The #1 national bestseller for Stephen King’s rabid fans, Cujo “hits the jugular” (The New York Times) with the story of a friendly Saint Bernard that is bitten by a sick bat. Get ready to meet the most hideous menace ever to savage the flesh and devour the mind. Outside a peaceful town in central Maine, a monster is waiting. Cujo is a two-hundred-pound Saint Bernard, the best friend Brett … the best friend Brett Camber has ever had. One day, Cujo chases a rabbit into a cave inhabited by sick bats and emerges as something new altogether.
Meanwhile, Vic and Donna Trenton, and their young son Tad, move to Maine. They are seeking peace and quiet, but life in this small town is not what it seems. As Tad tries to fend off the terror that comes to him at night from his bedroom closet, and as Vic and Donna face their own nightmare of a marriage on the rocks, there is no way they can know that a monster, infinitely sinister, waits in the daylight.
What happens to Cujo, how he becomes a horrifying vortex inescapably drawing in all the people around him, makes for one of the most heart-stopping novels Stephen King has ever written. “A genuine page-turner that grabs you and holds you and won’t let go” (Chattanooga Times), Cujo will forever change how you view man’s best friend.

His looks scared the Daylights out of me. The first time I ever Read it, it set my nerves on edge. Having a friend with the Saint Bernard. Also made me realize how serious it could be if a dog in this size did go on a killing binge
my most favorite of all time author
Another classic scary King novel.
Suspense and action jump off each page. So well written that I felt every emotion.
SUSPENSE SUSPENCE SUSPENCE! HEART POUNDING AND THRILLING!
Loved this book.
Its Stephen King. Why say more?
THIS BOOK SCARED MY HUSBAND, FOR WHATEVER REASON HE IS AFRAID OF DOGS. I LOVE THE WAY THE TENSION BUILDS IN THIS BOOK.
I read it when it first came out and it is still what I consider a scary book.
Well, well, what do you know?? Another Stephen King shocker with tons of reviews, with most of the ones I’ve read being RAVE REVIEWS by people who loved the book! I’m not surprised! Are you? To me, this book shows a strength for Stephen King in a horror sub genre he doesn’t write in often enough. I love his supernatural chillers but with Cujo, King builds a psychological horror tale around a nightmare that could happen to any one of us at any time! Who, since reading this book, hasn’t imagined the horror of being trapped in a broken down car that is suddenly incapable of taking you anywhere, with it being your ONLY protection from a huge, slimy, blood-soaked dog who might have once been friendly, but has, by now, become nothing more than a bloodthirsty killer?? Most of us have. More proof of this book’s power to terrify is that tons of people who have imagined such a horrifying scenario have found themselves trembling with dread while forming such a bloodcurdling mental picture in their heads! And part of the story’s shocking power lies in King’s smart, instinctive decision to use suspense in his telling of the story. By building up suspense, more and more and more, King keeps us on edge, wondering what will happen next, agonizing over the potential fate of these characters, especially the two protagonists who find themselves fighting for their lives against the ultimate terror with only a car that can no longer go anywhere as their fragile refuge from certain death! This is absolutely among the most horrifying of many Stephen King books I have read! I not only recommend it but, unlike many of these other reviewers, I also highly recommend the movie!
Pretty good book, very detailed when describing the dog biting into people.
Every chapter with the husband and his marketing for cereal really hurts the book though as these parts are very boring.
This is the story of Cujo – a friendly, 200 pound Saint Bernard that was bitten by a rabid bat. Cujo had not received any shots against rabies, so he immediately gets sick. He is owned by a young boy, named Brett, who does not know Cujo is sick before leaving on a vacation with his mom.
Another family – the Trentons – are in the same town. They have met Cujo when Brett’s dad has worked on their car in his garage. Mrs. Trenton’s car starts to give her trouble while her husband is away, and she and her young son go to have it fixed and come face to face with a now rabid Cujo.
This book was not that great. I am a big Stephen King fan, but this one was just a bit….boring. It had intense sections – yes. But the in between banter between the characters seemed all over the place. It was hard to hold my interest.
This one was just….eh. I don’t recommend.
This was a good story but as Stephen King tends to be it was a bit wordy in places.
Too violent for an animal lover such as I. But has its moments
A King classic.
