Bailey Ross’ world is crumbling around her. Her abusive ex, a human, is closing in on her again, and to make matters worse, a new enemy, a djinn, is stalking her. This supernatural being takes great pleasure in human pain, something Bailey has in excess thanks to her ex. If she’s caught by either, she’s as good as dead.
Backed into a corner and desperate to escape, she does something she swore … she swore wouldn’t ever be possible again — trusting a man. And he’s a vampire.
Protection via the sexy vampire Erick Thorson may prove to be a little more than she bargained for. Sparks fly between them and she finds herself agreeing to more than just protection. Though he has promised not to let anyone harm her, the small west Texas town is more than it seems and he may not be able to make good on his vow no matter how hard he tries.
Will Sanctuary be the home Bailey longs for or will she have to die to find out?
WARNING: Contains sexy dragons, werewolves, and vampires that could melt the screen of your kindle with their hotness. Also contains some BDSM elements that will make you quiver with excitement!

Surviving for fate
An exciting new take on a dystopian future, where women’s lib is reversed and paranormals have to band together to survive. I love how the author gave us such a strong group of female characters and equally strong supporters in the males. These ladies have been through the wringer, especially Bailey, and still continue fighting. I enjoyed the connection between these two characters and the comradeship in the community. The author really did an exceptional job with the aspect of overcoming abuse and the reality of triggers in the environment. There were so many characters to fall in love with in this story and I can’t wait to see who gets the spotlight shined on them next.
What a great book. This is a paranormal lovers dream book. It gives us so many Other worldly beings all in one place.
This book is in the future and some states now allow others to coexist peacefully.
Bailey Ross is running from an abusive ex and ends up in a bus station smelling horrible and hungry. Enter one Djinn named Marcus who is wanting to get at her for some reason but then Erick appears. He is a protector and Vampire and offers to take her to his home in Sanctuary. This is where we are introduced to so many other beings.
Knowing she does not have much choice and needs to hide she agrees to go with him.
So much happens and I am not going to give you spoilers so let me just say.
Grab this book and read !! I hope that this is the beginning of a series of books because it was fantastic and I highly recommend !!
This story has a lil of every kind of paranormal being in an alternate version of the world. From the sounds of it the world is not a great place to be but Texas and a couple other states have managed to be supportive n understanding to a degree.Sanctuary sounds like a wonderful place to live , however if your not other your not encouraged to stay. So we get a hint that Bailey is not as human as she thinks. I loved being introduced to the characters Rose, the Blackmoore brothers, Calliope, Rose and Raven n Maven. Bailey finds out she’s a bit more than just human and her rotten ex get his comeuppance in the end! Also bad Djinn gets his in the end and explains to Bailey why he targeted her. Almost felt sorry him…almost. The story moves along like a roller-coaster…slow in some spots, building up speed then whoosh straight into the meat of the story and before you know it your done and thinking huh? did i miss something? So you reread it – take the ride again – just in case you missed something the first go around! Am getting ready for book 2!!!
I received this book in my Bite Me Box! Thank you ILVN for a great selection!
I enjoyed the combination of the characters that were involved. It was a book I really enjoyed reading.
I liked this book a lot and want to read more in the series. Kind of reminds you of Midnight, TX. Enjoyed the characters .
Love this type of book, it distracted me from my stressful days at work!
I thought I would enjoy this but it far surpassed my expectations. The characters were all strong and apart from the baddies, endearing. It made me want to go to sanctuary.
MY VIKING VAMPIRE is the first book in the Sanctuary, Texas series and my first read by author, Krystal Shannon. (I actually won a signed copy of it in a contest!) This is an older man/younger woman paranormal romance (duh, it’s got VIKING and VAMPIRE in the title, LOL!) that also has elements of suspense and BDSM all centered around a small town of paranormal beings. Sound intriguing??
The story jumps right into suspenseful from the beginning and maintains a pretty quick pace throughout. In a future where supernatural beings are exposed, Bailey is a human who’s constantly on the run from a horrific past, an abusive ex and a scary Djinn. When she’s rescued by Erick and with no where else to go, she finds herself in a small, off the map Texas town called Sanctuary. Here, Bailey meets all kinds of fantastic creatures: dragons, pixies, fairies, lycan and more!
I loved the world building in this colorful tale! I don’t read TOO MUCH paranormal, though I thoroughly enjoy the genre, and maybe this doesn’t sound too unique but it was definitely different and a refreshing change of pace for me. Ms. Shannon did an awesome job of creating a world that’s far fetched but not so out of the realm of reality that I can’t picture Sanctuary and it’s saucy inhabitants in my mind!
Bailey was a heartfelt bag of contradictions. She was sweet but tough, incredibly strong but filled with fear and she didn’t trust easily but she found herself trusting Erick pretty quickly. Erick was worthy of a sigh or two! He was possessive, protective and also sweet, understanding. He helped to bring out the “warrior” in Bailey and their attraction and connection was evident from the start! The secondary characters are vibrant and fun, they help to bring life to the story. It’ll be interesting to read more about them.
The plot had several unexpected twists that help to build up the tension and anticipation. My only complaint, was that the final “battle” between Bailey and the Djinn felt a little rushed. I wanted more from it and thought it could have been expanded and drawn out! But overall, this was a well written, interesting take on the mystic and I’ll be visiting Sanctuary again! Told almost completely from Bailey’s POV with a sexy ending.
Another great Sanctuary, TX and it’s paranormal citizens story. We have a woman trying to get away from her abusive husband, then finds herself being stalked by some scary looking man. She feels trapped with nowhere to turn when out of the blue she is rescued by a man she somehow trusts to take her to what he says will be a safe place. Yep, that safe place is Sanctuary; where she discovers amazing people who say they will keep her safe. After all she’s been through trusting doesn’t come easy, especially when it comes to men. She learns secrets kept from the outside world and discovers things about herself she didn’t know, things that will change her life forever. Among all these knew things that are happening to her she finds herself falling for her rescuer, but is still terrified to trust. She finds out a secret kept by her knew found love, one that she is terrified of and will never accept. Should she once again run from those she fears? You have to read the story to find out all that befalls her, both good and bad and can she finally let herself trust others? I can’t wait to read the other stories in this authors Sanctuary, TX series. All fans of paranormal romance with some sensual loving, thrills and unexpected turn of events need to read this book (free) and begin an exciting adventure into the world of Sanctuary TX; can anybody give me directions to this paranormal town?
Listened to the Audible verison. Enjoyed the female narration. Male narrator was a bit too nasally for my liking. Overall, a good listening experience. Quality recording.
Love that the story gets right into the action. Bailey has been in hiding from some really terrible person; she’s has to keep moving places and live with very little. Her apartment is destroyed and she must leave, but she has little money to do so. Plus, there is another evil person on her tail. Luckily, Vampire Erick, is in the right place to help her. She ends up staying with him in Sanctuary, Texas, where a lot of paranormals live. A lot of this world is new to her, but she is aware of some things. The whole world in this book seems to be a pretty cruel place. Lots of danger going on.
Erick and Bailey have some good passion; very quick to the romance department for these two. I didn’t quite feel the full connection between them, and I wasn’t a fan of the BDSM type scenarios added; they felt misplaced for Bailey’s character. Still some great sweetness between them though.
I enjoyed the whole town dynamic; all the different paranormals, fun and entertaining. Some cool magical ideas; wish I had clothes that magically sized perfectly! Overall, an enjoyable story; darker than I expected, but entertaining. Interested to check out more of this series!
I enjoyed this book. The story is an engaging blend of heartbreak, terror, hope, healing, steam and romance. Bailey’s history and present are truly tragic and my heart bled for her. Erick was a great book boyfriend. I loved how he wanted Bailey to have what she wanted regardless of what he or others might want. She absolutely deserved having someone 100% in her corner and there was never any doubt in my mind that this was the case. I loved the connection between these two and the epic amounts of steam they generated. As for the story, there is a lot covered here. Aside from the romance, you are introduced into a dystopian world, a vast cast of characters, some background lore and the overarching good vs. evil plot is established so that it can play out over the series. There is also a strong BDSM element laid out here, although it is not delved too deeply into due to the heroine’s, however I do anticipate that changing in future entries in this series. Overall, I really liked it and am eager to read more of this series. The book does feature dual narration which is something I prefer and while I thought that both did a very good job, I did find that in this case dual narration ended up being a bit jarring. Almost all of the book is performed by the female narrator up until the very last chapter which the male narrator performs. To be honest, by the time the change came I found it kind of threw me and kind of broke me out of the flow I was enjoying. This could easily just be a me problem because it takes me a while to warm up and accept the narrator’s voices over my own that I hear when I’m reading. Still, in spite of this pet peeve I greatly appreciate the fact that the author chose to do dual narration and the excellent job that the narrators did in bringing this book to life.
Started really good. I couldn’t put it down but mid book’, it changed. I had to force myself to finish it.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I would give it five stars.
It was slow. A cute romance.
I finished this story and felt it had great potential, but… I think it is better suited for those that don’t read as much as I do. There were flow issues… I like the that it was futuristic and the changes to the country but it needed a lot more backstory… about the riots and about how things changed! They’re also needed to be more backstory with the Sentinels, Others and how Sanctuary came to be. There was a tremendous amount of repetitive sentences and to much inner dialogue. For now I’m going to pass on the rest of the series.
Couldn’t put down!
It’s a good book.
