One of the best-loved novels of 2015 is now available in paperback “A tale of love against the odds.” –People Rachel Blum and Andy Landis are just eight-years-old when they meet one night in an ER waiting room. Born with a congenial heart defect, Rachel is a veteran of hospitals, and she’s intrigued by the boy who shows up alone with a broken arm. He tells her his name. She tells him a story. … his name. She tells him a story. After Andy’s taken back to a doctor and Rachel’s sent back to her bed, they think they’ll never see each other again.
Yet, over the next three decades, Andy and Rachel will meet again and again–linked by chance, history, and the memory of the first time they met, a night that changed both of their lives.
A sweeping, warmhearted, and intimate tale, Who Do You Love is an extraordinary novel about the passage of time, the way people change and change each other, and how the measure of a life is who you love.more
I have always loved Jennifer Weiner. I picked up Who Do You Love at Barnes and Noble with a gift card and promptly forgot that I bought it. My daughter borrowed it and upon return, she told me she really enjoyed it, so I put it next in my book lineup. Reading Jennifer Weiner is like relaxing in comfy clothes, really a treat to read. However, I don’t think I was prepared for how much I loved this story. Rachel and Andy meet in a hospital ER when Andy, a lonely boy of eight has broken his arm, and Rachel, a girl who has been sick throughout her childhood, befriends him. The story follows them as they connect and reconnect.
Sweet and warm, perfect if you are tired of books that aren’t quite getting it done.
Sometimes it takes a lifetime to get it right, or so it seems. The characters come in and out of each others life over decades. I would have like more at the end of where things went but this one seems open for a sequel maybe. It was an enjoyable read.
All of Jennifer Weiner’s work is just remarkable-I’m a big fan! To categorize her work as ‘chick lit’ is not even the tip of the iceberg with her. Jennifer’s work is so much deeper and profound, and her characters are fully flesh and blood human beings, with both good traits and bad.
It was a great read.
Jennifer Weiner never disappoints!
I couldn’t put this book down. I stayed up until after 2am one evening/morning and made myself stop and go to sleep. The next day at work I kept an eye on the clock until I could get home and start reading again. Jennifer Weiner is a wonderful author who never disappoints, but I think this may have been her finest work to date. (Until I read the next one!)
This is the story of two character – Rachel and Andy – who meet for the first time at the age of 8. The are from two different sides of the tracks – Rachel grew up in an affluent neighborhood with two parents that love her. Andy grows up in a rough Philadelphia neighborhood with a single mother who is trying to make ends meet. Over the course of 30 years, they will meet again and again – by chance, by want and by need.
This was a pretty good book. I have read a lot of Jennifer Weiner’s books and they are always good stories. The two main characters clearly love each other right from the beginning, but they keep breaking up and then finding themselves again and realizing they want to be together. Then the cycle happens again. We see how they change over the course of their lives, finding that things they thought were crucial when they were younger, aren’t so important as they age. The book also talks about several issues like race, sex, bullying, and cheating.
Overall – I thought the book was pretty good. It was a light little read. It has its flaws – some ways that they met and just fell back “into love” so easily every time they find each other. They kept breaking apart because they just couldn’t make it work even though it was clear they were soul mates. But otherwise, I think it is worth a read.
Very good book! Very well done! I was so glad the main characters ended up together and it was so real because there are circumstances and roadblocks along life’s journey!
Love the author!
And there are also such books of long train ride after a very tiring day. A delightful novel, pleasant to read and nothing more. So I give it two stars for having succeeded in his work and another star for the story and the last half star because I’m really in a good mood right now.
