If you are a dark romance fan, this book is for you! Ricochet is an edge of your seat, thrill ride. It sucked me in and didn’t let me go until I turned the last page, and even then I will have a book hangover for weeks. It’s captivating, it’s sexy, it’s heart wrenching and it is full of surprises.
This was my first read by author, Keri Lake, and I assure you I will be following this series.
Dark and twisty romance doesn’t get much better than this!!!! I was sucked in, chewed up and spit back out, and I immediately wanted to do it all over again. I am kicking my own ass for letting this one languish in my kindle for so long. Don’t make the same mistake I did. If you have it, read it, NOW! If you don’t, get it and dive right in.
V for Vengeance or V for Vendetta. I don’t care how you want to class it or what you want to compare it to, Ricochet was freaking amazing! One night, Nick’s entire world was obliterated by the order of one man. He watched as his love was tortured and taken from him. He was left for dead. But he survived and lived for one purpose… revenge. He was determined to wipe the men who took from him from the face of the earth. He hid and he planned and he plucked them off, one by one. It all led up to his coup de grace, killing the man who orchestrated it all, and kidnapping his beloved wife was just one step. But what happens when he discovers that there’s no love lost between husband and wife?
I loved how the author illustrated Nick’s internal conflict. He was the good guy who had to do bad things in order to set things right. I also adored how compassionate she made Aubree so that she was able to see past his pain, his darkness, into the man not even he knew he could be. From captive to accomplice, this story defied realism, however, it made for an unbelievable book. Even with Aubree turning into the female equivalent of Rambo, I was still captivated by everything this story had to give.
There’s killing and mayhem. There’s passion and pain. There’s even a strange sort of love. With Ricochet, Keri Lake found a HUGE fan in me!
This was one of the best books l have ever read. The characters were perfect. I literally did not sleep, l could not put the book. The twist was crazy!!! What an amazing book. Everyone should read it. The prologue was narrated by the male on the cover of the book; just freaking brilliant. I didn’t want it to end.
Ricochet, by Keri Lake, has to be one of the most sexually and violently graphic books I have ever read and I loved it! Those times when reading wasn’t possible I yearned for my book. It is now on my list of all-time favorite novels.
Three years ago, Nick Ryder lost his beautiful wife and his young son. He lost everything!
Michael Culling, the ruthless Mayor of Detroit, issued the order to slaughter this family, yet Nick survived. Now he’s out for revenge.
An Eye For An Eye!
What better retribution than to kidnap they Mayor’s greatest treasure, his wife Aubree. However, not all is as it seems when Nick discovers Aubree has her own dark secrets and isn’t the perfect, devoted wife that she portrayed in public.
Well-developed, raw and captivating characters, a heart-wrenching, action-packed story filled with violence and passion makes “Ricochet” an unforgettable novel that will stay with me for a very long time.
Bravo Ms. Lake! You had me under your magnificent spell through this entire book. I look forward to reading your other novels.
This book gets a five-star rating for many reasons. The main one being it was hard to walk away from when I was forced to actually work. I’m a binge reader normally, but I was unable to do that this time. My reward for getting my work done was this book, a little here and there until I hit the point where I could no longer walk away, had to just keep reading—sleep be damn.
Take the warning Keri gives this book seriously. It is a darker romance that some may consider taboo or too much for them. It was brilliantly written and allowed me to immediately connect with the anti-hero Nick very quickly. The way she wrote Aubrey not only had me feeling for her but pushed me to look past her current situation. Later I was cheering for these two to find a way to make them work. There are no holes left unfinished and lots of unexpected twists and turns.
If you are ready to have your mind blown then you need to read Ricochet. I will be checking out more books by this author very soon.
The perfect dark romance that is action packed and keeps you begging for more. It’s the first book to a 4 book series but could also be a stand alone as well. I have read the entire series and I highly recommend it.
Looks like I’ve found another Keri Lake series to binge! I LOVED THIS BOOK! And that cover…I need to it on my book shelf!
I think it’s safe to say, I’ve come to the conclusion that Keri Lake can write ANYTHING that she puts her mind to. Everything from fantasy to contemporary romance, she can write it and she can write it well. She always brings her very own signature way of telling a story. There’s always an air of mystery, suspense, rawness, darkness and RICOCHET was loaded with all of that and then some. I will say, this book is NOT for the faint of heart though. Keri does not tiptoe around the more gory descriptive scenes and the abuse aspect of this story. So be warned, there could be possible triggers.
“Apart, we were nothing more than two broken halves, but together, our jagged edges fit perfectly, sealed into something whole again.” -Aubree
I can’t express how B R I L L I A N T this story was. How detailed, how developed, how precise. EVERYTHING was thought out and executed flawlessly. I can’t get over how Keri developed the characters and built the world up and how she had everything unfold in the end, I did NOT see it coming! I literally went back through the book with a “fine tooth comb” after finishing to see what minut details/hints that I missed (and there were many), but Keri excels at giving away her ultimate agenda without the reader catching it. That’s what I love about her stories, I am ALWAYS wondering. ALWAYS on the edge of my seat guessing. ALWAYS surprised. I will say it again…this story was FLAWLESS. By the end of the book, I had to pick my jaw up from the floor when everything came together. MIND BLOWING.
If you’re in the mood for an alpha male seeking revenge, Nick is the alpha for you. Keri will keep you glued to the pages with your mind trying to jump ahead to find out what will happen next. I could not devour this book fast enough and of course, as it is with all of Keri’s books, I’m left wanting more of this couple. This book was just SO DAMN GOOD!
5 “I’ll see you in the night” stars
This book was almost perfect to me. I loved the story, loved how personal we got to be with the characters, loved how imperfect and real they were. Always love a good Stockholm story. I didn’t love how visual and gruesome some scenes were however I think it was necessary for this story. And the author said she wasn’t going to tell us about their pain, she was going to show us. And boy did she. 4.5 stars, I just can’t round up to 5 and I’m not sure why, so 4 it is.
This is one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading it. One man’s need for revenge against those that killed his family takes him down and dark and violent path (and I mean violent) and has him kidnap the wife of his enemy. What he never expected was that she too had been living a life a hell and that together they may be each other’s salvation.
This book has some major twists in it that to me make it impossible to talk too much about as it would give away some major spoilers. Nick Ryder was a man set on vengeance and he executed those who had wrong him in the most brutal ways – his code was an eye for an eye. This book is full of every form of graphic violence you can imagine but it’s also about a man who doesn’t think he has a reason to live anymore and once he has exacted revenge on those who played a part is his families brutal deaths he himself wants to end his own life.
Aubree Culling is the wife of the man who has orchestrated the killings in Detroit of innocents to “clean up” his town. To the outside world it looks like she has the perfect marriage to the Mayor but behind closed doors the man is not only a killer but does the most sick and vile things to his wife. She has been waiting for years to find a way to escape him. When Nick kidnaps her part of her is grateful to be away from Michael but there is something about Nick that calls to her even when all he shows her at first is his rough side.
Even though this is a violent book its also the story of two people so broken that they instantly recognize the other as a soul mate of their grief. They are able to fill in the other that void that was left from years of living in pain.
If you like a dark and twisted story with a few shocking revelations along the way I recommend this book.
4.5 stars
Earlier this year I started reading Keri Lake and fell in love with the worlds she creates. Since there are still many older books I still have to read I decided to start with Ricochet and I loved it. Nick and Aubree were explosive together and I loved every moment of their interactions. Nick’s story broke my heart and I totally understood his desire for vengeance. Aubree’s story was in a different way heart breaking. Michael was a brutal husband but through it all she continued to fight and to get her freedom. I honestly never saw the twist coming and I had to reread the passage but once I thought about it alot of the story made sense. I loved the ending and the peace they found. I’m looking forward to book 2.
Thrilling, heart-stopping, sexy… Keri Lake always delivers!
A story that stays with you long after you finish it.
I would give this book 10 stars instead of the five. Loved this book, will probably read again in near future.
Typical garbage reading. If you get it free and need to waste time, go ahead.
Very dark but very compelling read. The setting—Detroit in modern day…a once-great city struggling with decay and myriad broken dreams—provides the basis for both the action and and understanding the author’s mindset when writing the story (per her notes ). A welcome break from the more conventional reads out there if you can handle the darkness.
Had to stay up to 11:00 on a Work night to finish it. Slow beginning may throw you off
WOW, WOW WOW!!! Love it, hated it ended.
