HONOR, LOYALTY, LOVE David Cruz is good at two things: war and training dogs. The ex-soldier’s toughest case is Atlas, a Belgian Malinois whose handler died in combat. Nobody at Hope’s Crossing kennel can break through the animal’s grief. That is, until dog whisperer Evelyn Jones walks into the facility . . . and into Atlas’s heart. But when Lyn’s work with Atlas puts her in danger, David will do anything to protect her.
Lyn realizes that David’s own battle scars make him uniquely qualified for his job as a trainer. A bonus book included in a Hunt novel. This is a new to me author. I really enjoyed the suspense. Generally dog books aren’t my thing and it almost kept me from trying out this book. I’m glad it didn’t. This military trained K9 was thrilling to read about. The mystery and danger of his previous handler was very enjoyable. There were so many good and solid characters in this story. I’ll have to check out more of her books. This is a steamy romance.
A wonderfully entertaining book
I like this author and this book didn’t let me down….. then again I also love dogs. Check out the series….
i love, love, loved it. great story.
Extreme Honor is the first book in the True Heroes series, it’s a Romantic Suspense with a Military, K9 trope. The cover is awesome and resembles the story.
David Cruz is a former Para Rescue soldier and is training dogs for Hope’s Crossing Kennels. David’s friend died in combat and he was a handler for a Belgian Malinois, Atlas, and now it’s his job to break through the dogs grief and retrain him for a new handler, but no one at the kennels can seem to accomplish it. Until dog whisperer, Evelyn Jones walks in and claims Atlas’s attention. Lyn not only grabs the dogs attention but she immediately has David’s too. It doesn’t take long to figure out that Lyn and Atlas is in danger and David will do anything to protect the both of them.
Lyn realizes that David’s past as a soldier makes him well qualified for his job as a trainer. Even though David has a tough exterior, he is really a gentle soul on the inside and he combines his intelligence and feelings to be able to know that Lyn is good at her job too. Someone else knows this info as well and steps up the attacks on Atlas and Lyn. Now only the two of them working together as a team, trusting each other, can ensure that the dog will love them both as they love each other…
I thought it was a great story, one that was a little different than most. The dog trainers were an interesting twist. The story started kind of slow, but the chemistry between the two trainers and the dog kept me reading. good book.
A wonderful story I just couldn’t put it down!!
Fascinating throughout.
loved the characters and the dog.
Enjoyed the story line. Loved the interaction with the GSD.
I am always late to a party , I just read this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t know if I am considered simple minded or what, but when I read a fiction romance suspense novel, I want it to take me away and I want to enjoy it. This did both. I would have to say its an on going mystery almost. This couples story was HEA, but the thread of what transpired seems as if it will be carried on through other books to follow, hence a little of the confusion everyone speaks about. I received this from the library and have book 2 Ultimate Courage to hit up 🙂 Read it and enjoy.
So I first tried the True Heroes series with book three, Absolute Trust and I soon learned that I needed to read this series in order, so I set down Absolute Trust and request from my library the first book Extreme Honor.
Extreme Honor is a light and easy romantic suspense read. I had an ok time reading. It was a little bland, but enjoyable enough. I did have some trouble getting into the story; because it’s slow to get going, but once you hit 60% things start to pick up.
The suspense was predictable and of course not completely resolved by the end. Some threads where left open to carry on into the next book. And, the romance did have some heat with a little tension, but I never felt that the couple connected.
My main issue with this one and where I had trouble was the dog training. Why? Well I’m a fan of D.D. Ayres K-9 Rescue series and that women knows her dog breeds and the training that goes into military dogs, police dogs, and well all the different types of work a dog can do. I didn’t feel that Piper J. Drake did much research on the different areas, that she didn’t understood dogs; let alone working dogs, and I never felt that her characters connected to the dogs they worked with. It was disappointing.
Extreme Honor was meh and enjoyable enough to read. I will say I’m intrigued to check out the next book Ultimate Courage just from the except that I read at the end of Extreme Honor.
