Praise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The novel goes beyond simply giving us insight into the characters’ thoughts, with plenty of additional scenes painting a broader picture of the galaxy.”—New York Daily News

This is a good novelization of Star Wars The Force Awakens movie. It lacked some of the details I was looking for (I was hoping to learn more about Rey and Finn’s origins and details of how Kylo became Kylo) but it gave some inner thoughts and feelings of the main characters. It was a good, quick read but felt a little flat which was strange because the characters seemed very vibrant on film! Usually the situation is reverse.
Most reviews weren’t very positive on this one. I don’t know what they expected. It was the movie in book form. We got to get into the characters heads (which explained some things I was confused about) and there were enough extra scenes to make it worth it. The only negatives I had was that it was in third omnipresent, which is one of my least favorite points of view. There is also some head hopping going on, but it was clear whose head I was in.
It took me a while to get into it, but it was addicting once it got going. I loved this movie and it was nice to really get inside some of the characters heads! Everyone gets a POV in this book! (Even BB8. And as much as I love the little guy, a good narrator he is not.) My favorites were Han (of course) and our villain Kylo Ren.
My main negative about the movie was Kylo Ren. He wasn’t nearly as cool and tough and scary as Vader. (But few people are.)
This is a fantastic addition to the saga. The jelling of the old with the new characters worked beautifully. I dont think there is much along a story line that can change from the original (it will always be good vs evil), but the addition of a “wanna be” Darth Vader with daddy issues was a great touch. The action is fast and furious (no plug intended) and the story pace never falters.
An easy recommendation to fans of the saga and to friends of a good action story.
Good read!!!
It is a book based on the movie of the same name and follows the movie closely, it explains some things in the movie a bit better,
The noveization, not surprisingly fills in a few holes not well explained in the movie but at the same time leaves three of the biggest unexplained. Why, would her connection to the Force be so significant to people who had never met her before. How would she be able to learn force techniques so quickly. And even how could she have become so skilled and/or knowledgeable about piloting. We won’t even mention how she could understand wookie, and whatever machine code BB-8 spoke. Still Mr. Foster seldom disappoints when it comes to storytelling.
Alan Dean Foster always fleshes out what we eere able to only see on the screen when he does a movie novel. He lets us know how the characters feel and think so the experience is so much richer. I’m an original Star Wars fan and a fan of Alan too. Always hope to find more!
