This is an awesome fast-paced story filled with action, danger and romance. The world building is incredible and the characters are vivid and superhuman. The storyline just draws you in as you join Hannah and Scott as they run for their lives and I loved it!
Gripping Page Turner
Fantastic world-building, characters you can connect with that take you on their journey with them. I couldn’t put it down. I loved it so much, I went straight from reading this book right into the next in the series, and look forward to future releases.
I highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who likes other worlds, with people who have superpowers and those that don’t. So of course the people with no powers or gifts are leery of the ones that do. Lots of action, twists and turns, and just an outright enjoyable read.
Blood Surfer is set in a a futuristic kingdom called Star Haven that has just banged supernatural powers so the Alternate humans with powers Called Alts ave either left or gone underground
Most Alts choose to move to a separate kingdom run by other Alts called Thunder City. The Alts in Thunder City are safe ad can live freely but they begin to hear rumors and see signs that Alts trapped in Star Haven that need rescuing. The world building is incredible and one of our MC’s Scott Grey appears to be an average human Until he falls out of a helicopter and is rescued and healed by an Alt Hannah Quinn, whose power is being a blood surfer (which means she can look inside your body and fix anything she sees wrong with it in a very short time).
Saving Scott was a bad idea that puts Hanna in danger his job is to hunt and kill Alts. But Hannah awakens his powers and Scott finds he isn’t human after all. Buckle up this is a fast pace richly woven world and plot with great characters I highly recommend it!
Debra Jess’ novel, “Blood Surfer” is a spectacular debut from a new female voice in the science fiction genre. Filled with well-developed characters, strong world building and a unique concept, I was captivated from the first action-paced page. The story of Hannah, an Alt (Enhanced human, like an X-Men character) and Scott, a human Alt hunter is exciting and dangerous. The more they pull away from each other, the more they are drawn back together to fight the corrupt world of Thunder City. Part romance, part-sci fi novel, this book also hearkens back to my favorite superhero comic books from Marvel. A solid story with intriguing questions. I’m looking forward to book two.
I liked this story about Hannah and Scott, two people with secrets who end up meeting and running for their lives. This futuristic world was a fun read with action, danger, enemies and two strangers who must learn to trust each other to survive. I found myself drawn in and reading to the end to see if they escape and how they do it. The characters were interesting and fun to like and hate. Just a good story.
The first book in the A Thunder City Novel series a well written story that kept me turning pages. It does end on a cliff-hanger. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An entertaining story filled with Superhero’s/Mutants (depending on how you look at them). The characters were well written and engaging and the story line kept me hooked from beginning to end. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

This was a pretty good super hero novel with all the action, intrigue suspense and a little romance thrown in. Waiting to see what’s in store for the next book.

Enjoyable read with good main characters and an interesting world in which supernaturals hide to survive. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
I’m glad I started BLOOD SURFER on my day off! Right from the first page, it sucked me in and I didn’t want to put it down. It’s a fantastic urban fantasy with a cool X-Men feel and great characters. Plus, there’s romance. If you like superheroes and are looking for something fresh and exciting, this is the novel for you. Highly recommended. (I’m certainly looking forward to the next novel set in the Thunder City universe).
Debra Jess builds wonderful worlds. You don’t have to be a fan of the paranormal genre to like this book. The action is lively and the romance steamy. But the characters have flaws they work on as they journey through the story. A great read on many levels.
The concept is an interesting one and while it is interesting it took a while to really get going
Some characters are frustrating and wholly dishonest with themselves for most of the story
I enjoyed it regardless and recommend
