An insane love that will keep you from falling—or push you right off the edge.
All she needed was a job…
The last thing twenty-four year old grad student Angie Roberts needs is to worry about her new boss’s father. After all, she’s never even seen him. He remains sequestered upstairs in a house that looks like it should be the main feature in an … the main feature in an episode of Hoarders. She had no idea the house was such a dump when she took the job. But she’s concerned about the safety and health of the old man living under such horrid conditions.
What she got was a mystery…
Despite warnings not to venture upstairs, she wanders up to the second floor. What she sees is shocking. The man she finds is a gorgeous, sexy, middle-aged man– and he’s stepping out of the shower. But something is definitely not right. Why would this wealthy, handsome man live in a house in such disrepair while his nine-teen year old son resides in a lavish pent-house? Why does he hide away from society? Why does he come to her rescue and then run away?
What she discovered was heartbreaking…
Angie learns that forty-four year old Grayson Whitmore suffers from schiz-ophrenia. Paranoid, he retreats into his own world.
What she ended up with was a treasure…
Angie is determined to get through to Grayson. They form a friendship that blazes into an inconceivable love fired with raging passion. Angie must now come to Grayson’s rescue because the wicked that has been perpetrated on him is unconscionable. First, though, she must gain the trust of a man whose mind does not allow for such a thing.

I saw it all. His dark fears, his crippling doubts, his fervent passion – and his amazing heart. It was perfection. A perfect soul with fissures and flaws that made him beautiful.
Grayson by Lisa Eugene was a sweet, intense, heart-gutting read. The storyline was hot and romantic with a heavy dose of drama and angst towards the end. It’s about finding love again even amidst illness and tragedy. Everything in this book, every character, every tragedy, from the way Angie’s and Grayson’s relationship progressed to the way they deal with their misfortunes, their personalities and even the supporting characters, felt real and beautiful. The plot’s genuine, unique and thought-provoking especially towards those afflicted with schizophrenia. I really enjoyed the story and was taken by surprise with the powerful punch of emotion at the end. Some parts of the story were messy, like Ana’s and Charles’s affair, but still engaging.
I couldn’t begin to imagine what his world was like. My senses gave me input about the world and I trusted my brain to honestly interpret the data and make accurate conclusions and predictions. What if the conclusions were often wrong? How could I ever stay grounded? How could I ever feel safe? How could I ever put my trust in anything around me?
I loved Grayson and Angie’s relationship (especially the smutty parts). Angie was strong, caring and thoughtful. Grayson was an enigma, a complex character for me. In the beginning, I really felt the chills he put out and wasn’t sure about his character. But gradually, as I started to know about his condition and his mind, I found out he was really worth the wait. I couldn’t begin to imagine his reality and I have the highest respect for those who suffer from this terrible disease and are still able to enjoy life. The one letdown for me was Charles. He felt too young (19) to be such a lecherous mastermind villain. And why didn’t Grayson notice his evil ways before the accident? Or he did notice but took no action towards it? And is there a book for Ana? Wouldn’t mind reading more about her.
My Grayson was funny and brilliant. He was tender and passionate. He could melt my heart with the tiniest smile. But this man, too, was my Grayson, a man who was sometimes out of touch with reality, who lived in the distorted world concocted by his brain. A world of doubt, fear and distrust.
Apart from that, Lisa Eugene sure knows how to make me feel soft for her characters. The epilogue was awesome; really enjoyed that. It was several years in the future and it made me so happy to be able to see how their lives turned out after their misery. Overall, a sweet book with an even sweeter epilogue.

I read this book years ago. A mention of this book from a GR friend perk my interest to re-read this again.
Angela “Angie” Roberts (24), is a nurse/student. Coming from a financially struggling family she is in desperate need for more money. Dedicating a full time job as a nurse she also takes on a job of cleaning a house.
Grayson Witmore (44), is a wealthy man who runs companies sitting at home. He was diagonised with mild schizophrenia at a young age. Taking his medications and happily married along with a son, he was normal. But an accident which led to his wife’s death had his mental disorder more pronounced as a result he became elusive and paranoid.
“There was something about Grayson that went beyond the physical, something magnetic that drew me in. Why he affected me this way? I didn’t know. But now, this ray of sunshine was frowning as he stared down at me, his eyes like cloudy blue skies. He was wondering what I was up to, I knew. He was trying to figure me out.”
Hired for the cleaning job Angie didn’t expect any inhabitants living there for the house was dead beat. She expected an old man who was in recluse and wanted to be left alone, what she didn’t expect was a fit, healthy older man in a towel. As time passes she tries to lure Grayson out.
“Although he’d confirmed his diagnosis, I was still reluctant to believe it. I wanted to learn more. I wanted to understand what life was like for him. Why did he choose to live here, isolated from the world in this broken-down house while his son luxuriated in a sumptuous penthouse? Why did this beautiful, intelligent man feel he needed to protect himself with a fort? How had he managed a multi-million dollar company with his illness? And, did he feel anything for me?”
Angie’s persistance brings Grayson out. They bond a friendship/relationship, Angie tries to understand his illness, his mistrust for everyone – even his son. While she is a nurse and understands his fear for both literary and imaginary, she tries to understand what triggers his episodes. Why would a smart man who runs an expensive company avoid civilization.
“Do you know how old I am?”
“Yes, and I don’t care.”
“I’m old enough to be your—.”
“I don’t care!” “It’s just a stupid number and it means nothing to my heart.”
Grayson was funny, passionate and brilliant and Angie, his stronger counterpart. While they were aware of their rapid flowing desire, there was a fragile distrust of harsh realities.
“I’m on your side, Grayson. Always.”
I like that Angie was always there for Grayson, never leaving his side. Her determination helped Grayson improve and put down a certain evil person. I don’t like what happened to her sister but she needed to be taught a lesson and life punished her in a harsh way.
The whole book is said from Angie’s POV, the book has an attempt rape scene. This is a forbidden, friends-to-lovers story of two strangers who bring forth a beautiful love story.
I was recommended this a while back and now got to read it. I really liked reading it. It was sweet, lovable and a hot story romance. Really worth the read and very well written! A heartfelt story.
I have never read a book like this before. I LOVED it and would definitely recommend!!
Angie Roberts is 24 years old and a registered nurse who is looking for a second job when she is hired by Charles Whitmore, 19, to clean up his father’s house.
But there are rules and Angie is not supposed to go upstairs where his father, Grayson, lives or bother him in any way.
When Angie disobeys the rules she discovers the truth about Grayson, 44, and she sets off to help him but will it end up costing her the job and more than that once Charles finds out?
This was a really interesting book as I liked having a main character with such a serious issue and how with Angie’s help they were able to start getting a handle on things.
I liked the gradual friendship and trust that slowly developed between Grayson and Angie. Angie was super caring but at the same time she expected a lot and pushed harder than she should have many times but it was a learning curve for her. She knew a little bit about schizophrenia with being a nurse but every patient is different and she had to go slow with Grayson and gain his trust.
There was no trust between Grayson and Charles and I was really trying to figure out why Charles hated Grayson so much and I thought that it must be because of his mom and whatever had happened to her. Charles wanted to push Grayson’s buttons as much as he could to set him off and seemed to be waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
There was so much more at play as well with Angie’s sister Anna whom Charles seemed to want to use. Angie was running out of time to prove to everyone that Grayson was indeed competent but things were not looking good at all!
I was so proud of Angie for everything that she did to help Grayson and I was so proud of her for getting “dirty” in order to do so!! The end made me super happy and I really hope that Grayson has things figured out!
4.5*
Beautiful, heartbreaking, Sexy, Loving younger woman/older man romance. Angie takes a job from a young playboy to clean out a house that looks like it should be on a episode of hoarders. Soon she learns that her employers father lives upstairs. Wanting to introduce herself she goes seeking him out and catches him having an intimate moment with himself, and was surprised to find out he was younger than she was expecting. Slowly Angie tries to lure the reclusive Grayson into helping her clean his house and spend time together. Soon their friendly banter turns into something more but at first Grayson is suspicious of Angie and thinks his son is setting him up. Angie is aware of Grayson suffering from schizophrenia and slowly earns his trust. Angie thinking Grayson’s paranoid episodes are from his condition is later turned out warranted when events happen that not only could destroy their relationship but also brings to light they have been manipulated and lied to. Such a compelling story that I couldn’t put it down.
Grayson by Lisa Eugene is a tragic story about a college student who forms a relationship and sees a man beyond his mental illness.
Angie is in need of money to pay for college so she takes a job by Charles cleaning a house for his dad Grayson. Angie is determined to find out more about the man who lives in the house, she is a nurse and know how to deal with him. Grayson is the quiet recluse hero who is intrigued by Angie and just not sure how to react to her. Grayson and Angies first meeting didn’t not go how you would typically think.
I understood how Angie had the patience and took the time to deal with Grayson and his illness even when he tried to drive her away. When the book started Angie was not interested in commitment with anyone until she mat Grayson. This was a slow burn and a building of trust in a relationship, I could feel the connection they had.
This is the 1st in a new series and is about nursing student Angie, who is desperately looking for a second job to survive, and she is employed to clear out a house that is in a bad way. When Angie ventures upstairs she finds Grayson, and he is not what she expects as she thought he would be older. Grayson has retreated from the world and living as a recluse due to being diagnosed with schizophrenia which his family has a history off. Angie is the light to his darkness. This is a beautifully written story which is heartwarming, and with emotions, friendships, and love. I was hooked throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This age gap romance has everything you could hope for: a recluse silver fox and a young girl who brings out the best in him. I really like how Eugene incorporated the stigma of mental health in this book. Definitely goes to show that love goes a long way in their healing.
This is the story of Grayson and Angie.
Grayson is not your typical love interest. He is affected with schizo-ophrenia.
Angie is a grad student in nursing. She takes on an extra job cleaning out and organizing an old house.
In the house is where she meets and forms a friendship with Grayson.
Grayson is 44; Angie is 24. Angie forms a relationship and bond with Grayson.
When something unthinkable is done to Grayson, she is fearless in doing what she knows is right.
I loved how Grayson’s mental illness is portrayed honestly. Grayson’s story gives some insight to what someone with a mild case can do and live with. It shows how, even with problems, someone can have a chance to experience love and life.
I enjoyed how their friendship and trust bloomed. Great story that kept me wanting to read more!!!!
