Amazing world-building.
Every time I read anything in this world, I have the worst book hangover when it’s over! This is an epic story, worthy of getting lost in.
Character development, much like the world building is extremely advanced.
Hints and peeks into the past—which is our present, as it happens—are completely plausible and add a whole other level of entertainment to the reading experience.
Manages to pack in real feels even though the romance is really just a side effect of this epic story.
Very much looking forward to seeing all I can of this world and plan to re-read it in its entirety. A much-needed escape.

This entire series is absolutely incredible! ALL the stars.
At the time of this review, it’s free to own on all major retailers, so what are you waiting for?!?!
I absolutely ADORE this book! I’ve been reading a lot of first books by different authors trying to find a series I really like. This is it! Action packed, awe inspiring twists and turns that leave you putting off sleep just to see what happens to the characters next. My hat’s off to you for such a great job writing this book. Thank you.
I stepped back into my fantasy genre reading mode to read Born to Magic: Tales of Nevaeh Volume 1 by David Wind and am I glad I did! Great tale and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Synopsis (from the author): Long ago, the violence and radiation of terrorist wars killed America. Descendants of the survivors now dwell in a world of ritual and magic, where ten dominions struggle for supremacy and a dark, formidable power has emerged.
Areenna, the only daughter of the King of Freemorn, is barely eighteen, yet her psychic ability is strong. She is called to The Island and learns that the fate of her world is in her hands. She must undertake a perilous journey to save Nevaeh from malicious destruction. But she will not travel alone.
Mikaal, the son of the High King of Nevaeh, has just as much at stake as Areenna. The quest takes them through haunted wastelands filled with mutants while a vile and evil force will do everything in its power to stop them—for it wants Nevaeh as its own.
What I liked: I thought the premise of the book was great. The idea of a space traveler returning to earth to find a society without technology, and where the women wield magic was so cool to me. Add to it the intrigue of the evil influences in the world trying to conquer the world, the hint of romance that flows throughout the book, and the action sequences, and you have a great read. I also liked the way words had evolved in the story. For instance, instead of rabbits, there were rabts. Interesting way to make familiar things new!
What I didn’t like: I thought I little more background on the evil force would have been nice, but it certainly didn’t detract from the story. Other than that, no complaints from me!
Overall impression: Born to Magic held my attention from the beginning. A nice blend of action, fantasy, intrigue, and a hint of romance made this a great read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read fantasy!
My rating: 5 Stars
I love our hero and heroine. Their relationship is believable and sweet. The world building is fantastic and the story is unique.
Too far fetched!
Born to Magic ( Tales of Nevaeh Volume 1)
by David Wind is a fantasy/ Sci-fi, paranormal, apocalyptic novel. The world he builds is our earth in the future where magic rules instead of technology. Characters are complex and interesting. The plot is full of danger and adventure as forces for good battle evil. This book sets the stage for a prequel and two other books in the series. This was a good read.
A Post -Apocalyptic book that did not depress me! Finished book with a good feeling. Want to read the next book in the series! Lots of action, great characters, interesting creatures, in an amazing landscape, with romances between several key characters – Happily ever after type of ending.
Basically – I loved the book!
This review is for the audio book.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get the next book to find out what happens. I loved the way everything had a slightly different twist on what they were meant to be crawlers (I think that is right) instead of horses etc a great imagination and its a brilliant story teller that helps you imagine what is described. This book has both.
This is the journey of Areenna and Mikaal as they learn how to trust and use the magic powers they have been blessed with. For Areenna this is easy as her mother was a powerful magician and has started training her at an early age but she struggles with combat, mainly the use of her sword. Mikaal under his fathers training is a masterful swords man but as no man has ever been able to use magic he is struggling to harness his powers. Together they must make an unstoppable team, as the prophecy is they are the only ones with enough skill to stop the Dark ones once and for all and save Neveah.
Liked the narrator as she had a very calm and soothing voice.
Two likeable characters headline this fantasy novel combatting good against evil. Young Areenna knows she has magical abilities but needs training. What no one expects is that Prince Mikaal hides his own burgeoning powers. Only the females on this planet have magic. A man possessing these qualities would be viewed as an abomination. Their parents recognize the pair’s destiny and set them on a course that will change everyone’s lives forever. They’re the only ones who can defeat the evil approaching from across the sea, but can they survive their training? First they must travel to the Island, where either they’ll become stronger together or they’ll perish in failure. Can they find the strength to succeed? This action-packed story has excellent world-building, a memorable cast, and a saga you won’t want to end. Fortunately, the story continues in a sequel. If you’re a fan of fantasy mingled with a touch of scifi, this is the book for you.
