I feel like this series wrapped up nicely. I’m so glad there is a spin-off though for some characters I wanted more of. There were some twists that surprised me in this one and some I called. I was also very happy about Sonya!!
** spoiler alert ** Reread 4/2021: Still happy with how all of this wrapped up, knowing that Adrian and Sydney will get more love in Bloodlines. Rose, Adrian and Dimitri continue to torture each other but not just admitting how they feel, for most of the book. I was surprised again by the murderer, because APPARENTLY I FORGOT.
Reread : Still loved it, still feel just awful for Adrian- I’m glad he gets to feature in Bloodlines, because he wasn’t even really a love triangle here. Rose treated him so crappy – and I get her trying to rebound, but ugggggghhh.
Such a good ending to a great series. I wish there was more, because they were so good and I love the characters, but also, I like that it ended well without dragging on past the interesting stuff. There were plenty of twist and turns, the murderer was not who I expected, but it turned out almost exactly like I hoped. I wish Adrian hadn’t had to have his heart broken – Rose’s insistence that she needs to move on and Adrian makes her happy was a little too quick for me, like seriously this wouldn’t have happened if you’d given Dimitri time to adjust and heal. Like if you still love him, even if you think it’ll never happen, why not give yourself some time? Adrian was too good to be a rebound guy But I get why it was written that way.
I actually picked this series up again (didn’t get into it the first time – years ago) after watching the movie, and I have no idea why I didn’t get into it before, it’s so so good and I ended up buying the last one instead of borrowing it from the library, because I couldn’t wait until Monday to find out what happened to Rose and Dimitri.
I thought their world was interesting and well-defined – no weird, shocking rules that served as a plot twist, everything seemed like it fit and made sense with what you’d seen so far, at least to me. Like yeah, it was surprising for Rose that they could heal Dimitri but it wasn’t like spirit, healing, and charmed objects hasn’t all been building up to that.
I was super happy with the Sonya Karp arc as well, it ended even better than I’d hoped.
Rose is found guilty of murdering the Moroi queen. Of course, she hadn’t done it, but evidence and truth seem to be of no consequence when everyone believes that you’re guilty.
With the help of her father, the two men she loves and allies she’d made, she escapes to find a way to clear her name instead of being executed for a murder she didn’t commit.
Lissa stalls for time by doing the trials to become queen (along with others from the royal houses). It causes enough drama to keep attention away from Rose and what she’s up to.
Rose has to rely on friends and enemies alike to solve the mystery of who’d framed her for the last queen’s murder, find a way to make Lissa legally queen and finally be free.
I like Adrian, but I’ve always been firmly on team Dimitri – and this book shows once again why he is so awesome.
The way the story evolves, the characters’ choices, the sacrifices Rose is willing to make, leaves one heady and wanting to know what happens next. And the final twist… Wow!
A great end to the series.
Wouldn’t have found these very good books if it weren’t for a friend. Very enjoyable to read
I don’t know what happened between the first time I read this book and this time but the first time I rated it 5 stars and now I can’t get over the fact that Rose played Adrian and acted like a immature selfish girl. It really bugged me this time that one minute she would go on about loving Adrian and the next she would be like Dimitri is the love of my life. One minute she was kissing Adrian and the next she was having sex with Dimitri. It ticked me off. The plot was good but the Adrian, Dimitri thing bugged me so much that I had a hard time really enjoying it.
**I try not to spoil the book**
The amount of feelings you will go through in this book is a lot. A lot goes down in the book. It is the last one in the Vampire Academy series. Dimitri is still dealing with becoming a Dhampir again. Rose is locked up for the murder of Queen Tatiana and she didn’t even do it. Rose wants to prove her innocence but the council is all over the place. A breakout is staged and Rose flees from Court with Dimitri, and later meets up with Sydney. From there on they travel cross country to find Lissa’s unknown sibling. They find said person and work as hard as they can to get back to Court. If you want to know the rest of the story you should really read this series. Overall this was an amazing series. I will be picking up the Bloodline series soon.
