25th Anniversary Edition—with an Introduction by the Author! The Owens sisters confront the challenges of life and love in this bewitching novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Rules of Magic and Magic Lessons. For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate … Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions and their crowd of black cats. But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape. One will do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they share will bring them back—almost as if by magic…
“Splendid…Practical Magic is one of [Hoffman’s] best novels, showing on every page her gift for touching ordinary life as if with a wand, to reveal how extraordinary life really is.”—Newsweek
“[A] delicious fantasy of witchcraft and love in a world where gardens smell of lemon verbena and happy endings are possible.”—Cosmopolitan

A tad better than the movie.
Really enjoyed this book. I may have to see the movie.
Been a fan of Alice Hoffman for years, but every books gets a little more strange. Unlike any other author’s works!
Loved the book….so different than the movie.
I loved “Practical Magic”! The characters were vivid and original, the plot was just magical enough to keep me guessing what would happen, and the storytelling was first rate. Highly recommended read!
Good book. Witty, interesting characters
This was a reread for me, since I just finished the prequel, The Rules of Magic. Interestingly, some of the story did not jibe with Rules, but I guess that is Hoffman’s prerogative, and it made Rules really good.
did not like
A fun read because I loved the movie
Loved this book about second and even forth chances at life.
Amazing book! Love the characters and the feel of the story.
I loved it!
I love this book, and this is my second time buying it. It’s not that similar to the film, but that’s fine. It’s more. It’s much more about each generation of Owens women, including Sally’s daughters as they grow up. Gillian has a lot more character growth in the book, as well. The magic isn’t as demonstrative, it’s more sort of realistic, like influencing nature, rather than making something cool happen before your eyes.
A great story of the Owens Family and it’s past. A story of two sisters tortured lives surrounded by love and loss. Page turning story line.
Loved the sister relationships through each generation of Owens women. The way theyvwere all different, yet so alike.
Another good Alice Hoffman book.
