A physiological thriller added with BDSM —reading this awesome book certainly takes you away from the everyday living of my life.

Then I listened to the audio book narrated by Dan Calley who brought this wonderful book alive … and I mean alive!!!!To hear the words spoken was amazing I was drawn once more into the pages of the marvelous book . Dan Calley delivered this with absolutely perfect narration and I do love an English accent .
So, I finished Don’t by Jack L Pyke.
This book was a great dive into the world into extreme BDSM mixed with mental illness. If you know anything about BDSM, then you know it can be difficult mixed with mental illness, especially if you’re under the delusion that it can treat it. Jack not only did a good job of making it clear that’s not the case but also did an outstanding job of creating a situation of what one looks like when learning the life vs one that is deep in it. Now my exposure to the life wasn’t as organized as the world in this book, but in this case with Jack’s (main character) extreme kinks, it was necessary and honestly the safest way to do any of it.
Jack also did one thing that most BDSM books don’t. She contrasted the life with the vanilla. I won’t say how because that’s a spoiler.
As far as the thriller aspect goes the beginning of the story was probably the most thrilling aspect. The not knowing and the intensity was lost later, but the story was still great.
Let’s move on the Dan Calley. I loved his skill. He made every single character sound unique. Not only is his voice just sexy, but it also made me want to keep listening. His inflections were also very natural for each character he narrated.
I’ll honestly give this novel 4.5 stars if it was possible. So I will give it 4. XD I recommend it.
I will admit this book was not what I was expecting though I wasn’t disappointed. It is a thriller and it’s my bad I didn’t notice the huge BDSM right in front of my face. Again, not a bad thing, just threw me off a little until I did catch on what the story is about. For me, it started out a bit confusing because jack kept bringing up Gray but I had no idea. When he starts getting the letters and calls the action begins right away. The writing is powerful. I will never hear the word Don’t and think of it the same way again. Then he meets Jan and they begin seeing each other and it’s hot as all hades. Then in comes the mentions of Gray and some things in his past It is like two stories going on at the same time but twisting together. Then Jan shows up with the mysterious Gray, and it all starts falling into place, still kinda two stories in one with the thriller part and the BDSM part maybe three as they also entwine. The characters are all amazing, the story is original, dark, hot, and exiting…quite a page-turner.
The narration by Dan Calley was AMAZING! his accent really did the story justice and he also adds his own brand of excitement as he tells us the story. I’ve already started book two!
If you like dark romance, BDSM and I mean hardcore stuff, this is not a sparkly love story, with intrigue and mystery, You will like this
Don’t is a book that left me on the edge of my seat. The story starts off a bit slow, but hang in there, it’s completely worth it. The slow start helps to introduce the reader a variety of characters and provides the foundation of their personalities. From this foundation, the author continues to build and shape these characters into complex and intricate people. There are so many twists and turns in the plot. I stopped trying to figure things out and just went along with the story and enjoyed it. The sex scenes in this book were amazing, and so incredibly hot. The author holds nothing back when it comes to the sex scenes. I love BDSM and kink, so this book was perfect for me. I also really loved the world building the author did with the BDSM-centric Society of Masters.
I also listened to the audiobook which has Dan Calley as the narrator. He does a fantastic job of narrating all the different voices of the characters. I’m American, so it took me a little bit to get used to his British accent, but oh was his voice sexy and sultry. There was some ambient white noise in the background during some parts of the audiobook. It was very light, and did not interfere with the actual narration and I barely noticed it.
Overall, I would give this book 4.5 stars. Jack L. Pyke is a fantastic author and her writing was superb. I loved how much detail and though she put into the plot and characters. I can’t wait to start on the second book.
This author is new to me, and I certainly didn’t know what to expect. I ended up being blown away!
I admit that I did struggle with the audiobook version and storyline at first. Rather than give up, I bought the book as well and by reading a bit, listening for a while, and sometimes doing both at the same time, I gradually fell in love with the story.
The well plotted and darkly complex storyline has hooked me and reeled me in. I have to know what happens next. Book 2 here I come.
Beautifully written. Insanely dark. Amazing characters.
This book is the first in a dark and twisted story of blood, sex, and violence. Things that we know happen, but we just can’t bring ourselves to dwell on. Just when things start to get impossibly bleak, the writer pulls you back from the edge of despair with a bit of hope and a touch of sweet. Then you get shoved over the edge again…
5+++ stars
This was an amazing story. I was somewhat floored by it. At every turning point I was stunned by the unpredictable twist, it was exquisitely done, I just couldn’t believe my eyes.
Jack is a mechanic with his own garage, also working as a martial art teacher at a dojo.
When a gorgeous guy with soft brown eyes brings in a broken car, Jack is more than interested.
Jan is a financial consultant with a broken car and is intrigued by Jack’s personality and even more when he feels Jack’s caged cock.
They start something together and both are more than smitten with each other. Until…
Until it all becomes complicated. This is not an ordinary story, it has so many layers and is so widely spread out, it’s just not simple to describe it without giving too much story away.
One thing I can say: don’t tell Jack ‘don’t’
This journey is all about three men, a thrilling psychological war, many traps, Doms and subs, a safety net, and love. We get to know all these factors throughout the story. Every chapter was one where my mouth was hanging open from all the amazing and intriguing events.
I loved Jan instantly, and Jack, gosh, he was something. I never met a more complicated personality than Jack I loved him hard and together they felt so right.
Jan made Jack forget his shit, until it became too complicated. And then there was Gray!!
Whoa, what can I say about Gray? He has such a strong personality, he brings you to your knees. He just demands it with his whole being, I had a deep respect for him.
Jack oh Jack, the most stubborn man I’ve ever met. I would have thrown the towel in the ring more than once. But Jack nooo, even deeply hurt he stayed dedicated. I loved him for that.
This was one of the most intriguing stories I have ever read, so explosive!! Watching the wick slowly burn before reaching the bomb and BAM.
It was a dark, unpredictable, thrilling, warm, funny, hurtful, emotional, enlightening, honest, witty, thorough, and endearing story.
Gray, Jack and Jan were amazingly put down. Their dynamic was so powerful, my heart skipped more than once watching them.
A story with unbelievably strong content and masterfully written in the most captivating way as possible, the whole scenery was breathtaking.
Silly me I was reading at work at lunch, tears running down my face, how could I explain this.
So, don’t… read at work, hell, don’t… read with anyone around, sit by yourself and go with this tremendous ride!
