Kate and Curran are taking a rare break and enjoying a dinner in town. But their break doesn’t last for long. A necromancer dies, vampires are loose, and now they are racing to save a child.
This was a great novella with some pretty hilarious scenes. While it is serious because a boy’s life is at stake, the small moments of comedy really made the book great, especially the visiting Vikings scene.
Love the Kate Daniels series – she is my favorite type of heroine! This is a wonderful conclusion of the drama that has been building between her father and Kate throughout the series, but there is obviously room for future stories and exciting developments with other characters.
actually anything by the Husband and Wife team is entertaining,..and always original..Magic swamps the word in waves..when it hits, microwaves don’t work…but magic does..and your plumber just might be a werewolf
Magic Gifts takes place after Retribution Clause and at the same time as Gunmetal Magic. Curran invites Kate out to dinner and, as one might expect, things go kaflooey pretty quickly. This story has one of the few characters created by Ilona Andrews that I’ve actively despised because she knowingly and willingly put her young son’s life at risk, after her daughter was killed, all to keep her husband untouched. Kate and Curran have to figure out how to save the little boy’s life before it’s too late. One of the things they have to do is confront a draugr so they can find the person who made the thing that’s putting the boy’s life at risk. Even though this is a short story (about an hour or so to read), it’s just as action-packed and full of drama as one of the full-length books in the series. I will say that Karma does come around at the end of this story, which was very satisfying.
I thought this was going to be one of those short little stories that can be read within a few minutes. I thought it was going to be a fun look at a date night between Kate and Curran. I thought it was going to be a feel good, I’m done now let’s move on, kind of read. Holy heck! I wasn’t prepared!
This had so much more to it than I was expecting! The journey to help a small boy takes Kate and Curran into some harrowing situations. Which, yes, is usual. But I wasn’t expecting it this time! It also had some hilarious moments that had me laughing out loud as well as sweet moments between Kate and Curran. I loved the Vikings and would love more of them!
The ending was so completely satisfying, which we don’t always get in this series as at the end of each book we’re waiting for the next shoe to drop. I really enjoyed this step away from the Roland and Hugh situation to see this couple work together on something not directly related to Kate.
Read at the end of Gunmetal Magic
I really liked getting to see more of Kate & Curran working together 🙂 it was a add to the series.
Kate and Curran are just so awesome together and I always love the little moments when they get to take a break from the crazy ,which doesn’t last for long ,but when it does happen it’s so great, they are totally funny whenever they disagree about something .
Overall I liked this short peek into the life of Kate and Curran ,it was a sweet little story and it had some funny moments too.
So what were Kate and Curran doing during Gunmetal Magic? Well here it is in all it’s awesome Curran and Kate craziness! A marvelous, quick read!
The entire Kate Daniels series is fantastic. Among my absolute all-time favorites to read and even to re-read. Can’t recommend highly enough.
