Mark Greaney’s Gray Man series will thoroughly satisfy any cravings for action, tradecraft, smart plotting and — my personal favorite — assassins. They’re extremely well-written, and read like The Day of the Jackal on steroids.
All the Gray Mam books are highly enjoyable! Great story’s that have a certain veracity that a lot of this type of books lack.
Just wow! If you like fast-paced action bordering on unbelievable, you will not be able to put the book down!
The main character in The Gray Man, Court Gentry, is badder than James Bond, Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, and Wolverine all rolled up into one. The action moves at a superhuman rate. You will certainly not be bored.
The question is … is it even close to realistic? The answer is no, In fact, it is about as unrealistic as any book can be. I’ve never read a book in this genre that has more action combined with a hero who takes that kind of punishment and then walks away like Deadpool.
I really did like the book and I will probably read the series but it is more of a superhero book than a political thriller based in any kind of reality.
If super-fast-paced wild and violent thrillers are your things, this one is a must!
I will admit I wrestled a bit with the star rating, but I did thoroughly enjoy the read. So, I will have to go with 4 stars. However, I can see why some reviewers think it is over the top and give it lower star ratings. And, if superhero stories are your thing, you will probably give it a solid 5 stars.
Jason Bourne on steroids! My God what an adrenaline ride!
My oh my oh my. 7 stars. First time I ever gave a 7 star rating. Awesome book
I am loving the Gray Man. Reading every one i can get my hands on.
Hard to believe I’ve been missing this series all these years. The good news is that now I have a nice long series to binge. I love Court Gentry and the way Greaney brings him to life. Strongly recommend this series!
I could not put it down for very long.
A rollicking good adventure with the “Gray Man” at its center. A page turning, let’s see what happens next book with an inspirational hero disguised as a bad guy. Worth reading and I have read the sequels.
Very disappointed in this book. I found that it contained too much tell and not enough show. The identity of – The Gray Man – was common knowledge so why even bring that into the story as a key item. The story and storyline might be better served if they were “adjusted.”
I don’t want to be too critical because I am not a published writer, but by the same token I have been a reader of action and thriller stories for a long time. This story and the manner in which it is written did not convey the story and characters in the best manner.
So over the top unrealistic. Not at all like the Jack Ryan character. Simplistic and glorified mayhem with no redeeming attributes
Can’t remember if I commented here or not. Read this based on Lee Child endorsement. Not too bad a premise, “morally good” assassin hunted by pretty much every intelligence agency/mob outfit in the world. Basic shoot ’em up very few pages. In fact, there’s several books in the series. They’re ok in theory.
The problem is language. Like a child who discovers a “four letter word” and thinks it’s usage makes them sound grown up, the author goes to town! I tried the first three, hoping he would level out. I couldn’t finish. Vulgarity is not art nor literature. It is smut.
Fire your editor and buy a thesaurus.
Really fun book , page turner. Filled with revenge!
Awesome-well worth reading this series!!
Boy am I tired. I finished this book by pulling an all nighter. It has been a very long time since I could not put a book down because I was so drawn to a character or a plot. This book brings together the theme of palace intrigue to the current day, tying the government and intelligence gathering with the dependency of one country on another. Mr. Greaney has written a book that matches Lee Child’s wonderful books with his theme and very well developed characters. Now I am afraid I will just have to purchase the entire series to see if he has been as successful with all of the other books. Having worked for the Federal government for more than 40 years, this plot definitely rings almost true and is very plausible. For those who think they have seen this plot before, they may have if they have been on the inside of government or in the military. It is inevitable that it would ring true or possible in a book or movie. That is what fiction is about. To take something and make it believable and/or entertaining. Keep writing and many will follow.
My Ludlum replacement
Very exciting novel with fast paced action. I had a hard time putting it down. If you like suspense and thrillers this is for you.
This book is the introduction to the Gray Man series and had me spellbound and unable to put it down until I had finished it. In some ways similar to the Jack Reacher stories, but with a twist similar to the Dexter series on cable. The Gray Man is an assassin trained by the CIA, but now on the run from them while making a living from his craft. Well edited and full of unexpected plot twists although the basic story is not complex. Later books in this series have more complicated plots and more development of the main protagonist and the people he interacts with.
