Excellent Story
Once again be prepared to bring a box of Kleenex with you for this read. I swear it’s the authors lot in life to make sure you use all your emotions with each one of her books, and this book is no exception.
As you read along you can watch all the emotions come to play. Between the lead characters, the side characters and everything in between. You will find yourself laughing one minute, holding your breathe the next minute, and even crying. There will even be a time or two when you feel like shaking the author and saying what were you thinking, why did you do that.
Until Next Time… Tabi
I loved this one. Alex doesn’t have very good parents. They are more concerned about money and how their peers view them than their children. So when Alex’s sister, Daphne, needs help for an addiction, he jumps in and does what he has to to get her help. Alex is a good guy. He’s from money but has seen how it has made his Dad and doesn’t want to be like him. Harley is Daphane’s counselor and also Alex’s neighbor. These two are interesting characters, who have layers. Harley is hiding a past. She is raising her brother, Phoenix, as her son because her mother is an addict that can’t raise him right. Harley is a great girl who isn’t used to opening herself up to other people. There is a connection between the two. Alex is sweet and patient. They both are keeping secret from each other and share half-truths. They both are doing what is best for their siblings so I hoped that when the truth comes out the could work with it and I was a little surprised when and how so of the truths came out. I really liked this and it’s one you should read.
Lies, Lies, and more Lies … when the truth comes out, lives change.
Little do Alex and Harley know…. they’re keeping the same secret and both are afraid to tell. Half truths, they call it. Ahhhh, but half truths are nothing but lies compounded with secrets. Nothing good can come out of that.
So it is with Alex and Harley. And poor Phoenix is caught in the middle, innocent collateral damage. Their lies almost made them a family, even if it was in name only, they had become family to each other. Now, as the half truth lies come to surface, everything is ended… gone. Just with the snap of a finger, life changes.
It will be a journey of deceit, pain and second-guessing. It certainly won’t be easy. Alex leaves San Diego to go back to Chicago. He has to get his act together and fight for change…. change in himself, change in a mother who never showed love, and change in a sister who leaned on her addictions. And after all that, Alex has to somehow make it back to San Diego. He has to face Harley and Phoenix again. He wants a happy ever after but Harley has to let go of her own fears and distrust for that to happen.
OBSERVATIONS:
… Imperfect people do imperfect things. It’s easy to understand why the half truths were needed in the first place. However, both Alex and Harley find out the hard way that putting everything on the line is costly.
… My talk to Harley: “Ummmm, Harley. It’s time you be honest here. You told Alex to leave and now you blame him? Tsk, Tsk. Oh, and don’t forget the big lie you’ve been holding too. Your lie was no different than Alex’s. Why being so self-righteous, Harley?”
… Lot of intimate talk or actually, intimate thoughts …. mind games
… The first several chapters lacked the emotional pull I like to feel when reading. Instead, it felt like I was being read to rather than being drawn into the storyline. However, later in the book I started feeling more pulled into the book.

This storyline felt pretty real. This was no simple meet cute, then conflict, followed with pink flowers romance. The characters were very human, with gray areas … inner and external demons to work through.
I enjoyed reading this.

This book was gifted to me by the author for a review. At first when I read the blurb I was a little skeptical; single mom, rehab? Not my usual type of book. Though I did like the cover, it is very pretty. I loved the story line and plot, it wasn’t angsty, and the decisions they all made did not make me want to scream in their faces because they were making stupid choices. This book was really good, it hinted a lot about lying and telling the truth. The pros and cons of it. I loved how there were time gaps that swept over the sad parts of the book and only left time for the good. Alex was such a sweetheart. His heart was so big, he welcomed two strangers into his life and wanted to care for them, he knew what he wanted. I love that about him. Harley was such a strong independent woman, I can’t believe what she went through. I have no clue how she managed it and got to where she is today. The epilogue was wonderful! The last few chapters were tying up lose ends which I love. All that children need are love, care, and attention. Such simple things. Yet so many parents fall short on. This is a HEA and I highly recommend to anyone how needs to take a time out and think about how blessed they are and what they have. Along with that miracles do happen.
An emotional rollercoaster of a story you can’t miss
How far would you go to protect someone you love? Alex and Harley’s story really makes you feel every emotion and think about choices to be made. The writing is superb with characters you want nothing but the best for. You keep reading needing to know if their half truths help or hinder relationships and life. You need to read this emotional rollercoaster of a story as my words do not do it justice. Make sure it’s on your list because it’s one of my favorite reads of 2020.
This was a good read. The subject Alex and Harley have to deal with regarding their respective family members is relatable.
Guy meets girl at rehab, wait what?! Yep that’s exactly the story with Half Truths by Rachael Brownell Alex and Harley meet as he is checking his sister into rehab and as their relationship begins to grow deeper it gets even more complicated. Both of them are desperately trying to become better people then their parents before them. I loved seeing their chemistry spark into something deeper and actually flew through the whole book in one morning.
Thank you to The Next Step PR for sending me a copy of this book.
