Love is just around the corner . . . Sweet, shy Mara Hanover is in love with her neighbor. For four years, she has secretly watched her dream man from afar. Handsome police detective Mitch Lawson is way out of her league. She’s a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and there’s no way a guy like Mitch would want anything to do with her. But when Mara has a leaky faucet that she can’t fix, it’s … faucet that she can’t fix, it’s Mitch who comes to her rescue.
Mitch has been eyeing his beautiful neighbor for a long time. He jumps at the chance to help her, and soon their formerly platonic relationship gets very hot and heavy. But when Mara gets a disturbing phone call from her cousin’s kids, she gets pulled back into the life she’s tried so hard to leave behind. Can the hot law man convince Mara to let go of her past-and build a future with him?

This is one of my go to books when I need a break from reality. I love Mitch Lawson – he’s such a terrific hero with more than a hint of alpha and a huge heart. The heroine is tough and sweet, while the kids in this are adorable. I reread this one often. 🙂
Great book – emotional, romantic with wonderful characters and HEA.

The Russian mob Grigori Lescheva should be Grigori Leschev.
Wikipedia – In Russia, most surnames change depending on the gender of the person. The last names in the list below are all in the male form. The feminine form is the same plus an “a” at the end for most surnames ending in “v” and “n”.
My favorite of the Dream Man series. It was a wonderful book. I enjoyed the main characters and how they reacted with each other. All the additional characters were amazing as well. I definitely recommend this book and this series.
Love all KA books. Yes this one was hot too. It is a must read.
Audiobook edit: This is a great book and the narrative wasn’t bad, except for the Jersey accent. They’re in Colorado, not a weird gangster movie.
As always, I devoured this book in nearly one sitting. A great read!
I loved it. it was so awesome & fun to read.
One of the best books I’ve read!
Good lord Mitch, “but what I want you to know is that I’d like you to come over but because you’re shy, you gotta walk that breezeway, sweetheart. I’m tellin’ you you’re welcome but I made the first move, you need to make the next one. You with me here?” He’s such a sweetheart. Mitch well I mean I know Mara’s shy but dang boy no need to be rude, “I hope I got a little window into Mara World and this gets through because it’s really effin’ important,” he growled, at least as angry as I was, maybe angrier. “I don’t want to taste your pizza, Mara. I don’t give that first eff about your pizza. Clue the eff in, sweetheart, before you wake up eighty-five years old and wonder where your life has gone.” Good lord but he does know how to get me excited, “you jump outta my truck again before I’ve come to a complete halt, swear to God, baby, I’ll turn you over me knee. You with me?” Oh yeah I’m with you. Good grief Mitch, “Jesus effin’ Christ, baby you can kiss.” He’s sweet on his girl, “I’ll go gentle, baby,” he whispered against my lips. “I promise. You’ll always be safe with me.” Mara is protective of Mitch just as much as he is her, “…you’re loud, rude, bossy, and you insult my…my…” I lost it for a second then said, “My Mitch who’s a nice guy, a good guy and you don’t know him enough to insult him.”
Mitch is surprisingly annoying yet he’s very sweet and attentive. Hell, He’s willing to help Mara is good but when he take care of TWO not-even-blood-related kids, spends like a lot of money and time, dude that’s awesome.
But there are some parts when I really want to slap him because he’s overbearing and constantly cutting Mara’s conversations. That’s not cool.
Mara on the other hand, she really needs to pull it together and stop denying Mitch. But the rest, I loved this book. Already purchased Mystery Man and Wild Man but I’m taking my time here.
So happy with how it turns out with Mara’s sick aunt and mum, thank God for Bill for opening his eyes and so freaking jealous with Mara’s life.
Dramatic!
Lots of drama to keep this story moving along at a fast clip! I loved Mara’s character arc from a insecure wallflower to a strong wife and mother.
Goodness gracious but this was one heck of a story!
Mitch is the epitome of a law man, dependable, honorable, loyal and true. He’s also irresistibly attractive, something that our lovely Mara can’t help but notice, even as she fights it every step of the way.
Mara is beautiful inside and out and sadly just can’t see that about herself, her rough childhood and past relationships not having done her any favours.
Billy and Billie are sweet as can be and I loved what they brought to the story even as I just wanted to wrap them up in blankets and feed them tacos and ice cream and hug them like crazy!
Mitch has his work cut out for him with Mara, but he knows it’ll be worth the effort. Mara honestly doesn’t understand what Mitch is doing or thinking, but can’t help but want to hold on to this for as long as she possibly can.
There’s drama, there’s trailer trash, there’s tension, there’s chemistry, there’s friendship, there’s love, and so much more!
This story will take you on an action packed and emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey and it is worth every heart wrenching second of it!
This was my first read by Kristen Ashley and what an adrenaline rush it was. This story had a larger than life, drool worthy, kick ass hero, two endearing, at risk kids, and a heroine who thought herself lacking, but had reserves of strength and love that were a comfort and shelter for the two kids and the kick ass hero. This was the 3rd book of the Dream Man series, but it can be read as a stand alone. That being said, I have already downloaded the other 3 books in the series and look forward to binge reading more of this wonderful storyteller’s work!
If you like sexy romance books with an alpha male and strong female characters then this series is for you.
So far this is my favorite in the series. Mitch has appeared in all the other books and finally we get to see him in a relationship. In this book Mitch once again shows his alpha protectiveness and proves he’s the great man we’ve been seeing glimpses of in the other books. When he finally gets a date with the neighbor across the hall he dives right into a serious relationship. He’s willing to wade into the deep water with her if she’ll only just let him.
Mara had a rough childhood that’s she’s worked hard to escape. She’s had her eye on the sexy detective across the hall for years. When she finally gets a shot at dating him her past catches back up with her and sends her life into a tailspin. If she could just get out of the scary thoughts in her head she might get the love and help she’s always wanted.
I love Kristen Ashley’s books. Billy and Billie were awesome.
KA’s fans will love this one. It wasn’t my favorite, solely due to the heroine’s attitude about herself. And her rating system got old very quickly!
I recently read Mystery Man and fell head over heels. I found Law Man at Barnes and Noble and thought it couldn’t be better than Mystery Man. I was so so wrong! Hot hot alpha police detective living on same floor in apartment complex! Holy Hotness! A must must read! Be aware of twists and turns! I had many OMFG moments!
One of my favorite authors and this is an awesome book!
This is one of my top three favorite Kristen Ashley books. I’ve given it as a gift to numerous people when I’m converting them to KA readers! Mara is a fabulous heroine, who isn’t necessarily for everyone, but her love-from-afar for Mitch Lawson is so relatable to a fellow pathologically shy girl.
Review Nice solid KA romance with hunky alpha cop this time and a sweet heroine that does grow a little as well as two functioning plot moppets that are an integral part of the story.
Another essence of Kristin Ashley with minimal chin lifting. I like KA, but this one fell a little short as the heroine was such a Charlie Brown. Her rating system was cute the first twenty times, but seriously got old. She’s a mere 2.5, Law Man is 10.5 ad nauseam. Plus points off for him waiting two years to make his move, and he doesn’t even make a move – her washer broke. You’re an alpha cop for crying out loud!
Best scene is when all the hunky alpha guys get together and go off and fight Ruskie bad guys. Fun scene that would be a cool scene in a movie as the testosterone oozes off the page.
Epilogue was incredibly sweet with a nice bromance moment that, sniffle, made me tear up.
