Have them all. Some are more favored than others, but Lord John is a rare gem.
If you love Outlander, you will love Lord John series. Cant put it down!!
Wonderful stories!
Another Diana Gabaldon series that I have read all of them. Since Lord John is a character in the Outlander series this series is a spin off and very interesting. In itself it helps to fill out the Outlander series by expanding on Lord John’s life and experiences.
I have read three of the titles and recommend this to get all four at once. If you are an Outlander fan, these are good to fill in details and events outside the main story.
Love this character
I’ve real all the Lord John books and enjoyed all of them. A little slower paced than Outlander series but still a good read.
Excellent writing that holds you. Unique settings and situation.
The book fits into the other series of books “Cross-stitch” as at was originally called, now changed to the “Outlander”, that tells of time travel and a couple he from the past, she from the future journey through life together. The Lord John series of books do not have to be read but give the main character Lord John more depth for when he appears in the other series, whilst also being a robust character in his own right.
Like all of Gabledon’s books, well written ,believable characters, good storylines. She has a way with history and characters that fit into it, rather than history rewritten to fit the characters.
The author always has great characters who allow you to understand how people were living during those times. The stories are a view into Lord John’s family life and allow you to further understand some of the back-history to references made in the Outlander series.
These are shorter stories so, after reading the Outlander books, I was startled when the story was over so soon and left wanting more.
Diana knows how to write so you’re left in anticipation of the next book.
Great addition to the Outlander Series.
Great to learn more about Lord John.
Not up to the other books in the Outlander series, but gave information on one of the major characters.
At first I didn’t like Lord John but, as his character developed and became more “real”, I find that I like him a lot. He’s a good man and a good friend.
This author, Diana Gabaldon, (also author of “The Outlander” series) is a superbly gifted writer. Her characters are so detailed that they live and breathe. Her historical authenticity is amazing! I have read every word she’s written and have NEVER been disappointed! The “Lord John” series is not as well known as “The Outlander” series (TV series of the same name) and it has a different feel for a significant reason but it is no less amazing! The character of Lord John is the same in both series but these are separate adventures and there is much revelation of his past before he ever meets up with Jamie.
Fills in a lot of holes for dedicated Outlander fans. The Scottish Prisoner is a 5 star read.
If you are an Outlander fan, the Lord John books are an extension of those and give a lot of background about this character who is so important to the main books.
If you finished the Outlander series and still want more, this will fill the bill.
