Echoing the novels of Mary Alice Monroe, Allie Larkin, and Holly Robinson, this charming debut novel tells the unforgettable story of a rescue dog that helps a struggling young outsider make peace with the past.
Addie Andrews is living a life interrupted. Tragedy sent her fleeing from Chicago to the shelter of an unexpected inheritance—her beloved aunt’s somewhat dilapidated home in Eunice, … Eunice, Arkansas, population very tiny. There she reconnects with some of her most cherished childhood memories. If only they didn’t make her feel so much!
People say nothing happens in small towns, but Addie quickly learns better. She’s got an elderly next door neighbor who perplexingly dances outside in his underwear, a house needing more work than she has money, a best friend whose son uncannily predicts the weather, and a local drug dealer holding a massive grudge against her.
Most surprising of all, she’s got a dog. But not any dog, but a bedraggled puppy she discovered abandoned, lost, and in desperate need of love. Kind of like Addie herself. She’d come to Eunice hoping to hide from the world, but soon she discovers that perhaps she’s finding the way back—to living, laughing, and loving once more.

Excellent!!!
great for humanitarians, dog lovers and romantics.
Don’t waste your money. Full of inconsistencies. Shallow.
love all the books by this author.
I only read part of this book. It was not written well. It was very predictable so I quit after 3 chapters.
Very well written, believable characters, touching, yet uplifting.
I liked this book so much I wanted to read other books by this author. Very good.
I didn’t finish it, didn’t like the direction it went.
I loved this book. It was a great read and I enjoyed every minute of the time spent with the characters. It was so much fun to spend time while the main character figures her life out. There were times that made me think of my own life and what I really wanted it to be. This is a really great book to spend time with. I loved the relationship between Adelaide and Jasper and her rescue dog. It warmed my heart.
Still reading it.
Very nice book and it flows well. The only disappointment is that not to far into the story it concentrates more on the young woman who owns the dog than on the dog. Personally I would have preferred to read more about the dog.
I was disappointed to find that this book was about animal abuse and the usual mundane man/woman interest. I was looking for a charming story about a dog. The title was very misleading.
Loved it read it twice in one day
Life always seems better for other people, better homes, jobs, lovers and just less messy.
So when Addie moves from Chicago to Eunice, a very tiny place in the south, she figures small town, small problems.
Addie is introduced to the southern style of sweet tea, friendship, and even rescues an abused dog. Felix, her rescue, is the reason she meets Doc, the vet, Jasper, lawyer and farmer, and Wanda, new best friend.
Wanda gets her out and into the community as Addie fixes up the house she inherited. Addie isn’t quite sure about staying or heading back up north. Her fiancee, Jonah, is dead, and she sold their business…..so meeting and sparring with Jasper is new and exciting
Small towns have secrets and Addie is determined to take on Redd, an angry man with a thing about Jasper and dogs. You also have a retired lawyer in his undies playing outside just across the street, who may or may not be eccentric or just unhinged. Oh, and there’s Harper, girl lawyer friend of Jasper, who seems to dislike Addie….no wonder Addie can’t make up her mind about staying.
It ends well but I would have liked a less abrupt ending……Jasper’s relationship with his Dad is still open ended and Harper is someone who might not give up……hmmm…..a second book on these people plus Wanda would be good.
