Veronica Cason lives in a small apartment with no clear view of the sky. It’s uncertain which might crush her first: her debt or the buildings squeezed in so tight that they surround her like ominous sentinels. She can’t breathe in the city. Her success is a lie, and her debt is coming to collect her–unless someone else gets there first. When a stranger offers her a job at a … first.
When a stranger offers her a job at a ranch, it feels like salvation, but it could also mean her death if his motives aren’t pure. Which door has the tiger behind it? The claustrophobia of the city or ranch life under an open sky?

After the Pleasure House series,i needed more.
More of those dark beauties only Kitty can give me.
Lucky for me,i have a few…..so i can feed that need.
And after that teaser,i knew i had to start with Big Sky.
Veronica is slowly crumbling under the pressure.
Work,appearances,money…..until it all falls apart.
Just before she loses her job,she has a collision with a stranger.
He thinks he’s polite by holding the door open, she scoffs at the gesture.
After she loses her job, they meet again.
He offers her a job at his ranch, but she doesn’t trust strangers.
She just doesn’t get a choice at refusing……
Forcefully taken, she tries to fight him every step of the way.
But Luke isn’t fazed by her attempts at changing his mind, and instead goes ahead with his plan to make her see she’s his.
He doesn’t give her any choice, but to surrender to his will.
And to that of his ranch hands…..whenever he wants her to.
It soon becomes clear though, why he’s taken her.
She looks so much like his late wife, reminds him so much of her….
And he’s forcing her into that mold, making her like things she never thought she could.
Pushing her further and further down the rabbithole, until she can’t see any way out.
Except looking up at the big sky…..
Seeing Veronica’s struggles to first find a way to escape, and later find a way to obey,to surrender without completely losing herself……it was a painful journey.
But one that left a lasting impression, that will linger in my mind for a long time.
This excellent story is not for everyone. Which is a shame because it is a story that is worthy of multiple rereads.
At first it may seem as though merely very erotic, involve fetishes, be a dark capture tale & have an anti-H of no redeeming qualities whatsoever, BUT . . . .
I have reread this one numerous times because the relationship between Ronnie (h) & her captor Luke (anti-H) is actually (again IMO) more complicated than either one will admit: to themselves or anyone else.
I am admittedly, extremely open minded & accepting when it comes to book plots & I found this one to be fascinating. I keep rereading it & find a new perspective, a new way to look at the plot & characters each time. Which I think is the sign of a very, very well written book.
Many reviews focus on how Luke captures & ‘keeps’ Ronnie, how she is ‘used’ & the fetishes Luke subjects her to, yet Ronnie doesn’t really seem horrified by what is done to/with her. She may have an initial WTH reaction but then seems to be ambivalent or accepting.
And that to me, sums up Ronnie: she never really appears to deeply feel or want anything other than to feel ‘free’. She didn’t do anything constructive to fix the severe financial situation she put herself into & in fact was resolved to completely giving up. When she’s at Luke’s ranch she hopes he’ll release her yet she has absolutely nothing to go back to except the same problems in which she was drowning.
But Luke IS a decision maker, is definitive, is dominant & strict. And although he does put Ronnie through some intense & sometimes grueling situations, there are several small but bright rays of light that (to me) demonstrated Luke didn’t wish or mean Ronnie any true or lasting harm. To Luke, Ronnie was drifting aimlessly toward a waterfall & he reached out & prevented her plunge.
This story truly enthralled me (hence my multiple & eager rereads), intrigued me, made me think & ponder, & to me that IS the sign of an excellent book. It is dirty, sizzling, mind messing, depraved but utterly fascinating, mesmerizing & will suck you into the plot & characters not only to find out what happens but because the journey is superb.
It takes a stellar & deft touch to take a plot & characters like these & MAKE a reader care about them & the author does a superb job of it.
Is there a happy ending? Read it to find out BUT, read it again & again & I would be surprised if your opinion isn’t altered with each subsequent read. I know mine was. AND, I’ll be rereading this one again . . . .
Oh my, that was an interesting read, but oh so nasty good!!!
I wavered on this book but boy oh boy am I glad I did and didn’t pass this one up!
I loved this book, it was a true guilty pleasure to read Ronnie’s downfall into a wickedness that she knew wasn’t good but felt so right to her and those around her
This isn’t for the easily squeamish, but then again, no Kitty Thomas book is, so if you don’t understand the genre, you should stay away, but it you like to be drawn into some true nastiness, all in harmless fun of course, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book like I did!
Seriously steamy but as always from Kitty Thomas seriously twisted.
“What one fantasized about and what one was willing to actually do could be continents apart. Everybody knew that…”
Nhaughty V is handing out 5 Freaky as F**k Stars to Kitty Thomas’ Big Sky! First off, I’m ashamed that I had this book on my TBR pile for so long I forgot I hadn’t read it! Then saw it being discussed in a group, and I was like, WTF? I don’t remember that, so I dashed off and started reading…OMFG! Did that just happen? They did what? Is that a thing? Is it wrong it’s kinda hawt? Ok, enough fan girl blah blah blah! Let’s do this!
Veronica “Ronnie” Carson is all about material pleasures with no fucks given as to cost or the consequences for her spending extravaganzas! Finding herself friendless, homeless and destitute, she is “rescued” by a handsome stranger. And this version of “rescue” is a smexxy cowboy tying her up like she’s the grand prize at the local rodeo, and driving her out to his ranch to become his and his fellow ranch hands little “milk maid”. For reals! Apparently, milk does the body good!
No spoilers! Gonna leave you with the cu degras of dares…I triple dog dare ya to read this book! And let your freak flag fly proudly!
TWISTED Intriguing read!
A twisted intriguing read that I want to call a bit insane and also enjoyable. I’m assuming it was an early story by this author do to the writing it felt off I’m not sure the word I’m looking for is immature but it just didn’t give the feel of a story written by a person with a lot of life experience for this story to come across as believable which had me rolling my eyes but none the less I was still intrigued. An adult female with a chip on her shoulder that is extremely nieve. Ok then. Kidnapping yes with no desperate need to escape over a damnn pair of shoes. I would not give a crap about the damaged to my feet not to mention that it wasn’t even winter time. I’m not trying to pick this story apart because I did enjoy it just found it definitely not believable with a side of stupidity for the heroine Veronica also it never brought out any emotions like I was reading to read because the story was of interest to me and I had the time to read it. So yes it was worth reading but I definitely would not be going out of my way to be in a hurry to get it and when I do it darn well better be on sale.
This book left me in a whirlwind of emotions but it is wonderful and thought provoking. It’s the first erotica book I have read that including using a woman for breast milk who wasn’t pregnant or nursing. I was very sad and conflicted at the end, I wasn’t quite sure Ronnie was actually okay and happy and at peace with her situation. In that regard I’m imagining she is and life is good under that big sky. A must read!
