Five time ‘Amazon All Star Author’ comes out with another book in the best selling Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series.
Kelly and her husband, Sheriff Mike, take a trip to the small town of Calico Gold, California, after his elderly Aunt Agnes calls and tells him she needs his help and expertise.
The day after Mike finds out Aunt Agnes has made him the sole beneficiary of her large estate, including … estate, including the Robertson Ranch and the beautiful Queen Anne house on it, she’s murdered.
Aunt Agnes was revered by many of the town residents, but she had her enemies as well. The list of suspects includes a local judge, a real estate developer, a nearby rancher next whose cattle desperately need water from Aunt Agnes’ property, a Vietnam vet who’s recently been evicted from the shack on her property, Mike’s newly discovered cousin, and Sheriff Mike himself, since he has the most to gain from her death.
Join Kelly, Mike, and their dogs Rebel and Lady, as they work to clear Mike’s name and bring the murderer to justice.
This is book #6 in the popular Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series. As in the others, there’s plenty of food, dogs, and recipes. To find out more about Dianne and her books, go to www.dianneharman.com.

Wonderful characters, and a twisty plot will keep you turning pages as Mike’s plans to visit his aunt embroil them in another murder investigation.
This narration is a bit rocky. It honestly sounds like a first read-through. There are words that first been read wrong and then repeated correctly, there were mispronounced words, there are a lot of pauses…
I am not reading this series in order, nor all at one time. It’s just one from this author here in there picked from whatever series, wherever. These are good characters, you could tell that they were repeat characters. It was an enjoyable little mystery
Kelly and Mike get summoned to his Aunt Agnes’s estate. She said she wants to discuss something with him. But soon after they arrive with their dogs and they see her she is murdered. It seems like there are a few people who could have wanted her gone. It’s a full house of a lot of commotion when Kelly’s daughter arrives with her family to visit also.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book and the mystery but the narrator kind of spoils it. The mystery was good and just what you would expect from a Dianne Harmon cozy mystery. Lots of suspects, a clever and loyal dog and a character based mystery. I haven’t listened to the books in order so knew about Mike’s aunt being murdered and it was nice to find out what actually happened, as it is mentioned in other book, other than that you can enjoy this series in any order you like. You do get snippets of the suspects thoughts before the murder accrues, so you knew who has a motive and then it up to you, oh and Mike and Kelly to solve.
Mike and Kelly decide to visit Mike’s elderly aunt, his only living relative because she was unable to attend there recent wedding. She owns a big area of property with a farm, that she inherited from her father. Property that a number of people wish to take off her hands and Sheriff Mike is shocked when he learns that she had been receiving threatening notes telling her to sell. Before Mike can look into the matter he finds her dead. Knowing he is the most likely suspect after he inherits the estate, Mike and Kelly start looking into the matter to not only prove himself innocent but also to find justice for his murdered aunt. He also has the big decision of what to do with the farm.
The narrator was okay but she hesitates or stumbles over a lot of the words. There is also long pauses between words when there shouldn’t be and a rustling noise like pages turning ever now and again.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
This was a fun light read. It was quick and satisfying. I enjoyed something a little lighter and I love how quickly it came to a conclusion. I’ll try more of her books for sure. I also want to try the apricot bread.
This was my first book to read in this series by Dianne Harmon, and too often cozy mysteries are not as good as I wish. But this one was wonderful; I kept reading to the finish while allowing things I needed
to be doing pile up.
As with all of this author’s work I loved it. When a new one comes out I can’t wait to see it.
I would definitely purchase more books by this author. She always keeps me in suspense. Her characters are realistic.
