Discover #1 New York Times-bestselling Patrick Rothfuss’ epic fantasy series, The Kingkiller Chronicle. “I just love the world of Patrick Rothfuss.” —Lin-Manuel Miranda • “He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.” —George R. R. Martin • “Rothfuss has real talent.” —Terry Brooks OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD! DAY ONE: THE NAME OF THE WIND My name is Kvothe. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping … WIND
My name is Kvothe.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
You may have heard of me.
So begins a tale unequaled in fantasy literature—the story of a hero told in his own voice. It is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man’s search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

We’re still waiting for book # 3. PAT, YOUR KILLING US.
Exceptionally well written. Beautiful.
This is just simply some of the best writing I have ever read.
best fantasy book in years
This is one of my all time favorite books/series. I’ve read this book twice and have all the books in the series, still waiting for the final novel. The characters are likeable, tragic, and flawed, in the way of all people. The story line pulls the reader along; I’ve spent sleepless nights reading “just one more page”.
Patrick Rothfuss is the best fantasist writing today, hands down. His books do not feel or read like your typical formulaic genre offerings. Finally, someone who can make high fantasy about both big ideas and small everyday people without losing hold of character and emotion along the way. But my highest praise is what Rothfuss DOESN’T do (yeah, I’m calling you and that crutch of yours out George RR Marten) and that’s rely on a continuing escalation of horrific violence and depravity to wring emotion from his audience. A great cook doesn’t need to drown things in butter or sugar to make them tasty and neither does a great writer need to beat the carcass of violence to make a great story. Like salt, every element that drives a story is here and a sprinkle looms large with Rothfuss’ capable hand. Don’t miss what truly great writing can create.
Way over rated. Pretentious.
This was a book I could not put down, even as my eyes forced themselves shut for sleep. I finished this in three days. Not bragging, just saying it’s that good.
Wonderful! Extremely creative. Rothfuss creates an entire world that I want to delve into.
Really a good book. Wish the author would turn out book 3 soon. He writes so slowly….
Rothfus is an artist with his story telling. The wait for the third book in the series is just killing a great story.
Love this series (similar to works by Joe Abercrombie and Scott Lynch). I cannot wait for the new book in the series to come out.
Throughly enjoyed this book! So glad I discovered it .
great writting!
My favorite fantasy title. Fantastic writing and a spectacularly detailed main character. This book is Harry Potter written for an older audience.
His book hooked me from the first paragraph, and I’m still on that hook after two more books. Keep writing, Patrick Rothfuss!
