Gabriel Allon is a retired agent who has been called back into service after a tragedy involving a case and his family. His character is one of a good person who tries to help people and who really cares about people and wants to protect them from hurt and harm. This first introduction to Allon made me want to get to know him better.
Very fond of Daniel Silva books. If you are looking for an entertaining read, they never disappoint
This whole series is fantastic — I recommend everyone. Plus, Silva is a very good writer.
Some of the history of the middle east was hard to follow and bogged it down. Other than that, I found it interesting, a little slow at times. I will read on to see how the characters develop.
I don’t usually read this genre, but the author does a great job of character development with an exciting storyline. There is some violence as would be expected, but it’s not overdone. The emphasis is on tradecraft with well researched and realistic scenarios. The author includes some of his sources as well for further reading if one is interested. I plan to read the next (and probably more) of the series.
I love all of Daniel Silva’s books and his character Gabriel Allon. This is first book in the series and tells how Gabriel became the “Kill Artist”. The book is very well written and has great character development in addition to a great plot.
Love every one of Silva’s novels. Gabriel Allon is a great character for this series.
All Daniel Silva books are engaging. But to enjoy these books completely, you need to read them in sequence. Over time you get to know the depth of each character.
After finishing the superb The New Girl, book #19 in the Gabriel Allon series, I decided it was time to read where it all started, as I unfortunately a late starter in this amazing series. I’m not surprised that readers clamoured for more of Gabriel Allon after THE KILL ARTIST, because it is fantastic!
Enormously informative, meticulously researched, impeccably paced; THE KILL ARTIST is everything a spy thriller should be. I think Daniel Silva might be the author who is the most adept at recreating an accurate picture of whichever country or city the action takes place. The characters are just as vibrant and dynamic; they become living, breathing entities in whose destinies you care about, even the villains. Some characters are real historical figures, so well inserted into the narrative that you can’t help wondering if that’s how they were, or if some characters are real people, or if the story really happened. Nobody’s all bad or good, you will not find one single caricature in this book, and the heroine is one for the ages.
Daniel Silva fully understands the Middle East, tradecraft, politics, people, art, action scenes, and he is able to carefully plot a creative and exciting story that stands the test of time – THE KILL ARTIST was published in 2000. Last and definitely not least, Mr. Silva writes extremely well: he’s very precise and concise, but he does it elegantly, with a dash of dark humour. I do believe that the Gabriel Allon series is the finest espionage series ever written.
Danial Silva can tell a story! I stayed interested throughout.
I read all of Danielle Silva’s books. He is one of my favorite authors.
This is the first book of the Gabriel Allon series. Allon is an operative for the Mosad. Every book is gripping with some reoccurring characters. The first three of the series deal with looted art by the Nazis. These are really wonderfully plotted books and a pleasure to read.
The person who recommended this series to me is a fellow quilt enthusiast, so having her recommend a thriller made me curious. Gabriel Allon is a fascinating wounded hero. I love the unexpected elements in the overall story world–his being an art restorer and the fact that he’s part of the defense of the nation Israel. I’ve learned history from these books and spent many nights reading “into the wee hours.” Thrillers are not gentle reads and wouldn’t be for everyone, but I’m hooked on this series.
Early in the Gabriel Allon assassin action-thriller series.
Always kind of sorry when book is done.
Fun to read
Loved the character and have read every book by Silva. Detailed but easy to follow, action packed.
Great read! Really enjoy the series!
