When they meet as girls on … writer.
When they meet as girls on a beach in Nantucket, Maggie McIntyre and Emily Porter become fast friends—though Emily’s well-heeled mother would prefer that she associate with the upscale daughters of bankers and statesmen rather than the child of a local seamstress. But the two lively, imaginative girls nevertheless spend many golden summers together building castles in the sand, creating magical worlds of their own, and forging grand plans for their future.
Even as Emily falls for Maggie’s brother, Ben, and the young women’s paths diverge, the duo remain close friends. Then the unthinkable happens: Handsome, charismatic, charming, and incredibly sexy Wall Street trader Cameron Chadwick upends both their lives and disrupts their friendship.
Struggling with the tough choices they must make and the secrets they must keep, the two young women discover that the road to love and fulfillment is full of bumps and twists. And while true love may be rare, Maggie and Emily find that friendship is even rarer—and more valuable still.

The ubiquitous “beach read” and very entertaining.
Really love all the books set in Nantucket. I feel like I know the island without ever visiting!
If you had a friend, you grew up with, then you will appreciate this story. It may be a stretch in some parts, you will understand when you read it, I don’t want to spoil it for your readers. It is a good read, and a great way to while away an afternoon.
This was an easy read. A great book to kick back and read on a long summer day.
I loved the relationships in this book. It was an entertaining read and kept me interested.
I liked the book until the very end. There was too much between Emily and Ben to just have them fall into each other’s arms. I wish there had been more depth to their reunion.
Loved the friendship & loyalty in two sisters.
Nice light read, but predictable plot.
I enjoyed this book a lot, however, I felt like the difficult situation that arose was dismissed in a simple way so that the end could be wrapped up nicely.
Enjoyed the the description of the area, the characters were great and loved the twists.
A fun book but a little predictable
This is one of those books I shouldn’t have liked–the heroines are young for much of the book, and their bad choices are painful to watch. But … I loved it! I felt like I was right on Nantucket, enjoying the sea and sun. The characters were believable just because they made a series of bad choices. Maggie’s family is endearing, especially her step-father who makes all the difference in the world to her and her brother, Ben. And when these two finally got to their well-deserved happy endings, I balled through the whole scene. To me, it was THAT good.
Great beach read or coronavirus escape.
On of the best reads I’ve had in awhile
I enjoyed the characters – two girls from vastly different families form an unbreakable bond although they go their separate ways at some points.
Just a very nice read.
I loved the story. Of course, I love Nantucket Island as setting. Entertaining & not scary! Just what I needed in Quarantine! Looking forward to reading sequel.
Good beach read!
Read this to take my mind off the rain outside and transport myself back to a Nantucket summer and it did exactly that. Evocative, touching, sweet and heart breaking in equal measure, this has more depth than just a beach book, and the sort of compelling characters that will have you searching for more Nancy Thayer to read.
My of my how much did I love this book. The story was just so good. Two girlhood friends from different backgrounds and how they grow up to be so much alike in what they want. Everything you want in a good book, friendship, love, heartbreak and ultimately love. Settle yourself in a comfy spot, poor your favorite drink and just enjoy Maggie and Emily’s story.
