Virgil Flowers hunts a killer responsible for a strange string of murders in this thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford. On a hot, humid summer night in Minnesota, Virgil Flowers gets a call from Lucas Davenport. A body has been found near a veterans’ memorial in Stillwater with two shots to the head and a lemon in his mouth—exactly like the body they found two weeks ago. they found two weeks ago.
Working the murders, Flowers becomes convinced that someone is keeping a list—with many more names on it. And when he discovers what connects them all, he’s almost sorry. Because if it’s true, then this whole thing leads down a lot more trails than he thought it did—and every one of them is booby-trapped.

an oldie but a goodie
Virgil Flowers is an interesting character. I like all of this writers books.
Fun read with a character you can follow into another story.
Sanford is the best
Too short.
A good Virgil Flowers book
Typical Sanford.
Pretty standard John Sandford, Virgil Flowers stuff. No originality. OK for a mindless beach read…
Sandford is about my favorite author, and I enjoy Virgil Flowers antics.
GREAT AUTHORS write great books. I have read almost every book he has written and have been disappointed yet. I look forward to his next great book
Virgil Flowers is an extremely interesting character!!! I’ve read all of John Sandford’s books and they are always incredible!!! But Virgil is “one of a kind” !!!
Absolutely love Virgil Flowers and all his fellow law enforcers. One thing you know going in to one of these books, is that the plot will contain a few surprises, you’ll laugh yourself silly at some of the dialogue, and you will thoroughly enjoy every single moment of all of it.
I have read most of Sandford’s books and they are all very good. However, I particularly like the Virgil Flower’s character. It is very hard to rate any of the Flower’s books because they are all outstanding. I have spent a lot of time in Minnesota, particularly northern Minnesota, and one of the fun things for me is trying to find a place where Sandford is incorrect on his geography and description of the many towns his characters visit. He is always spot on and believe that he has visited everyone of them or has a very good research staff. This is just a little thing for me that adds to the enjoyment of the story being told. If you read for entertainment, you will find that Sandford is a very entertaining writer. I would recommend all his books, whether it be the entire Prey series or the Virgil Flowers books.
Typical John Sanford great read
Excellent Virgil flowers escapade.
Great dialogue and one of Stanford’s Virgil Flowers books. A favorite of mine.
I said in my review of Dark Of The Moon that I hesitated to start a new series because I didn’t know if I would ‘connect’ with the character. I also said I liked that book and would read more.
This second entry in the series is the equal of the first if not a tad better. Flowers is a little more fleshed out here, as he should be in a second book, a trait I hope Sandford continues. If his Lucas Davenport series is any indicator, he will.
This is a serial killer story with the standard ‘signature’ the killer leaves behind in these stories, but the plot takes a turn partway through that was totally unexpected and made this book a fresh take on this type of story.
Good job, Mr. Sandford.
I look forward to reading the next in the series.
