Buried Secrets by Irene Hannon introduces her Men of Valor series. The McGregor boys each serve or served in an elite division of the military. Mac was a Navy Seal. Looking to dial back the danger in order to search for the woman of his dreams, he takes a job with the County near his hometown and ends up meeting Police Chief Lisa Grant.
Sparks fly the first time Mac walks onto Lisa’s crime scene. Unfortunately, he’s the detective County sent to aid Lisa’s small town as they investigate the human bones unearthed at a construction site in Lisa’s jurisdiction. While their attraction simmers, Mac and Lisa follow the clues – few as they are – and manage to ID the body. The identity takes them to a 24-year-old missing person case and three suspects who were questioned when the young co-ed first disappeared. The problem Mac and Lisa encounter is that, even though three people were interviewed, only ONE story was told. Will the story remain the same when they’ve been apart for 24 years? As the action heats up, so does the danger because someone does NOT want to lose the lifestyle they’ve worked for since this event.
Can Mac and Lisa uncover the clues to unmask a killer? Most of all, can they do it before they themselves are in the crosshairs?
If you’re a fan of Irene Hannon’s romantic suspense, you won’t be disappointed with her newest installment.
Irene Hannon is a consistent author, the kind you can count on to produce a book you’ll want to finish.
In “Buried Secrets,” construction for a new development unearths a human skeleton. The police arrive and begin the painstaking process of determining who the bones belong to and when they died. But that’s the easy part.
A uniquely warped antagonist stays ahead of the local and county police departments, cunningly tying up loose ends, depriving them of any solid evidence.
In the end, Chief Lisa Grant and “Mac” are more than a match for the protagonist…and perfect matches for each other.
Love Irene Hannon’s characters. Good clean writing.
A good, entertaining read…although a bit predictable, it did keep my interest…I appreciate the clean read, no language, no steamy scenes… : )
I always enjoy this authot
I love it. I like everything Irene Hannon writes.
Just one more of a string of great novels from a wonderful author. I truly enjoy the way she brings out a message for our savior in her books.
An action packed thriller with good characters, writing , and plot. A little heavy on the romance, but a good read.
I didn’t know what to expect when Buried Secrets, the first book of Irene Hannon’s new Men of Valor series, came in the mail. This is the first title I’ve read by this particular author. What I’ve discovered is a talented writer whom I would gladly read again.
The prologue of this novel was pretty telling and therefore yielded a two-fold effect on me. First, it was an exciting way to start the book and it gave me, the reader, an immediate glimpse of the personalities of those involved. The second, and maybe not quite as positive, is that it took some of the mystery out of the story by revealing how many people are involved in the incident and their motives for covering it up. Nonetheless, I was hooked!
We meet Police Chief Lisa Grant and County Detective Mac McGregor on a construction site where human remains were recently unearthed. Mac and Lisa don’t exactly get off on the right foot, but it doesn’t take them long to smooth things over. I admit to having been worried when their initial thoughts towards one another were so juvenile. However, Hannon quickly redirects her characters to more substantive thinking while maintaining the flirty banter you would expect from a romance novel. In time, I found myself enjoying Mac’s charm and persistent attempts to woo Lisa.
Author Irene Hannon is gifted at scripting a super villain! From start to finish one character from the conspiracy trio grew progressively more cunning and evil. As this character earnestly strives to bury the past, the novel’s suspense intensifies. This results in the last third of the book being a “don’t-stop-can’t-put-it-down” page turner. The suspenseful and dramatic ending clenched a 4/5 star rating.
