Can a lady tempt a Free Fellow to surrender his heart? As a founding member of the Free Fellows League—a group of four gentlemen who signed a pledge to never wed when they were lads—Griffin, Viscount Abernathy, swears that he will put off marrying as long as possible. But when he is suddenly called off to war, he has no choice but to obey his father’s wishes and find a wife… wife…
Just days later, he marries the lovely Lady Alyssa. For a man committed only to his freedom, she seems a perfect—and perfectly undemanding—bride. Intelligent and self-sufficient, Alyssa craves her independence just as much as Griffin loves his. But as the irresistible attraction between them flourishes with every look and touch, they discover there is something they desire even more than a loveless marriage of convenience—the passion they find in each other’s arms…

Cute enough. Might read more of the series.
That he only has to marry before leaving is silly — the whole point is to get an heir. Assuming conception in less than a week, let alone successful delivery of a male, is a stupid agreement.
Also, his friends riding to her rescue is nice, but at that point, not entirely sensible. taking a woman along (preserve reputations!) would be better.
I enjoyed the story as well as the characters.
I thought this book was perhaps realistic in that time of war and the need for heirs.
I really liked reading this one and have purchased the next in the series
The story is easy to follow and the letter writing adds to the timeline as no emails or texting happened then If you like this time read
A nice read.
Loved it
I enjoyed this book. The characters were feisty and the dialogue was interesting. The plot was good. It was an easy read.
I found it a little unbelievable that grown men would stick to such rigid rules written when they were 9 years old, but other than that I enjoyed the story and the humor.
Great
I enjoyed this book immensely. This was a sweet and haunting love story. Griffin was going to war and is forced to make a decision to choose a bride by his father so an heir can be produced to carry on the family’s legacy. He is attracted to Alyssa. They marry on short notice and have less than a week for a honeymoon and get acquainted before he goes to war. Their mutual attraction is instant and she falls in love with him and though he in in denial because of a code he takes with friends not to ever live a woman, he falls a little in love with her. He returns home a war hero but deeply scarred from battle. Through much conflict, they work through their differences and discover true love. This is not only a live story but shows the horror of war and it’s consequences. I highly recommend this book as it is a regency story and from a diffferent time, the story is revealant today of married life.
One of my favorite stories. Love when the ending is good.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The two main characters, Griffin and Alyssa, both know what they want and do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. He needs a wife, and she needs to have more control over her life. This story is original, emotional, romantic and very hard to put down.
This was a nicely told story I enjoyed throughout. It had me smiling at the banter between characters as well as crying at some scenes towards the end.
