This was another story where the focus of the story was more on the Psy world then the Changeling world but don’t worry there were also some scenes with Changeling characters in it.
Max and Sophia were both fascinating and complex main characters. They had a difficult childhood, that left behind big scars and left them both a bit broken inside. Both hide it very well from the outside world but recognised it in the other from the first glance. In many ways Sophia and Max were the same, both were very intelligent, strong and very stubborn. They also hide a very big heart that had been bruised many times over the years and both hungered to bring justice for the innocent souls. They each had their own way to do that, one followed the rules and another did it in a darker way.
Sophia is a Justice-Psy. (A Psy talent that was new to me, so I was very curious about her.) Just like the F-Psy’s, the J-Psy’s are very strong but also very fragile because of their ‘talent’. J-Psy have much more chance to fracture, even with silence. Sophia knows that her time is running out. She has made peace with it in her own way but then she meets Max and everything changes.
Max has demons of his own. His focus has always been his job but that all changes when he meets Sophia, or Sophie like he loves to call her.
From their first meeting they feel something and when they have to work together on a case for the dangerous Psy councillor Nikita Duncan, their attraction is growing. A very dangerous thing, not only because Sophia is a Psy and Max a human and those relationships are forbidding but also because Sophia her mind is very fragile and one touch could break her mind. But these two stubborn people don’t let them stop that from getting closer and closer to each other. But there is danger too, not only of the Psy around them but also from a human sociopath that has become fascinated with Sophia. Can Max keep Sophia save from the Psy and the sociopath?
I liked this story, it was entertaining and both the main characters were strong and fascinating. Even though they weren’t very expressive emotional people you could still feel their love and it was very deep for each other. It was beautiful to see and experience. I was very curious how the writer would handle Sophia her ‘Psy situation’ and it was done in a good way. Silence is breaking in little ways and you feel the tension rising. It really makes me want to read the next book.
Max Shannon is one of New York’s best cops. He was born with a natural shield that protects him against Psy mental invasions. His current case is to track down a murderer targeting a Psy Counselor advisor and his partner is a J-Psy who he can’t stop thinking about.
I was hesitant to start this book because I didn’t love the previous book with Dev. Like Dev, Max has barely been a part of the series so far so I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one. I was wrong. From the very beginning I was absorbed into the story and couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen with him and Sophia.
Max is a protective alpha male who has dedicated his life to stopping bad people. He had a terrible childhood and it has made him determined to help people. I really enjoyed Max and his dedication to saving Sophia. Sophia is a J-Psy (justice) and is very close to being rehabilitated. Her shields are basically done for at this point and she knows it’s just a matter of time before she is taken away. Her and Max make the most of what time they have left inbetween catching a murder.
“We fit, you and I….“Two broken pieces making a whole.”
I really enjoyed these two. The feelings between these two were strong and heartbreaking. I couldn’t put the book down because of it. There was also development with the Pure Psy and who is behind that. I really can’t wait to read the next book to find out what is going to happen next for the Psy.
Reader Warning:
Hero was abused and neglected by his mother as a child.
The world is very different in this future timeline. There are three races: Psy, changelings, and humans. The Psy use their x-men-esque powers to control the world. Changelings are shape shifters. And as we all know, humans are resilient lol. Max is a human who starts working with a J Psy. Sophia knows that her brain won’t be able to handle much more. Her gift for Justice is a death sentence, but she is determined to finish this case. Good thing Max is stubborn, and the murderer is after Sascha’s mom Councilor Nikita. With the help of the pack and a little Deus Ex Machinae that I never saw coming, there might still be hope! Happy Reading!
Must read! Max and Sophie… I just love how love can overcome such severe angst. Riveting read!
Bonds of Justice is a Psy/Human pairing. I was so curious how this one was going to play out because I really didn’t know how Sophia was going to escape being rehabilitated. In the Psy/changling pairings, the Changlings were able to carry the Psy mates in their own network. Sophia did not have that available to her since Max is human. I clearly did not expect what happened at the end but I also am not sure I understand it either. I’m sure more scenarios like this will come up in another pairing in the series. Overall, I liked the story, the main couples, and I genuinely enjoyed the small appearances of the previous pairings. I’m looking forward to seeing Lucas as a father. I’m also curious about Nikita. Things are changing and I wonder how her personality, or lack thereof will be by the end.
I am so totally in love with Max’s book ,it was just awesome ,another great add to the series 🙂
I just love Max ,he’s a very interesting character,i was happy that we got to see some of his past but I felt so bad for him,the way his mother treated him was just awful,i understand that something bad happened to her but that wasn’t Max’s fault but she took it out on him, then we see parts of his past with his brother River I so felt like crying,Max really put of walls after River vanished , I was glad that he met Sophia ,it was such a great story between the 2 of them ,I loved that he wouldn’t let her put walls around herself but he knew when to back off but still be there for her, I thought it was so great how she helps him find out what happened to his brother ,that was such a touching scene :).
I really like Sophia ,I thought it was great that we got to learn more about the Psy race, I think it’s cool that she is a Justice Psy but I feel so bad for her at the same time,it must be awful seeing what people have done in their life ,and that she loses a piece of herself everytime , I think that her and Max having both had bad childhoods that it connected them in a way not many people could understand,I liked how she reacted to Max,it was so funny to see him try and charm her, they have some great scenes together .
I love this book and I was super glad Max got his own book 🙂 this series is just awesome 🙂
This book was okay for me, but Max and Sophia didn’t really wow me. I liked the on going plot with Silence breaking down and I am really interested in Nikita. I really want Sascha and Nikita to make up and I want Sascha to have her mother’s love. Still enjoyable but nothing super special.
~ 4 Bonds of Justice Stars ~
I love this series. Love the characters. Love the factions. Love the world building.
Amazing! Fascinating! Interesting!
Bonds of Justice is book eight in Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. I had a wonderful time reading about Max and Sophia. We don’t see Max expect in Clay and Tally’s book Mine to Possess. It was a suprise to see him get his own book, but very rewarding, especially after being disappointed in the last book Blaze of Memory. We get a great plot, lots of suspense, several new Psy being revealed, more in-depth into the Psy world and romance.
I enjoyed the visits with past characters. We get to see how they are doing and the parts they play in the storyline. The Psy, at least most, are finally understanding that change is coming a type of awakening. I liked the progress of the plot with the Silence and the Council. I also liked the idea of the J-Psy, Justice Psy, they have a hard life. The concept as a whole, with the J-Spy, was interesting. The sexual tension between Max and Sophia was at an all time high. Their was no lack in making me wait and wait for the relationship to hit the critical point. As for Sophia she was a little flat I never really felt like I got to know her. Max I liked as a character, but was never completely enthralled with him.
Another good book in the Psy-Changeling series. I can’t wait to read the next one.
