Let #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts fly you into Lunacy, Alaska, and into a colorful, compelling novel about two lonely souls who are searching for love and redemption…As a Baltimore cop, Nate Burke watched his partner die on the street—and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepted the job as Chief of Police in a tiny, remote Alaskan town with the hopes … Alaskan town with the hopes of starting over. Despite the name, Lunacy provides a balm for Nate’s shattered soul—and an unexpected affair with pilot Meg Galloway warms his nights…
But other things in Lunacy are heating up. Nate suspects the killer in an unsolved murder still walks the snowy streets. His investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the first place. And his discovery will threaten the new life—and the new love—that he has finally found for himself.

I read this book as research for my new novel which also plays in Alaska. It gave me great insight into how people live there as well as their typical lingo. Norah Roberts always has a knack of creating likeable characters and making her stories believable.
My fave Nora book ever. Read it so many times.
Northern Lights is a romantic suspense, so the romance between the hero and heroine shares the book with a mystery and several murders. But the violence isn’t very graphic, and the Alaskan setting is fascinating. I read this book again this year, and it was just as exciting. The heroine is atypical — a bush pilot. And the hero is a Baltimore cop who takes the job of police chief in a small Alaskan town after almost dying in a shootout. Both the hero and heroine grow and change as the book progresses, and you won’t know who the killer is until the very end.
This is, after four readings now, one of my absolute favorite romances. Meg and Nate are an unconventional couple, and I love how Meg’s sass and stubborn independence draws Nate out of his depression. The mystery and suspense were also well done. Every time I read this book, I get something new out of it. Well done as always, Ms. Roberts.
Nora Roberts is at it again with a interesting book that actually has two stories in one and blends them well. The story takes place in Alaska, a place called Lunacy and it is full of interesting characters that fit that name. The main characters Nate and Meg are finding love and how things are done in a small town, far away from the big city that Nate is use to. I read this book in one sitting and have reread it a couple of times. You won’t be sorry
Vintage Nora. Damaged cop – lost his partner in shootout – blames himself. Took a new job as sheriff in nowhere, Alaska. Heroine is gutsy, bush pilot. Fun and complex characters in small, tight community. Wild and fabulous setting. Murder from years ago comes to light, and triggers a chain of violent, current events that our street-smart sheriff investigates, stirring up even more trouble. I read this one years ago, and I’m glad I picked it up for a reread (old-friend reads during COVID bring me comfort). This is a great one.
I recently picked up this book, being an Alaskan, mostly curious to see how Roberts would depict the characters. I got a kick out of the fictional town of Lunacy. That could fit so many smaller towns up here. I liked the richness of the characters, and I love strong heroines. This one is absolutely fearless, which isn’t always the case with most Alaskan women I know. We all have something that creeps into our psyches when we’re out and about in our gigantic, adventure playground here…like mama bears with cubs. The detail and idiosyncrasies Roberts includes indicating Alaskan nuances showed me she must have spent some time here. I didn’t do the eyeroll as I do with authors who use Alaska as a setting and didn’t take time to dig a little deeper into the unique culture of the state. I’m not a fan of the tormented cop hero because it’s been done to death, but Roberts pulled it off with Nate and made him likeable in a way I overlooked that worn out character cliché. I like the slow burns and Roberts does this well.
Finished Reading: NORTHERN LIGHTS by Nora Roberts. Borrowed Kindle Edition from Public Library. It is 670 pages, but I read it pretty quickly for me. It wasn’t that I had the time, as I took the time to read it. I haven’t read a Nora Robert’s novel in a really longtime. This was one fit my Alaskan Book craving perfectly: Lunacy, Alaska has a new sheriff in town. There is also a killer on the loose that leaves a lot of mystery. Plus two lonely souls looking for love & redemption.
I think this book is my all-time favorite Nora Roberts, and that’s saying something. The romance and mystery in Alaska, a compelling hero, and a kick-butt heroine combine to make this SUCH A WONDERFUL READ.
Unusual characters in a moody setting. Not a comfortable book at times and that’s its value.
Great Suspense!
Always live Nora Roberts books. Started reading them many years ago. My husband also reads all her books
I love all of the books I have read by Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts always delivers great stories
Love this one because it’s where I want to be. I can’t be there in person and this book takes me there. Nora Roberts describes elegantly and beautifully and she takes there…under the Northern Lights.
One of my favorites!!!!!!!
I’ve been reading Nora Roberts since I was in High school, and no I’m not telling you how many years, but I’ve read a few of her books. (basically all of them).
Any way this one has a strong heroine and a hero that is a little broken.
Really like how it gives you the feel of what living in Alaska would be like, not for me!
There’s adventure, romance and a mystery to solve and along the way two people might find happiness. (spoiler alert, they might not).
Any way as usual an all around good read.
I learned a lot about Alaska. The characters were very different. The murderer was unexpected. I had thought from some previous scenes it was another person connected to Meg.
Loved this book. I would recommend it to those who like action and intrigue with their romance., which was an addition to Nate’s journey to becoming himself again.
I’ve loved Nora Roberts for years…this is one of her best.
Fall in love with Alaska and the characters….
