way that she’s just a fish in a huge pond.
With powerful men and demanding careers, the Playgirls must change their game to succeed. It won’t be easy, or fun. Can these three young women finally let go of old ways or are their old habits destined to cause them problems every step of the way?

Alyssa is finally focused, but has that focus left a blind spot for her. Love is only a few feet away from her. Will Alyssa take notice and let passion and desire finally take flight?
Random sexual encounters are still the name of the game for Chelsea. While love is right there waiting for her to embrace it, she struggles with her insatiable appetite for one more fling. Giving in may mean giving up the only chance she has for an authentic relationship. Is she ready?
Can the Playgirls end their game and let love reign or have their games gone too far?

I’m not sure how to review this box set. I like the story, but I can’t stand the Playgirls! They are arrogant, spoiled and, for college students, their emotional growth and social skills are about equivalent to elementary school! With the intent of winning the contest of “catch and release,” each of the best friends, Katherine, Alyssa and Chelsea, try to get as many men as possible to pay attention to them, only to be released once they’ve outgrown their usefulness. Along the way, they learn a lot about themselves and it isn’t all a pretty picture. They have a few things in common, but the most obvious common thread is their insecurities and deep-seated feeling that they’re not good enough. “I have to be perfect” is another common threat among all three. Chelsea considers herself a cougar, since she’s just finishing her master’s degree, while her friends are all fourth year seniors. Her grades are perfect and she pressures herself to remain perfect. After all, her parents expect perfection from her in all ways. She isn’t happy with one man for very long and she firmly believes in “love the one you’re with.” Katherine wants to be an actress more than anything else in her life. She’s auditioning for the musical, Chicago, and is a natural talent on stage. Her attention is drawn to Ken, the sexy director and wants him to notice her right back. She’s done everything short of stripping on stage, so she resorts to trying to make him jealous by deeply kissing the student auditioning for the part of Billy Flynn. Needless to say, that confuses both men. She’s not giving up on Ken! Alyssa is the friend you love to hate. Even though she has a boyfriend who adores her, she feels the need to cheat and then blame it on him. Worse yet, her friends have the audacity to say he’s no good and don’t tell her when he calls.
Their contest to see who can catch and release the most men is in full swing when things start to go wrong. They begin to develop some feelings and a conscience that what they’re doing just isn’t right, but not as important as winning. After graduation, things start to change and the changes aren’t necessarily welcome. Now they’re not quite sure who’s right for them, especially since they’re starting to feel bad about what they’ve done or having their heart broken. Perhaps they’re finally growing up! To see how they find what makes them happy is part amusing but a bigger part sad. Self-realization is very tough for them, but all three do find a HEA. Theirs is a particularly attention-grabbing story that had me listening well into the night. Clarissa Carlyle writes books that have just enough angst and a whole lot of sexy in a satisfying combination. Laurie West does an excellent job with the narration that lets the personality of each character shine through!
The Playgirls, 3 girls in for fun and games. How many guys could they reel in , hook line and let go? It was a game to them throughout school, college and early twenties. They loved to party, tease, and flirt. Until the one day it wasn’t a game anymore. They started to grow up, mature. They each found out they played the game so much, they didn’t know what real love was. Until it was too late. They each caught and released the most important men they needed in their lives. The Playgirls had each other to lean on through it all.
I loved how Clarissa Carlyle told this story from beginning to end. She captured their fun, flirty side, but also their heartaches, sadness and despair.
Laurie West narration is phenomenal. I can’t praise her enough. She portrayed each character to perfection. I was gifted this by the author and offered my honest review
The Playgirls Boxed Set
Books 1, 2 and 3 in The Playgirls Series
By: Clarissa Carlyle
Narrated by: Laurie West
Join in the fun with the Playgirls! Three girls living it up in college together find out what it’s like to move into the real world and find their niche. From campus to apartments with hookups and boyfriends, and experience it all!
Book 1 is fun and flirty, the life of three friends in college enjoying their last year with their “catch and release” program. Katherine, Chelsea, and Alyssa all enjoy finding their newest flavor and then letting them go. But things are a little different in this last year. New acquaintances, old boyfriends and real feelings come into play and life isn’t as easy. But are the rewards worth it? This first book in the Playgirls series is how I remember college life for some. The parties and hookups, and different personalities all leading to excitement. The main thing I enjoyed about the listen is the real friendships the girls have and how they look out for each other.
Book 2 is the next phase of life for the Playgirls and is not at all what they expect. College was easy, things were paid for, no consequences for real life situations. Now the girls are out on their own and finding out things are more difficult than expected. Katherine made the choice not to go to New York with Ken, but finds her heart is still with him. She wants to make it on her own. Will she find her niche? Will new love come her way? Alyssa finds herself in a sticky situation. Finding out nothing is for free, she is faced with unexpected repercussions. And Chelsea has met her match in the exciting Antonio. I love their banter. The three girls all have some growing up to do. They need to learn to be independent and count on themselves. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but Clarissa Carlyle has the plans for these three. It’s life altering, exciting and a hard knocks class!
Books 3 the girls are settled into their professions, and they have had to grow up. Relationships are still rocky though, and is it because of the Playgirls mantra? Katherine is finding her need to start a family, Chelsea realizes what she has and Alyssa has found the one who loves her for herself. But will it be enough for these women? Success and love drive these three. Forever intertwined, they have learned from their mistakes and are bound for happiness whatever path they choose. I have loved their journeys. Each so different, each reaching for their goals and finding their loves.
Laurie West is amazing and her interpretation of this story is spot on. Each girl had their own voice, and with the nuances we could tell all the emotions. West continues to be one of my favorites.
